Perth Nines - Which Raiders legend would you like to see come back?

Post by Brew »

Seeing as though Ricky will most likely not take the Nines seriously, which Former Player would you like to see comeback and play for the Raiders in the Perth Nines next year?

I’d like to see Tonguey or Campo have a run.

Monaghan? Carney?

There shouldn’t be any. It devalues the tournament.

I’m with Ferg, take the comp seriously or don’t **** have it at all

Make the stakes important, I dunno, give the winner guaranteed 8th spot or something

They're offering $1million prize money for the team that wins the Nines and the Premiership, that's a decent incentive.

Impacting the premiership itself would not be appropriate.

But fielding retired players makes the Nines a joke competition... and if it is a joke competition, don't have it. Seriously... don't have it.

You don’t think 8th spot is good enough, Ferg?

How about 4th spot and a guaranteed second crack? That would get the best squads playing!

Maybe Reece Robinson, he might go OK.

Former raider James Tedesco.

Nah I’m with GE and Nick on this one - do it properly or don’t bother.

Yep, same here. Once the novelty wears off after half a game the care factor drops through the floor.

Tigers to go all out!
Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate.
John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.

I think international nines every couple of years is the way to go. Teams were more willing to throw the ball around and have some fun - NRL Nines just becomes a minature game.

I used to like the 7s a lot but the days of the preseason comp are done. Move on NRL.

I am with the others who are not a big fan of the tournament. It provides some interest when Fittler played but I don’t think playing Negas or Jason Croker got anyone extra through the gate.

Potentially you could have a situation where the winner got two competition points and the runner up one.

That would give it some interest and something to play for.

It would be totally inappropriate to give teams competition points in the actual season for winning this.

So you think they should be given the minor premiership??

That's just dumb, I'm sticking with my original idea of guaranteed 8th.

It shouldn't have anything to do with the NRL premiership, beyond the extra prize money the NRL is offering if teams get the double, Nines and Grand Final winners.

You're confusing me now... you think they should be given a ticket straight into the NRL grand final?!?

So it appears Fergus just wants the winner of the 9s to also be handed the Telstra Premiership trophy too. What's the point of even having 24 rounds??

Grand plan

- Return to first past the post premiership
- Winner of 9s is granted 10 premiership points
- Commence the great race for the 9s leader in Round 1

Get on it Toddy G.

11 a side and bonus zone tries are worth 4.5?

That's stupid.

9s team plays with 9, 13 plays with 13. 9s get bonus tries and have to drop-kick their conversions, 13s don't.
