Manly will be dangerous, but if Ricky has our heads switched on I believe we can win this. And we owe it to ourselves to do so.

It'll be at least 22k if we get reasonable weather, I think - the excitement that will now flood the city will be infectious.
EDIT: Long-range forecast on BOM suggests around 15-16 degrees, fairly sunny. The perfect recipe!

The worrying thing is Jordan Rapana... reportedly a burst blood vessel in his wrist. Sia Soliola knee... Munster might be in trouble according to the post game show tonight, as he came in late, tackling below the knee on Soliola. And Tapine ribs, cartilage was mentioned in the Fox call.

Nothing about Bateman’s knee? It looked ugly in the tackle and he threw his hand up. He’s a tough bugger!greeneyed wrote: ↑August 17, 2019, 10:10 pm The worrying thing is Jordan Rapana... reportedly a burst blood vessel in his wrist. Sia Soliola knee... Sia was part of the viking clap - he will be OK it seems. Rapana was super brave.
Re: 2019 Rd 23 V Sea Eagles: Teams and Previews
Ricky Stuart says in the press conference that Joe Tapine hurt his ribs last week and was playing with a pain killing injection tonight... but couldn't get through the second half.
Re: 2019 Rd 23 V Sea Eagles: Teams and Previews
Really hope that Raps isn't just bandaged up and named to start again - his body must be held together with tape at this stage. Play Simonsson and give him a chance to rest and recover while we can before the finals

Assuming Tapine is injured, my team would be:
1. Nicoll-Klokstad
2. Cotric
3. Croker
4. Leilua
5. Rapana
6. Wighton
7. Sezer
8. Papalii
9. Hodgson
10. Soliola
11. Bateman
12. Whitehead
13. Horsburgh
14. Simonsson
15. Lui
16. Young
17. Sutton
I considered starting Sutton but I honestly think Horsburgh deserves it over him, he's been putting in some good work since he's been back. Young in for Tapine if he's injured. Hopefully the others in doubt are good to go.

I wouldn't mind seeing Young come on for the last 20-30mins at second row with Bateman shifting to lock... would give us a fresh player attacking an edge that's been worn down and brings Bateman's niggle and staunch defence to the middle to close out the game. Wouldn't mind seeing it for the Manly game and I think it's the type of game plan that would work well against a team like the Sharks who we've got coming up.

Injuries pending of course. If Tapine wasn't injured I'd expect Soliola to drop back to the bench as a "rest" but I don't think we'll see 2 changes to the pack unless it's forced.
Sutton to play the tackle bot at lock. If it was a prop we were replacing I'd go with horse.
Hudson Young to come in over Guler as a like for like replacement for Tapine. Liva to continue to build minutes for Mounties.

On form Simonsson gets the wing spot over Cotric. Not sure what has happened to Nick this year, he has not come on like we all expected him to. I still think he was lucky to get a start with NSW in game one. For some one with such a big frame, he does not seem to bend the line at all. I don't think he will lose he's position in the side, and hopefully he gets it together soon.

I think we need Horse coming off the bench now. That middle 40 minutes is really important part of the game and we need horse here I thinkRaiders_Pat wrote:Assuming Tapine is injured, my team would be:

I’m with Hors off the bench as it’s a key role in the modern game. Our bench props are forming a good combination and Papalli and Sia are starting us off well too.
We are very balanced at the moment and players know their roles.

If Tapine is injured then who off the bench starts at lock this game for you? I think there is some merit in starting Sutton but I think I prefer the idea of starting Horsburgh... you could even play him for 40-50 minutes straight and then sub him off for Young or something like that. The other option would be Lui but for me considering all options I'd have Horsburgh there.

Assuming Tapine (ribs) and Rapana (burst blood vessel) are out injured, I'd pick:
1. Nicoll-Klokstad
2. Cotric. I know he had three weeks off, but he needs to find form real fast.
3. Croker
4. Leilua
5. Simonsson
6. Wighton
7. Sezer
8. Papalii
9. Hodgson
10. Soliola
11. Bateman
12. Whitehead
13. Sutton, because he needs to be in the run-on side fo full impact.
14. Oldfield as cover for the backs.
15. Lui or Havili
16. Guler
17. Horsburgh

I’d be resting Rapana if he’s not 100% fit and even if Tapine IS fit I’d be sending him to Mounties for a week to sort his **** head out. That was criminal what he did against the Storm, should’ve cost us the game, and he deserves to be punished for it
Hudson Young in for Tapine and Havili into the 17 for Rapana (if required)
If Sia isn’t fit then Guler comes onto the bench and Horsburgh starts

Don't mind this team but I personally wouldn't have Young starting unless it's a necessity through injury. If he had been playing regular first grade the past few weeks and putting his hand up then it might be a different story. I think he definitely deserves a run this week on the interchange though. The Rickman wrote: ↑August 18, 2019, 11:49 am So I guess that makes my team something like this:

How about Bateman 11, Sutton starting at 13 and Young on the bench Pat?
Re: 2019 Rd 23 V Sea Eagles: Teams and Previews
Horsburg is playing better footy but Sutton is better suited to start at lock if Tapine is out. Simply because Sutton offers zilch off the bench.
I have Lui at two attempted strips the last couple of weeks, 2 penalties given and zero success rate. He needs to put that back in the locker. He's the kind of no-name player the refs will pounce on and ping for anything to show they don't let stripping ruin the game.

The only reason why I'd have Sutton starting at lock over Horsburgh is for reasons others have mentioned i.e. Sutton not being as effective off the interchange as he has been in starting roles and the fact that Horsburgh has been playing a fantastic role off the bench. I think Horsburgh deserves the spot though and is capable of handling more minutes.gangrenous wrote: ↑August 18, 2019, 12:52 pm How about Bateman 11, Sutton starting at 13 and Young on the bench Pat?

We have shown we don’t need more than 3 forwards on the bench however I don’t know if Bailey is the right option but I think we need a player who can come on and add spark when needed. That may mean limited minutes in most games but is an option we can carry up our sleeves in games.Brew wrote:So what do we think going forward, persist with Bailey on the bench?

I’m thinking maybe Tom Starling??? Can probably cover positions in backline as well as providing some spark around the ruck

I tend to agree with this, but can’t see it happening. It would be a different story if Simmonsen was playing out of his skin at every chance. I suspect Cotric will get the nod this week but if he has a poor game against Manly I think pressure will be building. Raps looks busted on the other wing but is giving all his got. Cotric looks big and fresh and just isn’t impacting at the moment. Would love him to find form and put on a show this week!!89_90_94_?? wrote: ↑August 18, 2019, 7:26 am On form Simonsson gets the wing spot over Cotric. The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

I still think he was lucky to get a start with NSW in game one. For some one with such a big frame, he does not seem to bend the line at all. I don't think he will lose he's position in the side, and hopefully he gets it together soon.
He's not the same as last year.
And Rapana is pretty banged up too.
