Canberra Raiders give Sebastian Kris extended sick leave

Canberra Raiders centre Sebastian Kris is on extended sick leave and has been absent for the entire pre-season. CEO Don Furner said they weren't currently looking to bring anyone in from outside the club as cover following Leilua's departure. He said Kris hadn't trained yet this pre-season.

"He's just on extended sick leave. We've given him time off," Furner said.

Given this is clearly a health issue, and there is no detail beyond that single line statement, please be sensitive and avoid speculating.

Depth in the outside backs really being tested now. Need a couple of these young guys coming through the ranks to measure up. Hopefully we see Seb Kris back soon.

Wish the bloke all the best.

Club wise it’s unfortunate timing because having him there on (presumably) min wage helps bolster our outside back depth. The Scott case hanging over our heads unfortunately forces wingers into the centres if that goes awry.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.

Wish him all the best, his health, in every sense of that word is most important.
I am probably his biggest supporter, i really think this guy has the talent and ability to have a long NRL career. Not a superstar, almost certainly not a rep player but i think he could play 100-150 games and bounce around and earn a good living

So hopefully he comes through this and gets himself back into it. But if not, so what. He's a young fella with the world ahead of him and i hope he's able to tackle it with full health.

Love me some Seb Kris. Wish him all the best. A good shot for some of our young outside backs to step up here though. Hope they’re chomping at the bit.

One of the reasons I love this club so much is how we put player welfare first.

I have no idea why seb is on sick leave but I am confident the club will look after him as a young man first and a long way 2nd as a footballer.

Hugs for seb

I have faith in Oldfield being able to step in. Worst case scenario:

FB - CNK
W - Oldfield
W - Simonsson
C - Cotric
C - Croker
⅝ - Wighton
½ -Williams, G or S.

Reckon all of us has confidence in Oldy as a very capable fill in. Seb Kris in that category too. After that its anybody's guess.

Yeah in that scenario injuries are a big concern. Starting with 2 players already out.
Best of luck to Kris with his recovery.

This time last year we weren't sure about Simmo and CNK, we will be fine, Stick will have it under control.

Looks like Oldfield and HSS are the depth, if we get lucky with injuries we will be right, and hopefully Scott is free to play also. A few injuries and it could get a bit hairy tho

I'm guessing Matt Timoko and Daine Spencer will get contracts of one sort or other.

I think if given the chance, HSS will turn out to be this year's Cotric/Simonsson.

I hope whatever the issue is, he takes care of himself and recovers soon.

I really liked what I saw of him last year.

This might be the syndrome people don't talk about. I hope people are checking on him, don't force him to do anything, help him, message him if you know him. If he doesn't reply, all good, let him know you're there for him. I hope he comes out of it soon.

100% the reading between the lines on this suggest this is a mental health issue, rather than a physical one
Its important the club as a organisation and people in the club individually make sure he knows he's supported and he has a network to lean on
