The club should be applauded.
The sooner we rid ourselves of scumbags like Ayoub and Moses the better.

I’m sick of the player crying in the sheds routine.
If leaving actually makes you that sad you need need to properly think through your decision beforehand.
You’ll spend more time crying about your career post retirement by taking the money too early in your career and not realising your potential as a footballer.

I've been thinking about this " crying in the sheds" thing.
Anyone really believe Don would be stupid enough to pull the offer the day of a huge game?
No? Me either, reckon it was pulled today.
Secondly for a guy who was supposedly soooo upset in the sheds after the game he looks pretty cheery doing the team song!

Agents are parasites. Absolute scourge on the game.

The club probably set a deadline well in advance and stuck to it.

Re: Cotric set to head to Bulldogs on three year deal worth $650,000 a season
Taking the extra money to go to the Bulldogs probably isn't the smartest idea, with their epic 1 win of the season so far. Feels eerily similar to all those players who take big money deals at the Titans, and are never heard from again.
The Raiders are a halfway decent shot at a premiership over the next few years, Cotric and/or his manager would appear to have thrown his part in that away to go play in the minors. If he cared that much, he'd walk into the office at the Raiders solo, blame the games on his manager, and offer to fire his manager if they put their original offer back on the table - and if were the Raiders I'd take that offer.
Unless you're 100% mercenary, or the offer to stay isn't realistic (and this one definitely was), you don't leave a premiership-contending side for the wooden spooners to-be.

Re: Cotric set to head to Bulldogs on three year deal worth $650,000 a season
Possibly going against the flow here....
every player is to some extent a mercenary, because every player is part of a free enterprise system where their labour is rewarded according to who will pay them.
If anyone could get an extra 450 thousand dollars for three years in a bit of a dump, compared to not getting it and being happy, well... that's close to 5 years of a median Australian salary. Just in extras. And you could end up with multiple fractures of the femur before ever getting a payday.
I couldn't condemn any player for taking the money. I'm pretty certain other players don't. We're asked "what of Shannon Boyd and his non-career at the Gold Coast?" I guess the answer is he's he's got a hold on a nice hinterland farm, a truckoad of cash for at least 3 years, and if he quits the game he's come off rather well thankyou.
Just remember, we support laundry. Players don't.

Re: Cotric set to head to Bulldogs on three year deal worth $650,000 a season
It's a good result.
Cotric is very replaceable. He made a choice not to be loyal to his club, and the club returned the favour.
Move on.

Dogs are paying overs and he’s taking it. I’ve got no problem with that. There’s definitely a career risk going to a struggling team but it’s a lucrative risk. Good luck to Nick.Lui_Bon wrote: ↑July 17, 2020, 11:38 pm Possibly going against the flow here....

I’m just not buying any of this “would have stayed for another $25k” garbage. That’s a managers PR stunt trying to divert attention from the fact that he’s only going for he money.

$25k is peanuts in Rugbrugh Leeg these days.
That conversation didn't take place between Nick and club.

That’s list gives me some comfort as there’s nobody critical to our success. The less we need to deal with grubs like Ayoub and Moses the better positioned we are to keep a solid squad together.

I was in a similar position about 8 years ago. One of our smaller competitors made an all out move to grow, and went on a recruitment blitz. They approached me and offered me a very significant pay rise, but also the opportunity to be a key member of their build. They won some significant tenders, and needed experience fast. So I went, but found out they had NFI. They were proper old school, and refused to listen to the “Outside know it alls” they would call us. I left 12 months later, got my old job back, and the rest is history.
8 years later I’m told they’re still struggling to deliver, and the culture it horrendous.
Feel free to call me RickyRicky StickStick if you like. I will also accept Super Fui, King Brad, Kid Dynamite, Chocolate-Thunda... or Brad.

Re: Cotric set to head to Bulldogs on three year deal worth $650,000 a season
It would not surprise me if Cotric's form fell when he's in Sydney with his extra curricular activities possibly taking precedence?
I am concerned that it hasn't been announced officially by the dogs.
If he ends up at the Roosters that would be a massive kick in the **** for the Raiders.
I don't believe for ONE SECOND that there were tears or it's over 25k.
It's would be the first of many 25k's.

Re: Cotric set to head to Bulldogs on three year deal worth $650,000 a season
Give him the extra $25k and watch every manager use this tactic for every Raiders contract negotiation.
Cotric has been offered a fair salary by the Raiders. He just has to decide whether he wants to stay with a team whose a chance of winning a grand final and who developed him from day dot or chase a few extra bucks at the worst team in the comp.
I think most players would be after a bigger paycheque than what Bulldogs are offering Cotric.

Just jumped over to the kennel and chookpen ugh I feel dirty
The kennel is getting antsy about no official announcement and have speculated that Cotric is nervous coming to a club that is in re-build phase. They hope it's not true noting that the place will explode if it's not done and dusted.
Nothing on the other forum about Cotric apart from 'how the hell did we let the Raiders win' comments

You'll probably find the Roosters speculation is based on history where every off contract star was reported to be going there.Mercury wrote: ↑July 18, 2020, 9:19 am Just jumped over to the kennel and chookpen ugh I feel dirty

Roosters are reportedly a fair bit under the cap. As suggested they have money from Cronk and Mitchell. The question is, how did they afford all of their stars and associated upgrades in the first place?

Cotric and Okunbor set to bolster Canterbury back line
As the Bulldogs splashed nearly $2m on Nick Cotric - to the chagrin of Canberra coach Ricky Stuart - a contrite Jayden Okunbor was welcomed back into the fold at Belmore.
"We tried everything to keep him,'' Stuart said. "Nick has played some centre before, but he's a winger in my team. Nick is a great young guy, but I don't think all the advice and information he's receiving is in his best interests.''

Dogs' offer $600,000 in 2021, $650,000 in 2022 and $670,000 in 2023 - huge money for a youngster yet to prove himself in a new position.
The Raiders $500,000 in 2021, $525,000 then $550,000 in 2023, before increasing the final two years of his deal - but as a winger, not a centre.
