Canberra Raiders re-sign Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad to end 2023
Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad closes in on massive contract extension
After signing for the Raiders for just $130,000 a year, Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad is deep in discussions for a three year $1.5 million contract extension that could keep him in the lime green until the end of 2023.
Nicoll-Klokstad's management is also seeking an upgrade for 2020, but there's little room in the Raiders' salary cap next year.

Signing up a player of that talent in the fullback position for 500k is an absolute steal. Jack was in around 800k form what I remember.
Get it done Donny.

Averaged over the life of the whole contract. But the way it’s worded suggests the 3 year extension component is for 1.5M which will be 500k per year unless you know there’s some form of frontloading?julian87 wrote:That’s sub 400 a year ftr, not 500

You’re averaging over the extension, not the whole contract.

He's a very reliable, safe player. Does his job. I think that's a reasonable offer.

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

It’s clearly $500k a year extension, and the article states there also after an upgrade for next year.Coastalraider wrote:yeah I was working off the average over the contract.gangrenous wrote: ↑August 31, 2019, 5:35 pmAveraged over the life of the whole contract. I think that’s a nice middle point deal for all parties
Substantial upgrade for CNK and money that go a long way to ensuring he’s set us financially but probably enough flexibility for the club if his ball playing doesn’t develop (which I’m starting to feel confident that it will btw, more recently we’ve started seeing some flashes of it)

Look, I like the kids attitude and spirit. He never makes Wighton like ball handling errors, and does everything right.
Yes, I'd like to see him develop and grow as a player because that will help our team.
This seems like money well invested for the right amount of time.

500k is cheap for a spine player. Good move
Re: Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad closes in on massive contract extension
The only risk is that he stops putting his body on the line after he gets a few more bumps and bruises. No doubt he has been a superstar this season.. i just hope he continues to improve over the next few years

Yeah, it's a huge contract for a guy who's been around minimum coin for several years. It's also fairly low cap figure for a top fullback. Win win situation.

Re: Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad closes in on massive contract extension
He's proven himself as a safe FG fullback with good attacking skills. He is often there in support but the ball doesn't get to him. Good move by the Raiders. We now have the spine for the next few years locked into place. Hopefully DFJ can get this done.

Re: Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad closes in on massive contract extension
Yep good move. If he develops his passing game over the next couple of years, he will be able to upgrade and extend the next contract.
I think the money is about right. He’s not quite at the next range and opposition will have him sussed next year unless he brings new skills.

I don't think any Raiders fan could be anything but ecstatic with locking in CNK for multiple years to come. Great price too. He seems like such a quality human being who makes me proud to support this club. And such a hard worker, there is zero chance he does anything but knuckle down and earn every cent the Raiders pay him.

I'm not sure there's a lot for other teams to "suss" out in Charnze's game actually. He should be reasonably well placed that regard as his footwork is varied, he doesn't have a single huge step he relies on- just good stepping and footwork overall. Not like a single, Austin style "gimmick" for teams to plan against and limit opportunity/watch for.
Same with his support play- it's still developing but there's no real "pattern" like a Boyd/Wighton sweep play where it's a signature.
Being a fairly simple footballer who just plays on pure courage, soaking up meters by running straight and fast and having good positioning instincts aren't easily stopped by tactical changes by teams.
The worry for a player like him is if he loses 2% physical edge then his simple style just ends up with him being even more battered as he can't win those contests he urges himself hell for leather into.
Interesting his hands have let him down a few times lately- maybe getting worn down (or just the haircut) by his first full season.

Raiders Re-Sign Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad
Raiders re-sign Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad to end 2023
The Canberra Raiders have received a huge boost heading into the last home match of the regular season, with Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad extending his contract with the Canberra Raiders until the end of 2023.
Nicoll-Klokstad was currently on contract with the Raiders until the end of the 2020 season, however his wonderful debut season for the Raiders has seen him gain a three-year extension on his current deal, joining Joe Tapine as Raiders signed until the end of 2023.
A stunning debut season from Nicoll-Klokstad has seen him play all 23 matches to date, scoring 11 tries and cementing himself as the Raiders number one fullback.
Nicoll-Klokstad said that he's excited about the chance to re-sign with the club and was keen to build on his impressive start with the Green Machine.
"I'm really happy to be staying in Canberra. I still pinch myself every week that I get to play in the NRL and to get the opportunity to stay at this wonderful club for another four years on top of this year is fantastic,” Nicoll-Klokstad said.
“The big goal is to be the long-term fullback here. I know there is some stuff that I need to work on, and we have a big game against the Warriors this week as we look to build for finals.”
Raiders CEO Don Furner said the re-signing of Nicoll-Klokstad on a long-term deal gave both the club and Nicoll-Klokstad long term stability and said they would be looking forward to seeing him continue to develop his game for the club.
“Charnze has had a wonderful first season for the club after joining us late in the pre-season. He’s taken his opportunity with both hands and has established himself as an NRL player,” Furner said.
“We see him as our long-term fullback and it’s a credit to his dedication and work ethic to see him rewarded with this new deal.
“We believe the best is still yet to come for Charnze as he continues to work on his game and become a more experienced player at NRL level.”
