Your team's big question to answer in the trials
Canberra Raiders: Can George Williams slot in seamlessly?
One of the biggest surprise packets of 2019, the Raiders surged from 10th the year before to a grand final berth. Both their performances and team selections were incredibly consistent through 2019, and they'll now be replacing halfback Aidan Sezer with England international George Williams.
Bonus question: Will Curtis Scott push Joey Leilua out of the starting side?

Extremely worried about the observations Dana made about George Williams. Couldn't land a pass, couldn't land a kick, can't throw, can't bowl.

I heard a story from someone up there that said they walked in on him in the loo and he couldn’t even wipe himself.
Time to start freaking out.

Raiders trained again this morning, session finished a short time ago. Got a Saturday session in on the Sunshine Coast before plane departs this afternoon. Only had one day off up there.
Re: Toughest preseason ever 2020
Azza, I'm not too worried about form during a 'holiday' training session in January. I'll be more concerned if we see it in the trial matches though.

NRL 2020: Your club’s biggest issue to solve this season
Is George Williams the man to take the Raiders that extra step?
You’d be a fool to question the Raiders’ recruitment of the English halfback considering their track record with bringing Super League players to the NRL. But there is obviously some trepidation surrounding the No.7 and if he can steer the side to go one better than their grand final appearance.

Canberra Raiders players run for cover as hail lashes NRL training session
New recruit Curtis Scott left Melbourne but took the ‘Storm’ with him to Canberra. The outside back and his teammates were left running for cover after a freak hail storm disrupted training on Monday. Raiders coach Ricky Stuart insisted the day’s training be completed.
Across Canberra, the large hail caused extensive damage to hundreds of cars and properties and injuries to wildlife

Why Ricky is happy with “filthy” Canberra Raiders
After going so close last year, it is critical the Canberra Raiders maintain their Grand Final momentum this season. And it is why coach Ricky Stuart is happy his team is still burning about the loss in the premiership decider.
“They are filthy, they are not happy with it. And the way we trained last week showed there is no taking it easy. Obviously it is a test of character but if you are worthy of being tagged with being a very good NRL player or a very good NRL team that is what you do, you be consistent.”

Canberra Raiders Stat to Fix: Make Canberra Stadium a fortress again
Canberra was once ranked among the game's toughest away trips but GIO Stadium was surprisingly not a fortress for the Raiders in 2019 despite the fact they made it all the way to the grand final.
The Green Machine finished with a respectable six wins and six losses as the hosts in the regular season but they were the only top-eight team not to boast a positive home record.

2020 NRL Premiers - who will it be?
Canberra Raiders
Looking to go one better in 2020, the Raiders know they have the right algorithm for premiership success after a controversial and dramatic conclusion to their 2019 campaign.
The emotional burn from the Grand Final will be sure to sit in the back of the minds of the Raider playing group, with the agonising loss to Sydney perhaps the torment needed for success this year.

Things heat up as young Canberra Raiders stake their NRL claim
Bailey Simonsson admits things have been getting heated during the Canberra Raiders pre-season, with a few hot young heads losing theirs.
"You can see in those younger boys, like myself, we're all just real hungry and sometimes it gets a bit heated out there. But it's all in good blood and everyone's just working to better themselves and better each other. The more competition the better."

Jack Wighton hopes George Williams can take Canberra Raiders to next level
Jack Wighton says the arrival of a tough "little bastard" from England, George Williams, will allow the NRL's second best defensive unit to climb the final rung in search of redemption.
"He cut me in half the other day the little bastard," Wighton said."He's good. That's it mate, it's one half of the game, defence, so it's always good to know you can rely on him in that aspect.

At the session on the Sunshine Coast last week I did notice Horsburgh put a bit of a hard tackle on Murchie when it was clearly not a full contact drill. Murchie didn’t take it well... threw the ball at Horse and they were quickly separated.

Fox Sports says the Canberra Raiders now have the best spine in the NRL
RAIDERS
Predicted spine: 1 Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad 6 Jack Wighton 7 George Williams 9 Josh Hodgson
Experience: 297 NRL games, Williams 173 first grade games (Wigan)
Rating: A+
Strength: All four members of this spine are tried and tested in their respective positions, and have proven to be top-quality players. Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad and Jack Wighton blossomed as an NRL fullback and five-eighth respectively in 2019, so much so they were integral in leading Canberra to a grand final.
Weakness: While there’s plenty of experience in the spine, Williams hasn’t played with any of them bar Hodgson. He needs to learn the Raiders’ playbook and find his place in the team as they gun for a second consecutive NRL grand final.

Re: Toughest preseason ever 2020
Yeah, that's how much we can read into these things.
Potentially we could be very good, but on the other hand we have an NRL rookie halfback, and a couple of blokes who have essentially played one entire season in their respective positions.
Walters-Stuart-Daley-Belcher gets an A+. Not sure I'm quite as certain about this combo.
