Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2020
Will ultimately end up being the Burton kid from Penrith and Kyle Flanagan
So they've at least given themselves talented halves, though i dont know that i trust that team to develop those guys... but it's sure as **** better hope than Foran-Lewis

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2020
Barrett is a decent halves coach, it'll be interesting how they go still without a 1 and 9Botman wrote:Will ultimately end up being the Burton kid from Penrith and Kyle Flanagan

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2020
Doesn't JAC want to play 1?
Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2020
Bulldogs mate of mine reckons JAC going their is a media beat up to get more coin from the bunnies. Would be a good get for them, but will wait to see him sign before forming an opinion on where he should play
Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2020
Interesting...
Former NRL star Gareth Widdop could become the NRL's biggest bargain buy after being forced to slash his asking price to $300,000 in order to secure a club for the 2021 season and be close to his children in Australia. The Sharks, Cowboys, Dragons and Roosters have knocked him back due to cap constraints: https://wwos.nine.com.au/nrl/gareth-wid ... db142275d4

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2020
How can he slash his asking price? What if the NRL deems he’s worth more than what he’s been forced to reduce by, and rejects the contract?greeneyed wrote:Interesting...

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2020
That would seem a weird and arbitrary ruling to effectively shut a player out of the NRL because he's too valuable. It's not one I've ever seen applied.
Players slash their asking price all the time when they go to market looking for something silly and come back cap in hand to the other offers they had.
NRL would only really consider rejecting a contract if it was open and shut exploitation of some sort of loophole or dodgy deal- generally a top dollar player who everyone knows wouldn't *really* be playing for the cut rate. But Widdop is no superstar, a middling playmaker talent who struggles a bit with conistency- hence no club interested in paying him huge dollars but they might nibble at getting a decent experienced half at just above backup half rates to make it worth the punt.

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2020
Yeah true.. I’m just thinking of the Folau > Parra fiasco. They tried to get him for unders year 1 from memory, then increase, but it got knocked back.
I’ve said before, but I don’t get these players playing for unders, or slashing their value, when the NRL has a market value system based on experience, rep rating etc

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2020
Widdop was playing really well until Hunt and Norman came in and stunk up the joint. His last season at Saints wasn't great injury wise and with a head wanting to go back to the UK but overall he has been a good player his whole career.

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2020
He went downhill but I think he’d improve just about every team in the competition
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.
Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2020
The Dogs would be dirty that they rushed into buying Flanagan and now a far superior player that they really need is available imo.

teams are probably worried about the possibility of Widdops arm falling off during a game

100% fake news GE.... Roosters have cap restraints?
Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2020
Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2020
5 years ago you would. Widdop in his 30's with a battered body and playing the past 10 years in the halves would be too much to ask of him

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2020
With the raiders squad depth, every single member could play first grade and fill a role.
Our window is wide open for the next 3-4 years, and some hard desicions will have to be made about veterans soon..
Good times for the raiders ahead..
So, who are we dropping to sign anyone else for next year ? What's the hold up with Rapana ? That's the last top 30 spot ?

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2020
Rapana is the second last top 30 spot. One open after that.
Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2020
I feel that final spot will be left open in memory of our fallen comrade, JB.
Rest In Wigan, JB.

Storm prepared to release Brandon Smith from 2022 but may have leaked Cameron Smith’s 2021 plans: https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nrl-pr ... 44b429fab4
Suggesting Smith going to the Gold Coast.

I reckon BSmith would be an ideal pickup for when Hodgo gives it away..

Yeah probably..
Hodgo is 32 in 2021. Has been great for us. His knees are a concern.
BSmith is young and top class in my opinion, would look great in green.

His kids are enrolled at Merrimac State School. My client is a teacher there. He has one of them in his 2021 class.greeneyed wrote:Storm prepared to release Brandon Smith from 2022 but may have leaked Cameron Smith’s 2021 plans: https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nrl-pr ... 44b429fab4

And just on Brandon Smith. I think he’s shown he’s a better lock than hooker tbf.

Not a fan of the cheese.
Happy with Starling and havilli if hodgo doesn't come back from his knee.
Anyway who's the under 21s hooker? Apparently a good talent too..
