Wests Tigers plot to unite Leilua brothers
THE Wests Tigers are considering reuniting the Leilua brothers, with Luciano declaring it’s a “100 per cent option” for older brother Joey to join him at Concord this year.
After signing Luciano Leilua from the Dragons, the Wests Tigers are now considering an attempt to bring his brother Joseph to Concord. Leilua is in the final year of his $600,000 contract with the Raiders and is unlikely to be retained. Canberra signed Melbourne's Curtis Scott in the off season.

Re: Wests Tigers consider signing Joey Leilua from Canberra Raiders
The writing was on the wall when the Raiders said they'd be prepared to release him from his final year. The writing was on the wall when Curtis Scott was signed. And then again when he didn't go to the Sunshine Coast...
Re: Wests Tigers consider signing Joey Leilua from Canberra Raiders
The Raiders where good for Joey as Joey was good for the Raiders.

Wests interested in making Canberra Raider Joey Leilua a Tiger
If you can't stop him, sign him. Sick of being on the wrong end of a Joey Leilua masterclass, the Wests Tigers are looking to bring the Canberra Raiders centre to Concord. But any move to the Tigers could have to wait with Leilua's manager currently overseas on holidays.

Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.

Re: Wests Tigers consider signing Joey Leilua from Canberra Raiders
No one here wants this to happen, but it so obvious it was going to
Re: Wests Tigers consider signing Joey Leilua from Canberra Raiders
Hopefully either way it doesn't drag out. I'd assume depending on his deal the longer it takes the bigger the hit on our cap.
Re: Wests Tigers consider signing Joey Leilua from Canberra Raiders
well this appears to be playing itself out exactly as we thought it would

Not a fan of this but what can you do
Sticky is RUTHLESS. Eddy Lee drops a pass, costs them a spot in a GF....Gooooone
BJ doesn’t pass in a GF *maybe* costing them a premiership......Goooooone.
Here’s hoping Bateman catches and passes EVERYTHING this year!!!!

Re: Wests Tigers consider signing Joey Leilua from Canberra Raiders
Not really. When Lattrell snubbed the Tigers, they said they still had money for a quality back. The only person I could think of who could fill that description is Joey.
Besides, would he still have the same passion to play now that Rapana is gone? A move might do him the world of good.

Re: Wests Tigers consider signing Joey Leilua from Canberra Raiders
My concern about letting BJ go, is he is the only X factor player in our team.
The flick pass for the Storm semi final win, plus plenty of other outrageous attacking plays out of nothing, makes him a big danger player.
Yes he makes some mistakes, but it’s alarm bells for the defence that opens up opportunities for other players.

Re: Wests Tigers consider signing Joey Leilua from Canberra Raiders
Yep, I agree it's a big risk. The Roosters conceded 1 try on average in the finals. I think it's near impossible to score more regularly in finals conditions without a couple of X-factors.BJ wrote: ↑January 19, 2020, 3:11 pm My concern about letting BJ go, is he is the only X factor player in our team.

Bateman is still one imo and hopefully Williams makes up some of the gap because based on what I have seen of Scott he is more of a classic center.

I agree re the lack of x factor without bj.... It's a concern I have heading into this season

I’ll miss him but think this is a smart move by the club.

Thought he was great in the grand final as well...
Re: Wests Tigers consider signing Joey Leilua from Canberra Raiders
I swear the rest of the RL world just doesn't "get" Joey. I get similar reactions from mates who support other teams when I mention him.
They are quite frankly, philistines, the lot of them. They don't deserve him!
Re: Wests Tigers consider signing Joey Leilua from Canberra Raiders
Yep, I actually am. I think we're a pretty solid line up this coming season, but I do have concerns we may just lack a touch of the unpredictable. I guess it depends how Williams goes.

Re: Wests Tigers consider signing Joey Leilua from Canberra Raiders
The problem with bj is the amount of money he wants/is on compared to the risk and work involved with keeping him on the field.
There is a lot of management that comes with bj to keep him focused, fit, training etc. Also the injuries are starting to add up.
Will be interesting to see how he goes if he does come back to sydney. Big ego, big influences will lead to a big bj and not a big performance

Re: Wests Tigers consider signing Joey Leilua from Canberra Raiders
Yes. We've banked on moving the creativity into the spine where it is traditionally created, vs the Joey wildcard out wide. And I just wanted to hear you say you worried once again. It's reassuring by now.
I'm on board everywhere as Joey's biggest fan, just from a pure enjoyment POV. And there was a poster here who said Raiders were good for Joey and Joey was good for the Raiders- that's truth.
Cotric will cause his share off problems for opposition, that's a given. If he just holds form from his "worst" year he'll still make yards, break tackles, finish almost everything and play rep footy and bloody deserve it. If he's in form then he'll be cracking in points he has no right to.
I've no idea how good Scott is. But there's no way he's as good in attack as Joey. Ricky may have decided that JB and Cotric are the big cheeses on that side and all you need is a good solid centre who is low maintenance, can be a good defender in a system and 7/10 in attack otherwise- that's still a very good player. Cap-wise, that might be the best use of $$$.
So I hear you on missing Joey's "X". But I'm not stressing an edge with JB on it will lack wildcard factor or an edge with Cotric on it will lack power and strike. In Rick we trust.
Re: Wests Tigers consider signing Joey Leilua from Canberra Raiders
Jack is definitely a genuine x-factor still, and Papa actually became one one in the forwards by season's end. Papa and BJ were the two players who could routinely get us out of trouble coming out of our end, and Papa's solo match busting efforts in opposition red zone became set in Raiders folklore late season.
But having Joey in the backs, Jack in the halves and Papa up front def had a massive, massive influence in getting us to the GF. And now one looks all but gone.
Lamenting this tbh

Our backline went from
Right side
Rapana and
Leilua
Left Side
Croker
Cotric
With simonson as a super sub...
to
right side
cotric
scott
left side
croker
simonsson
super sub ??
The loss of rapana would have been fine with simonsson, I dont ever remember curtis scott making me nervous even though he played for the storm... to lose leilua who was a huge part of the clubs turn around is a bit sad. I would have held him for the final year of his contract.

Re: Wests Tigers consider signing Joey Leilua from Canberra Raiders
As good as Joey was for us, with individual brilliance and his bromance with Rapa, and the X-factor he provides, the club made it clear that he wasnt in their future plans; the writing was on the wall. This is pro sport, where cap pressure rules.
Add to that, Joey now has a serious neck injury. Now, maybe it doesnt bother him and the rest of his career goes without incident, OR, maybe he gets cleaned up in Rd 1 this year and doesnt play again. This kinda injury doesnt go away. So, there is risk/ reward having him on the roster at this point in time. This kinda thing definitely factors into a teams assessment of the player.

Re: Wests Tigers consider signing Joey Leilua from Canberra Raiders
I dunno, it just appears ot me that we have moved further away from winning a premiership next year as opposed to closer.
Re: Wests Tigers consider signing Joey Leilua from Canberra Raiders
Yeah I agree - unless George Williams really fires. Again, I'm not sure of the logic behind the scenes but on the face of it I would have been very happy to keep him for another year
