I thought Sezer was excellent in that game. Certainly his best "big game" performance for the Raiders. Fingers crossed that form continues.
Yeah, good summary Lui_Bon. Just on Point 6 - our first try came from such a pass. Later in the match when Vunivalu put BS over the sideline I think BS had white line fever and just went for it. Not a bad trait in a winger, but some situational awareness where the defenders are, may have produced a small left foot step or slow down where Vunivalu may have overshot the target. Anyway, in his first season of FG, he is still learning and like CNK and HorsPOWER has been great to watch.

Was going to make the same point about our first try and that it was a shift in that direction and a beautiful pass to the winger that created it. The commentators were banging on about how we looked more dangerous shifting right without mentioning our only try came on the left!

When Simonsen got knocked over the sideline I think he hesitated and if he had really pinned his ears back he might have got closer burnt was great defence and no reason not to use that play in the future.

11. Raps has nothing to worry about.
12. How good are the Raiders?
This is a really good summary, Lui. My thoughts:

1. I've said all year the Storm won't win the comp. They've been consistently best all season at sticking to their game plan, but as last season showed, when it comes to the big dance, more often than not the best team on paper wins, and the Roosters are far superior. And we're not that far behind, on paper. And we showed on Saturday that if we stick to our gameplan, we're a VERY good team to go along with being good on paper.
2. Bateman was immense. After he attempted to scoop the ball off the turf and missed yet the Storm somehow still knocked it on, I said to my fiancé "he's god, he can't do ANYTHING wrong" and when he scored that match winning try, my god, I **** all over my ****.
3. Maybe. I'll need evidence, timestamped before my original "coming out" post. Hmmm, not quite what I was going for, but I'll allow it.
4. Did he play? I don't even remember seeing him!
5. Future Clive Chuchill medallist Aiden Sezer was very good again. He goes so much better when Hodgson gives him plenty of early ball.
6. Not sure, maybe one day.
7. I wish you were too, old friend.
8. He's the best forward in the game now, IMO. I know I'm biased, but I genuinely believe if Qld wins Game III he gets man of the series.
9. Joey was great. Flew in the face of all the usual suspects who didn't want him to even play. Won us the game!! Cowards.
10. Tapine also won us the game! It was his tackle that lodged the ball out on the "Fox". You get a bit of stupid with Joey and Joey, but you get a lot of match winning moments too. I'd rather they were both there on the big day.
11. Nope.
12. Fantastic.

One more thing I have to add though, our kicking game is still TERRIBLE. We literally never finish sets well, so we only ever start a set in good field position off either a penalty or an error from the opposition. That simply won't be good enough in the big dance. Compare that to Storm's kicking game and they were often forcing us to work from our own end, while they were generally fielding bombs on their own 30/40.

Other than though, we're almost there. We're gonna win this whole damned thing, baby!

Yup, all three of he, Tapine and Cotric should be right to play in two weeks.

The teams with the most players fit generally win comps. Let's hope JWH gets suspended and the Storm/Eels (dare to dream?) knock them off in the Prelims.

Has anyone else read the story by Richard Hinds on the abc this morning? I can't stand the way this bloke writes about rugby league, even worse how he writes about the Raiders and Raiders fans. This bloke ghost wrote Billy Slaters biography, I reckon he's a bit salty about the result on the weekend.

Ricky Stuart is not everyone's taste as coach — but the Raiders are within reach of Grand Final number six

Not even the contents of a box of Assorted Creams divides opinion quite like Ricky Stuart.

Some swear the Canberra Raiders coach is the Monte Carlo of man management. Others consider his somewhat mixed record across 15 seasons and curl their lips as they might toward the forsaken Orange Slices.

Throw back to the storm game at home at the start of the year,it was the first time i knew things had changed, and even commented on the game day post, saying even though we lost it was the first time i had left the game feeling like something was different.
The way we kept attacking the storm after the lead they kept and got back to the point were the storm started to panic and making errors while shutting out the game, just knew it was going to be a big year

I did read it. Hinds usually writes with a "detached irony" style so it always reads like he's taking the piss. It's fine as an outsiders view on the Raiders. He gets the venue of our comeback victory vs Storm in the later rounds wrong, so it's clear he's a part time league writer.

I'd be outraged about his description of Raiders fans if I wasn't a 40 year old bloke who watched the game in a lime green Video Ezy jersey (twice) and who is wondering whether if excitement reaches fever pitch, my wife will watch the 1989 GF replay with me at some point (the full match hasn't been available anywhere I've been able to find for decades) so I had to give him points for accuracy there.

My main problem is that with all the talent that the abc has at it's disposal with grandstand and others, they let this bloke write all their opinion spots on the nrl.

Georgie Tunnie being a female voice who actually knows her stuff well. Even if she is a Brisbane fan. It's easy to respect her opinion.

And he may have nailed your demographic, but surely it's not hard to play guess who with any other team as your target. I just think they can do better.

Now, I know that "the system" is essentially another term for game plan - but if that term doesn't embody the absolutely robotic nature of the Melbourne Storm then nothing will.

They are a **** boring, tedious team to watch. Even at their peak...with the likes of Slater, Inglis and Folau in the team...their entire game plan centred around the wrestle and slowing down the ruck.

I **** hate their cap cheating, injury-causing, boring as bat**** style with a passion. The fact they were only able to score 1 try off a kick against us makes me so happy for our boys. It would be tragic for that team to turn another grand final into a yawn fest.

I think it's easy to criticise the Storm. Not many neutral fans like them... whilst I dont like the wrestling element they introduced to the game, one must respect what they have managed to achieve. They have great leadership at the club and Bellamy is probably one of the best coaches in the game.

2 things about the Storm - they are always competitive and the players that go through their "system" make them better individual players. They are both facts.

They are the best attacking team in the comp. On Saturday night, our grit won us the game - and for that we should be proud.

He also has BJ pegged as a forward so he clearly doesn't have the football knowledge of your average 40 year old sporting a video ezy jumper.

This is written for abc readers who don't care about football but are required to demonstrate a passing interest every september when you can't have a workplace conversation without a little bit of knowledge, not for die hard fans. Yep, 2 glaring factual errors and a sneer at part of our Fan base. That passes for an ABC story? Richard Posterior should have Andrew Moore fact check his articles before they are published. I can't wait until he discovers that the Eels have gone even longer without a Premiership win. Did we get any info on why Sutton didn't play or why Sia didn't play the 2nd half? It seemed really strange.

Great defensive performance by the Raiders, we really held tight and weren't stretched very often, even when they had the momentum early in the 2nd half and we were out-enthused. To only concede the 1 try from a kick against Melbourne at their place in a semi final is amazing.

Agree with Rickman on the last tackle options still being an issue and also those that have gotten in on one of my favourite gripes about the kicking for touch. When we're defending the way we are, i'm happy when we're pinned back in our end if Jack just puts a boot through it early in the tackle count and we wrestle field possession back with our defence after turning the opposition around.

I couldn't see Vunavalu touch the line so I say it is a howler which is truly amazing because IMO touch judges are pure window dressing and barely ever make a call these days. I'd say at least 90% of the time every touchie in the game would err on the side of caution even if it was likely the line was brushed so I was shocked. In any event I was fuming at the time, we knew they had to kick short and they're going to go to Vunalalu rather than Addo-Carr so why we weren't stacked on that side to not allow them to get the ball so easily had me beat. The only good to come out of that howler was that it became the talking point of the game which suits us perfectly, the more we're underestimated and seen as scraping through, the better as far as i'm concerned.

The only other talking point that I don't think has been covered was I was in favour of Croker kicking for goal for that first one that he missed, I thought 5 minutes later we would have been better off playing on, partly because even though it is his preferred side it was a harder kick, partly because I thought his confidence may be a little off from the last one and mostly, it just felt like we had the weight of possession and momentum and needed to make it count. I can understand how this team may not have had the confidence to take that measured risk in a final because we're not quite there yet in terms of belief, but I thought for the amount of times we've gone the quick tap this season when the easy 2 was on offer because we backed ourselves with momentum, that was one I thought we should have backed ourselves in.

The week off and the home preliminary final is huge for us and I look forward to the buzz around the town next week. I commend Ricky on the way he's managed the players in the last few weeks to get us to this point, and I think resting a few key guys the week before was beneficial. It's a great time of year for everyone else to get a week off to nurse through the bumps, i'm really going to enjoy watching the 2 games next weekend :D .

raider dos wrote: September 16, 2019, 7:57 am Has anyone else read the story by Richard Hinds on the abc this morning?

It's also trying to generate controversy when there isn't any because that's how you get clicks and we all fell for it like a blind roofer.
Yep, 2 glaring factual errors and a sneer at part of our Fan base. That passes for an ABC story? Richard Posterior should have Andrew Moore fact check his articles before they are published. I can't wait until he discovers that the Eels have gone even longer without a Premiership win. Same story line with some changed names and that 'don't you know who I am you pleb, I am the superior one' attitude to writing. One thing about the balance of the Green House, even arrogant writers get a run.
What are you talking about? NOBODY’S segments in the greenhouse get a run unless your name is in green text!

All the rest get relegated to the Lime Lounge
I still remember 2016 at the height of the segment era as one of the happiest times on the GH. It really was just people riding a wave of success and wanting to enjoy it. I'd like to see it make a comeback in the main game day thread for the run home here. Pigman's a **** and you know it, Franks view from the lap, so many happy memories, all relegated to the basement of the GH...

Great defensive performance by the Raiders, we really held tight and weren't stretched very often, even when they had the momentum early in the 2nd half and we were out-enthused. To only concede the 1 try from a kick against Melbourne at their place in a semi final is amazing.

Having watched the video of the "line touch" incident a number of times you can see some dirt fly in the air, the touchy looks at the spot and then raises his flag. I can see why people are upset but cameras for the high shot are probably at least 50m away and the low angle is probably similar. I am prepared to give the touchy the benefit of the doubt. Just because there isn't a conclusive camera angle doesn't mean it didn't happen. I'd be fuming if it was the other way around but we won so I can be circumspect about the limits of technology!

Can't agree with not taking the 2 even though both were missed. in 2016 it would have been tap and go but this is a team that backs themselves to defend a point lead for victory. Even though we missed the shots we got the ball back both times which is another defensive set from the Storm and more fatigue for them. I think decisions were about having confidence and composure and not the other way around.

Well "Pickman's Nickman" was MY favourite until you completely passed me up for a mention, so now I'm going to have go for "Pigman is a ****".

Oh luke, I was a MASSIVE fan of luke's psychological vulnerability rating, with luke!

Hbomb's Lock of the Week was another good one. It really is no surprise to me that the team and the forum in general went completely off the rails with the banning of so much quality content.

Hugely appreciate that, Rickman. Support like this was a massive help in managing my Raiders-based psychological vulnerability issues.

We had a call go our way with the touch line incident no doubt.

But you know what ? I don't care..

There's no guarantee the scum would have scored anyway so life goes on.

What's more concerning is the positioning of the touchie when the short kickoff was taken. That ball only travelled 11-12 metres but the touchie was standing on the halfway line I reckon. He was obscured by the Raiders boys and I'm 100% certain if the touchie was in the correct position to start off with he would have seen quite item clearly SV stayed in the field of play.

He screwed up..but It certainly did not effect the result.

Now is not the time for arguing about which segments were better. It is a time for acknowledging that all of the segments made the GH a greater place for everyone (with the possible exception of a few faceless people who only wanted to read about football). They were a way for everyone to contribute in their own unique way and demonstrated the creative side of so many posters who routinely had their posts lost in the pages and pages of vitriol and irrelevance. It gave every poster a chance to shine, rising on the tide of raiders success that made us all better people and better posters. It is now time my friends, to make the GH great again and the only way to do that is more segments in the teams and previews thread. Who's with me?

Because no one reads the Lime Lounge dubby! The joy of it was that it was a part of the game anticipation even if it was only incredibly loosely related to the game, if at all. It was an organic movement spurred on by the Raiders success that was then hidden in a corner and not deemed worthy of the light of day.

I just rewatched this again and while you can't see a conclusive angle of him touching the sideline his finger (presumably) flicks up a divet and that must have touched the line. I am pretty sure that was what the touchy made the call on and what Wighton and Croker were pointing out to him. I don't think it was a howler, certainly a line ball decision that went our way.
