Canberra Raiders re-sign Sam Williams on two year deal
Raiders re-sign Williams as Sezer exit looms
Canberra are bracing for Aidan Sezer's expected exit to the Super League by securing back-up half Sam Williams on a new two-year deal, with an option in the club's favour for 2021.
Grand final halfback Sezer is tipped to seek a release from the final year of his Canberra contract to take up a three-year deal with Huddersfield. Meanwhile, the Raiders won't stage a mooted pre-season trial in England in 2020.

It's T_R... it's all his fault!
It's good that we have Sammy, he's the best back up half in the business and we can depend on him for half a season in firsts if needed, whenever he's called up.
I feel sorry for Aidan and I'm sorry to see him leave. He's a genuinely nice bloke.

Classic King of the Jerks behaviour.
Re: Raiders re-sign Williams
I dont think the money of this deal will be deemed important enough make its way out into mainstream media via reporting ... But i would be curious to know it.
And look, we can argue about what he's worth but ultimately as long as the issues that need addressing such as Wighton/Bateman/Beej are sorted, if there is money left to overpay a back up half, so be it. My only thing is really not wanting to put at risk other more important and valuable members of the team.
As long as the club is comfortable that they've got the space required to ensure those guys are kept and in the case Wighton and Bateman, extended... then this is a good bloke, well liked within the squad, and can help keep the train rolling in the event of a short term injury/suspension/rep duty, so that's a good guy to have in the 30

Yeah I agree with this. Happy to see the guy stay and I don't think we'd be seeing him stay if it meant losing those higher tier guys.Botman wrote: ↑November 5, 2019, 10:11 am I dont think the money of this deal will be deemed important enough make its way out into mainstream media via reporting ... It really seems to me like the club has got their salary cap management perfectly in order for 2020. It's very pleasing.

Hearing Williams is taking the pie and coke deal Sezer was apparently on.

No, you're thinking of the Bronx 'pie and coke'. Here in Canberra, its actually a pie and coke, with a 3rd part deal of a free mt bike.

Im sure you're kidding, but at 300K, thats perfect for a backup half of his experience. The Rickman wrote: ↑November 5, 2019, 1:34 pmThat's too much.Old School Green wrote: ↑November 5, 2019, 1:00 pmAm hearing 300K.....The Rickman wrote: ↑November 5, 2019, 9:20 am And cue arguing about how much Sam Williams should be paid... now

Re: Raiders re-sign Williams
If the 300K posted is true, Id say thats a great deal for us. A vastly experienced backup, who bleeds for this team, and is capable for short stretches of the season if required.zim wrote: ↑November 5, 2019, 10:18 amYeah I agree with this. Thats half what Sezer was reported to be on for this contract as a starter.
By all accounts, that will be a third of what Jack gets.

Isnt 150K min wage in the NRL these days? A spine player, even a backup, is gonna get more than that.
Re: Raiders re-sign Williams
It is $110,000 in 2020.
$115,000 in 2021 and $120,000 in 2022.

It's disappointing to hear about the significant drop in quantity particularly with the general quality being pretty ordinary throughout your career.
