Cant disagree with the decisions to let those guys seek their chances elsewhere
Ata i feel a little for, he got a rough end of the stick here imo.
Which not to say i think he was going to be a superstar, or even an NRL level player... i just dont think he got a fair opportunty to show case himself in limited chances in FG. Hopefully he catches on somewhere else and gets another shot.

I feel bad for them, but they weren't going to crack first grade again.
I do even a little worse for Ata, though. We misused him terribly during that weird period where Sticky was trying to turn halves into hookers.

Yeah, I feel bad for Ata as well. Hope he gets a gig somewhere

Re: Ata Hingano, Royce Hunt and Brad Abbey to depart Raiders at season's end
Felt Hingano should've got a run after showing good form in Mounties when Sezer was dropped and Williams was down on performance in first grade, but alas Sezer managed to get back and lift. Looks like Sam will definitely be re-signed as the back up half for next season.
Never got much of a look on Abbey or Hunt. Haven't kept tabs on their form but Hunt is a big unit so may no longer fit the game Sticky is trying to play. IMO we'll need a specialist cover for fullback if one isn't already lined up.

Hingano had a full season in the halves at Mounties to make a case for retention. That's opportunity enough.

I reckon Brad Abbey had some decent games for us..
He couldn't fill out a jersey, a bit light on..
But he had a go !!

Yeah but thats not how this works. He's off contract and we're right now on the hook for Sezer,Williams and Wighton as halves, with our back up on much more than you'd like the back up to be on. It wouldnt be a total stunner for me that if Sezer is moved on, that Ata comes back as our primary back up, but we have to make decisions based on circumstances presented to us right nowNorthern Raider wrote: ↑September 18, 2019, 7:45 pm Hingano had a full season in the halves at Mounties to make a case for retention. Hingano played well for Mounties, was misused dreadfully in limited chances in FG. I dont know that i'd call that a good opportunity for his career. But that's professional sports i guess, it's another reminder to as why i am pro players empowerment. They dont get many chances, and some of their chances really arent chances.
Ata Hingano might never play another game of FG again, and his last crack at a career was as a half being asked to play hooker and wing. That's a bitter pill to swallow if you've worked so hard for so long and got that close to it. But again, that's pro sports. You need a delicate combination of talent, work ethic, luck, and the right oportunity to make it big.
Re: Ata Hingano, Royce Hunt and Brad Abbey to depart Raiders at season's end
I think the club's made the right calls. I don't think Hingano played well for Mounties or in first grade - though injuries have been cruel to him, and kept interrupting any momentum. He seems like a nice young bloke, quiet and respectful, and hope he gets a fresh start.

Ata was royally shafted. Should have been given a run in his natural position, but Sticky was in a weird place at that point in time.
Re: Ata Hingano, Royce Hunt and Brad Abbey to depart Raiders at season's end
Hopefully they can find new first grade or ESL spots. Hunt was always good to watch in Mounties in particular.

I just typed Royce Hart instead of Royce Hunt on another forum. Definitely gives away my age
Re: Ata Hingano, Royce Hunt and Brad Abbey to depart Raiders at season's end
I think Hingano was pretty Unfortunate. Got hurt at the wrong time and we haven’t had a lot of injuries in the halves the past couple of years. We needed him at hooker last year and then coming on to the wing in that game against Manly was never going to work.
Abbey I thought looked pretty good last year. He was a star in under 20s but after 3 clubs in 4 years is at the crossroads. It is worth noting that Mounties were on top of the ladder to he got hurt and then it all went downhill.
For mine Hunt should never have got a 3 year deal. It hurts me to say that because he came from really a bench player at Mounties to first grade through sheer hard work. But I never really think he had the ability for consistent first grade. He can say he played 1 NRL game which is more than any of us and he deserved that.

Re: Ata Hingano, Royce Hunt and Brad Abbey to depart Raiders at season's end
Admittedly I don't know what Hingano's contact value is but l doubt letting him walk is going to create any space. If the club felt his performances at Mounties showed potential to be a back up option for 1st grade then retaining him would have been an easy call. Capable back up halves on minimum coin are a rare commodity. It would be a case of keeping Hingano on the books and working a release for Sezer or SPigRickman wrote: ↑September 18, 2019, 7:58 pmYeah but thats not how this works. Re: Ata Hingano, Royce Hunt and Brad Abbey to depart Raiders at season's end
Abbey played his role for us, and no surprise was rocks and diamonds. He is not a FGer. Given Simmonson, Cotric, and Andre Niko being at the club, Im happy to let him walk.
Royce Hunt, he will always be remembered for those 6 horror mins in Bathurst. Im not sad to see him go either.
Hingano might have been shafted in FG, but he has had his chance to earn a contract and hasnt done it.

Re: Ata Hingano, Royce Hunt and Brad Abbey to depart Raiders at season's end
They rotate out, it's fine. Things didn't work out for them here and the cub doesn't see them as FG'ers- they've slipped backward in the pecking order during their time here for whatever reasons. They are mostly young enough to have one more crack somewhere else.
In both parties interests to move on to other things- the players get one more shot at a fresh start if they are good enough. The club brings in slightly younger players or players it thinks have more potential or who suit the suad better due to other roster changes and freshens up the top 30. Win-win.

From what i watched live this year Hingano had silky ball skills but poor defence. Im surprised Ohagan isnt gone yet either.

Yeah, that's so **** that our halfback was able to lift his performances to keep other contenders out of the position.afgtnk wrote: ↑September 18, 2019, 7:43 pm Felt Hingano should've got a run after showing good form in Mounties when Sezer was dropped and Williams was down on performance in first grade, but alas Sezer managed to get back and lift. I hate it when players I don't like are in good form too. Makes me feel bad. It's so conflicting when we win football games or when Jarrod Croker makes a try saving tackle. I don't know whether to cheer or cry.

God knows how much material people have against you bagging Ricky Stuart over all the years that could be brought up.

Bring it on.
I'm loving what Stuart did with the team this year. No question about it. The last two seasons were appalling.
The difference is you can't stand to see Sezer succeed.

Re: Ata Hingano, Royce Hunt and Brad Abbey to depart Raiders at season's end
With the English Williams on his way here a halves player/s had to go. Nothing personal, just sound cap management for Ata leaving.
The Club has signed a bunch of junior Rep forwards to blend with the experienced/Internationals. I liked Royce but others are better.
My major concern with Jack moving to 5/8 was that we would again need Abbey at FB. CNK put that aside and Simmo is the FB backup. Abbey is a long way short of being a FG fullback imo. We have so many other options for the backline that are not defensive liabilities.
I wish them all well and hope they find opportunity elsewhere. Every Club has to rotate the marginal players if they don't see potential FGers. In professional sport not everyone can get a prize.

That's it isn't it. As fans of laundry it's pretty easy to toss the wearers aside.
I hope some of these blokes (actually all of them) are able to cope and adjust to a world where their dreams are just shot up and thrown aside, for whatever reason. Hopefully they love the game and keep playing, if not I hope they've got something else ahead of them in their long future. It isn't everything.
