This is sensational stuff. A last ditch play leading into the grand final, I genuinely love it.

Re: Retain or release?
Regardless of 500k, 600k or whatever, he would be MAD to not look at other options right now.
Likely earning power if he stays - 1 year at Raiders at circa 550k - on to the market at the end of next season as 'likely' a first drop NSW cup half. May sign a contract with another team for 300k for 2 years or so. Total earning over 3 years - 1.15M.
If he leaves now he is at the highest market value of his career. He is currently stating half for a GF team. He could very likely walk up to any UK team for $500k. He could likely also pick up a spot at another NRL team like the dogs for $500k (if not more). To break his contract, he would negotiate a 3 year deal taking him to 31yrs old. There is every chance that the Raiders would even throw in $100k to sweeten the deal. Total earning power over 3 years - 1.5 million EASY.

Re: Retain or release?
How so?
The base cap when he signs for three years on $500k p.a. is $6.1 million. This is in 2015, for 2016.
In 2018, the base cap goes up to $9.1 million as the grant is increased off the back of a new broadcast deal. The base cap this year I think is at least $9.2 million. Squad's are extended by five places (25 to 30), in order to accomodate minimum wage guys for greater injury depth.
In June 2018, Sezer extends his contract for two years until the end of 2020.
Therefore, you can't seriously believe he's stayed in that original wage bracket given the increase in the cap, which means he's effectively taking a massive pay cut?. Absurd proposition given this is the most basic of logic.

Re: Retain or release?
When they were trying to re-sign Austin they were trying to re-sign him for more than Sezer. Austin rejected 700k. It's pretty simple to follow that Sezer is on less than 700k.
That's the problem with base logic. It really ignores the reality of the situation as you cut off the parts you don't like.

Re: Retain or release?
My logic checks out a hell of a lot better than the speculation and innuendo you've just provided, given those cap figures and increases are fact.
There's no chance, I repeat no chance, he's on around what he signed for. Player wages are a function of the cap and they go up in line with it - they don't remain stagnant. Again, that's not even taking into consideration what increase he could have gained outside of that natural rise from the broadcast deal in his second contract.

Re: Retain or release?
Not all player wages are just a function of the cap. You're over simplifying it again. There's a lot that goes into how much each player gets paid including RLPA agreements (min wage). You've seen a brown apple and decided it must be a different type of fruit.
Re: Retain or release?
Raiders negotiations with Sezer took quite a while and neither the Raiders or other clubs were scampering to sign him. His manager didn’t come out in the media plugging his clients new deal. Suggesting something around $550-600 as a guess.
Manager Sam Ayoub is always quick to promote an above expectations deal for any of his clients.

Re: Retain or release?
RLPA payments are just ~4.5% of the base cap mate - which are also a function of the cap.

Re: Retain or release?
Maybe I'll try explaining it another way.
John Bateman is currently negotiating an upgrade. CNK just received a relatively small upgrade. Simonsson has been re-signed, Horsburgh, rep bonuses for some and so forth. Now because of what is happening in other parts of the cap Leilua can't be re-signed beyond 2020 at his reported 600k deal. He would need to accept less (or we would need to lose some other high paid player) to stay.

Re: Retain or release?
I don't think you're quite getting this, Zim.
Aidan Sezer signed with us originally under a completely different salary cap in 2016. It's now 2019 and the cap has gone up by three million dollars.
When the cap goes up, the players demand and get their share of that. It's in their contracts. You don't get an extra chunk of money to spend on a whole new batch of players whilst keeping your existing players at the same level, nor would those existing players ever accept that from a fairness perspective.
What the likes of Bateman, CNK, Simonsson do are all under the current cap. If the cap the changes, say with a new broadcast deal, their wages will increase commensurately.

Re: Retain or release?
That's not true. Some contracts are structured that way such as DCE's. He gets a percentage of the cap. Some are flat values.
If that's wrong, point me in the right direction. Happy to learn something new.

Re: Retain or release?
Those long term deals are different and very few players have them, hence why I said most players are pegged to the cap. I'm pretty sure none of our players have this deal.
The Taumalolo deal also seems to be the same where both he and the Cowboys have taken a long range punt.

Must have missed that one thread to be fair but I don't have to dig far back before that to find some pretty putrid stuff to be honest...Especially from Pigman.

We all know the "shot out of a cannon" line continuously trotted out last year. I think it was a big reason Nickman started that thread. Plenty of historical examples of Nickman accepting a different point of view. He's not rusted on to an opinion.Raiders666 wrote: ↑October 1, 2019, 6:01 pm Must have missed that one thread to be fair but I don't have to dig far back before that to find some pretty putrid stuff to be honest...Especially from Pigman.
Pigman a different story.

Re: Retain or release?
We also re-signed him when he was down on form when he had what seemed like zero interest from other clubs.afgtnk wrote: ↑October 1, 2019, 2:23 pmHe'd very easily be on that. Every report had him on 500k and that was on the old cap.
Since then the cap has gone up by three million and players nearly all have their salaries pegged to cap rises. That's also not withstanding any increase he managed to negotiate outside of that rise in his new contract.
700k is honestly a conservative figure. Zero chance he's still on 500k.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.

Re: Retain or release?
I don’t believe that. He and his manager know the club didn’t sign George Williams to play reggies.Raider Azz wrote: ↑October 1, 2019, 10:42 amWell I think the point is Sezer isn't leaving anymore. He's still under contract, and doesn't appear to want to go anywhere. On the other hand, Williams is off contract.Ruben Daley wrote: ↑October 1, 2019, 7:00 amThat's true. But the ESL is not a one-way trip anymore, so maybe going over there could be the opportunity he needs to lift his game and stake a claim for a return to the NRL in two years. He does feel very young to be going over.Bay53 wrote: ↑October 1, 2019, 5:40 am I think Murchie would be a bit silly to go to Super League at this stage.
His best is very good, he just needs to do it more often. There are too many games where you watch and forget he is playing. I would have thought he would be making an impact in nearly every game in NSW Cup by now.
However these things can turn Around quickly. It is not beyond him to have a big pre season and become a regular.
I'm more surprised the club would let Williams go. Assuming Sezer leaves, as expected, we need Sam to fulfil the back-up half role. Particularly now Hingano is gone. Unless our young halves are now up to the job.
Things will happen after the GF. Sezer will be elsewhere (with premiership medal).

After just reading the story on NRL.com about John Bateman seeking an upgrade after signing with the lovely guy Isaac Moses - I release whoever I need to so John Bateman finishes his NRL career as a Raider.
Re: Retain or release?
Interesting to read that TBH - not sure why they would bring that out now however it is GF week. Can we lose bateman, no but looks as though most people are resigned to let Sezer go - jeez tough call but understandable with G Williams already locked in

Sezer will go, raiders will do what it takes to keep Bateman, may lose Joey and Rapana also might leave us a bit light in depth in the backs next year.MS_1302 wrote:Interesting to read that TBH - not sure why they would bring that out now however it is GF week. I can't see the club letting Sezer play Mounties on 500k a yr or whatever it it...Makes more sense to keep Williams
