Canberra Raiders forge emotional connection with fans
After their surge to the 2019 Grand Final, new research shows the Canberra Raiders are also surging in terms of their emotional connection to sports fans.
The result is revealed in a research report which assesses emotional connection between sports fans and teams, compiled by True North Research. It is based on interviews with more than 4300 Australian sports fans who were familiar with the teams being rated. The ratings reflect the views of team’s supporters as well as those who are familiar with but neutral towards the teams.
The Raiders rank rank fourth amongst NRL teams for emotional connection in 2019, significantly more than in 2018.

Re: Canberra Raiders forge emotional connection with fans
I could believe that ranking if it was an assessment which didn't discriminate "which" emotion was roused by the team- everyone hates Melbourne, which is a very strong emotional reaction. No one gives a crap about the Titans.

I think many of these studies get influenced by one town teams. So lots of Melbourne sports fans are “aware” of the Storm and will profess some sort of support for them... even though they’re probably actually AFL supporters. Understandably, in the second biggest city in Australia, there are a lot of them.
The fact the Raiders finished fourth, yet the district has a population base of only around 500,000 at most, says a lot.

How are Penrith and Newcastle that low?
I'd have the Titans and Manly at the bottom of the list.
Cronulla is an interesting one.

I’d say it partly reflects sampling.Seiffert82 wrote: ↑November 26, 2019, 8:36 pm How are Penrith and Newcastle that low?

I really don't think "everybody hates Melbourne" as much as you think. South of the Tweed perhaps, but nobody up here hates them.
I'd go as far as to say they're in my top 4 favourite teams.

Now you've just given another reason not to trust Queenslanders. The Nickman wrote: ↑December 2, 2019, 9:40 amI really don't think "everybody hates Melbourne" as much as you think. South of the Tweed perhaps, but nobody up here hates them.

Research shows Raiders on right track to being winners with fans

People love winners, and the Raiders Grand Final season certainly filled Canberra Stadium but as new research shows there was more to it than the scoreboard.
The 2019 True North Research BenchMark Report looked at the emotional connection fans have with their sporting teams via a list of core values: respect, enjoyment, trust, pride and bond.
