I understand what Mundine is trying to do (most of the time), but in being controversial to get publicity he is incredibly divisive - especially some of his commentary about racism. Much of it is clearly an act though. The way he speaks out about certain matters often doesn't seem natural.

He is a good athlete and he typically tries to do the right thing for the Aboriginal community. I'm sure he does a lot of really good stuff behind the scenes - he just often comes across as an idiot when he opens his mouth.

Fair play to him though. The controversy he generates suits boxing to a tee. It keeps him relevant despite being well past his prime.

Yeah Choc has weighed in very poorly on a lot of issues over the years but he has also done a lot of good. I’d like to believe his intentions are good and he’s trying to use his voice for positive purposes but no doubt he’s taken some poor positions on issues over the years. If nothing else I have great admiration for his commitment to his training - he’s near 45 years old and still in extraordinary shape - that takes some amazing commitment. If his son has that level of commitment and a few skills and passes the attitude test I’d be curious to give him a go.

Think of him like Alice Cooper, it's an act/character he plays to stay in the limelight- he's actually an incredible man doing amazing things behind the spotlight.
Very very clever, everyone needs a villain.
Agree with this.said some stupid things when he was younger but he’s a bloody super indigenous role model.

Given the hateful things he’s said, I fail to see how he’s a good role model for anyone.

Its hard to separate "the man" from the shtick... clearly his whole boxing persona was the shtick, and i get that. Money is to be made out of playing the villain and making people fork out PPV money to see you get smashed.
There is no question that his work in the aboriginal community is deeply impactful and he's a tremendous person within that community... but also, whether just part of the shtick that went wrong or just his views, he has said a half a dozen things that are straight up appalling, and he's refused to ever apologise for any of them to my knowledge. Also i think he genuinely believed he was a far superior footballer to Daley and Fitler, which was delusional to say the least.

He's a complicated guy for sure. What isnt complicated is inspite of all that, as an athlete, he was incredibly gifted. He was a very good footballer albeit not a great one and people who know the boxing game better than i say he was exceptional there too, that takes some serious talent to be that good at two wildly different sports

And i dont think any of this matters in relation to young CJ. If the club thinks he's got potential to be a future FGer, then we should be putting our hat in the ring.
