2019 Fans' Choice Player of the Year



The Fans' Choice Player of the Year has been awarded since 2004 with an impressive roll call of winners, including Ruben Wiki, Alan Tongue, Terry Campese, Shaun Fensom, Jarrod Croker, Josh Hodgson, Jordan Rapana and Nick Cotric. Josh Papalii won the award for the second time in 2018. An individual trophy, sponsored by The Greenhouse, is presented to the winning player at season's end.

We have built a great tradition with this award at The GH, and you can be part of it!

Who will be the winner in 2019? It is you who will decide!

In the Fans' Choice Player of the Year, you can register your votes here for the top performed Raiders player, on a 3-2-1 basis. The rules are you can only allocate 6 points or less each round, and can split them any way you like, but no "half" points are permitted and no player can be awarded more than 3 points.

So, you can give the best player 3 points, the second best 2 and the third best 1, in the traditional way. Or you can give two players 3 points each. Or you can give 3 players 2 points each etc. No half points are permitted.

At sometime after Tuesday each week, all the points awarded by everyone to each player each round will be aggregated and then the top three players will be awarded 3, 2, 1 points.

Only votes made by Raiders fans in posts on this thread on The Greenhouse and in response to the post on The Greenhouse Facebook Group will count.

In this thread, feel free to speculate on who will be the player of the round prior to the match.

But 3-2-1 votes can only be made AFTER completion of the match in this thread.

3 - Sia: Thought he was our best on ground by some margin. We looked really different with him there. More direct in attack, aggressive in defence and got back to playing footy over playing for penalties.

2- Bateman: Not his finest moment with the kick at the end there but we were in hail mary territory anyways, otherwise a big game for him.

1 - Hodgson: We looked our best in those moments where he was cooking out of hooker. The ruck was a bit too messy for him to dominate the game but he found ways to impact it regardless

I do just have to say Wighton has a really bad habit of going close but losing the ball.

He’s no Marshall Chalk but it concerns me it might happen in a really clutch moment at some point.

All the hodgson points surprise me.

He went alright with a good strip and some good work, but he also looked a bit off at times as well which really hurt us when we had some momentum, when he goes for a wander playing whats in front of him but there nothing on so the play just dies.

He has been the best hooker in the comp (even though I only watch raiders games nowadays, i stand on my mountain and make that call) for the three weeks prior to this one, when he has just been decisive with fast service or attacking the line himself mixing it up with the right play at the right time, todays performance was far far from that. Not bad perse, but certainly not one of our top three performers.

True, but this is a massive improvement on where he used to be where he would go close to losing the ball and not recover and lose the ball!

The thing I like about Wighton is the bigger the game the more threatening he looks, whereas a few other players seem to play more damaging against the less threatening teams.

Me too.

Hodgson was both good and bad.

We were pretty good when Sezer and Wighton ran straight, both made a few half breaks when running straight. But Roosters continually pushed us wide with their ruck control and defensive structure.

I’ll give the team 6.8/10
