Surely keeping Cotric is worth the extra 25k?
Especially when the alternative is Curtis Scott.

The bit about him crying in the sheds... that really makes me sad. It simply shouldn't happen this stuff. Pretty clear he doesn't really want to leave... and there's managers pressuring etc etc etc.
It is pretty clear, though, that the Raiders had a last and final offer and weren't willing to keep on playing the manager's games. He's one who has stung us before, of course.

There's no way in the entire universe that thus deal fell over due to a 25k dispute. That's madness and undoubtedly media dribble. 25k isn't even a speck of the salary cap.

If you're offered 500k and come back with "I'd stay for 525k" then I think you would sound like you're talking a giant bunch of bollocks.

Re: Cotric set to head to Bulldogs on three year deal worth $650,000 a season
If he wanted to stay, the 25k wouldn't have mattered. Sounds like someone's trying to lay the blame on the Raiders. At the end of the day hes only leaving cause the offer was 650k vs 500k. I doubt 525k moves the needle that much. Play with the Raiders and make some rep teams, and you'll probably get that anyway?
He'll probably be at the Roosters in 4 years now...

Poster on the Kennel is mentioning reason for the delay is that the Roosters have come in with an offer. Raiders have definitely pulled their offer but now he is tossing up the Roosters too.

I think the roosters has some credit. Morris brothers off contract at the end of the year. Cotric is also good friends with TedescoRaider47 wrote:Poster on the Kennel is mentioning reason for the delay is that the Roosters have come in with an offer. To be honest, I think players lose sight of the fact that managers are employed by them. Managers are their employees. They decide what happens. I've not much doubt that some managers somehow spin that around, and become controlling... driven by their commission. The best reform that the NRL could make is that player manager fees are flat, not percentages, beyond a certain salary level. Or it tapers to a flat level. If the managers don't like it... find another sport to destroy.

Re: Cotric set to head to Bulldogs on three year deal worth $650,000 a season
**** couldn't deal with Cotric at Roosters. That's a whole different scenario. There's gotta be more to it than the $25k increase. There's holding the line and then there is being stubborn.
Whether we should be paying him $525k in the first place is one thing but difference of 5% when the other offer is already $150k in front doesn't seem to be the final determination.

Re: Cotric set to head to Bulldogs on three year deal worth $650,000 a season
The problem is the managers get to these players at a very young age, also swarm their way into the player's family, sucking up to mum and dad.
The manger ends up knowing all their dirty secrets and knows how to use little tricks to make the player feel like the only person they can trust in the world is their manager.
They also know which players to target which way, Issac Moses doesnt pull the same BS with Hodgo as he did with Bateman, Ayoub doesnt play the same tricks with Rapana
There are very few managers who actually care about the player and not just the $$$

Quotes from Ricky Stuart in The Canberra Times article we've shared a couple of times...
"We did everything possible to keep Nick. It's disappointing and it gets to a point where you've got to make a decision going forward and that's why the offer was withdrawn. I just hope the advice and opinions he's been getting is going to be the right one for him because he's still very young in his career."

And people think we are in a crisis good grief you don't need to look any further than the Broncos to see what a real crisis looks like. They struggle to score a single point or make a line break, both currently duck eggs so far tonight.
Re: Cotric set to head to Bulldogs on three year deal worth $650,000 a season
I'd like to see agents abolished and players employed through an nrl player employment department, the clubs put offers on the table to the nrl dept and they collate etc for the player and allow them to make the decisions.greeneyed wrote:To be honest, I think players lose sight of the fact that managers are employed by them. Sponsors could come forward for 3rd party deals etc and all on the books.

I agree on total crisis. But I think the lads here on the forum are expecting a top 4 finish or a minor prem. Add in to that a bit of game day courage and I can see how the boys can get their backs up.GMGT wrote: ↑July 17, 2020, 9:16 pmAnd people think we are in a crisis good grief you don't need to look any further than the Broncos to see what a real crisis looks like. When your expectations are high the possibility of finishing 5th or lower is not appealing.

Hi Peter if you are reading this!
I actually feel for players like Cotric, Bateman, Milford etc. They develop this positive relationships with the coach and the club, Bateman said multiple times he thought of Ricky as a father figure.
Then your manager comes along and says they are just playing you, cheating you of money etc.
You would have to be a pretty bright guy to not feel absolutely lost and confused
