Massive decision for the coaching staff coming up with Sutton and Young available this week and heading into the Finals. I have my opinion on what they should do, very interested to see what Sticky does.greeneyed wrote: ↑August 5, 2019, 9:57 amJarrod Croker said last night he should be back this week.Wiki Special wrote: ↑August 5, 2019, 9:54 am 1. At full strength I swap Leilua and Simonsson (Cotric to wing) with Havili dropping out for Sutton. Young and Havili very unlucky but great to have depth.greeneyed wrote: ↑August 5, 2019, 10:01 amWhat is it?Wiki Special wrote: ↑August 5, 2019, 10:00 amMassive decision for the coaching staff coming up with Sutton and Young available this week and heading into the Finals. Re: 2019 Rd 21 V Roosters: Teams and Previews
Great problems to have with a fully fit squad.
My take is Leilua won't be in the 17 on Sunday.
I'd run with:
1. CNK
2. Simonsson
3. Croker
4. Cotric
5. Rapana
6. Wighton
7. Sezer
8. Papalii
9. Hodgson
10. Soliola
11. Bateman
12. Whitehead
13. Tapine
14. Havili
15. Horsburgh
16. Lui
17. Young
I think Sutton and Joey will be saved for Melbourne away.
I can see Rick rotating No.17 between Young, Guler and Sutton until either injuries or bad form from No. 15 - No.16. I think Red Horse and Lui are playing well enough to hold those two spots for the moment.
Havili is too versatile to leave out IMO.

Re: 2019 Rd 21 V Roosters: Teams and Previews
I think we keep Havilii on the bench. It's the way we need to line up for finals so he stays.
In finals, with HIA compulsory etc we need a hooker on the bench. Havilii is not just a back hooker, he's a solid FG middle who is one of our most regular and reliable sources of offloads for second phase.
Otherwise it's too easy for teams to just belt Hodgo and next minute we are mucked up on an edge because we've pulled Bateman in to hooker etc. Easy to whack a guy in a semi/final because there's no real suspension consequences.

Yeah, all good points. If Havili stayed in my 17 I'd still pick Simonsson on the bench and Lui would miss out.BadnMean wrote: ↑August 5, 2019, 10:36 am I think we keep Havilii on the bench. It's the way we need to line up for finals so he stays.

Possible that if Cotric starts in the centres, BJ might replace him late in the game to get some minutes and confidence whilst Cotric is rested or moved to wing or fullback to rest another.

Makes a lot of sense actually. BJ can replace either Cotric or Simonssen for maybe last 15-20 mins. Otherwise use him as an extra middle like Storm do with Papenhuysen.Cranky Old Man wrote: ↑August 5, 2019, 10:50 am Possible that if Cotric starts in the centres, BJ might replace him late in the game to get some minutes and confidence whilst Cotric is rested or moved to wing or fullback to rest another.

Honesty, it's not unusual for a player to loose a little confidence after a nasty injury like that. Be no shame in him playing a week in Mounties. Tear up some park footballers and come back ready to rock for rd 22.

It’s pretty obvious to retain him in forst grade. He doesn’t just cover hooker either. He indirectly covers the halves too in case Stuart wanted to use Hodgson there rather than a backrower if there needed to be an in game replacement.BadnMean wrote: ↑August 5, 2019, 10:36 am I think we keep Havilii on the bench. I think given the current starting pack is our best 6 forwards Havili is actually the first bench player picked.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.
Re: 2019 Rd 21 V Roosters: Teams and Previews
Yes, this whole Havili conversation needs to stop now. He is obviously an extremely valuable and versatile player, perfectly suited to the bench when you have back rowers who can play 80. One point I would like to make - if Hodgson ever has to move into the halves due to an injury (though I would prefer Whitehead or Bateman move), we need to make sure he does not defend on an edge. Far too slow laterally, and it has been shown up before.
Stuart will likely go with a bench of Havili, Leilua, Lui and Sutton, given his past comments. Personally, though I think Lui has been great, I would prefer to see Horsburgh in there in his place. I want to see Young and Guler again in first grade before the season is over, too.

Re: 2019 Rd 21 V Roosters: Teams and Previews
With us, roosters, storm and manly all delivering thrashings and the Sharks back in form, you get the feeling the whips have begun cracking.
There will be nowhere to hide from now on. We have to play 4 of the best 6 teams in the competition over the next 5 weeks.
Personally I don’t think we need a hiding place, and we will acquit ourselves well in the home stretch to the finals.

I'd argue about the Sharks-back-in-form thing. Yes, they won, but clearly nobody turned up to tackle in that game.

As plenty of people have said, at least 1 benchie only plays 20mins a game. There is also at least 1 player who often only plays 30-35mins, again, could be Havili or BJ. Interestingly, for us, Ricky often has 2 plays sub 25mins. Here are the low mins from the past 3 wks:
vs Warriors: Havili 23mins, Sia 23mins (is that correct?), Guler 33mins, Horsbough 34mins
vs Panthers: Guler 16mins, Havili 23mins, Horburgh 34mins, Sia 35mins, Tarpz 37mins
vs Tigers: Havili 17mins, Guler 18mins, Horsburgh 28mins
In other words, no reason to believe we cant carry 2 utilities on the bench. Esp with Sutton returning, who has proved he is a big min forward. This is what the Storm are doing, and no reason we cant. We still have plenty of versatility in that side too, with Tapine, Papa, Sutton and Sia capable on the edge, to go with hooker/ half cover in Havili, and a genuine back.

PS. I just watched Sterlo’s wrap.
He is tipping us to topple the roosters and further confirm that we are a premiership threat.
Fingers crossed he is right!

Starting BJ on the bench does expose us to a significant backline reshuffle though. Pretty hard on Cotric to switch from right centre to left wing halfway through the game.
It'll be interesting to see what Stuart does. Horsburgh would be unlucky to lose his spot, same as Simonsson.

Do you start with Bateman at centre for the first 20, with say tapine at second row?
When BJ is ready to come in, you can sub for a front rower and shift tapine back to middle, and Bateman back to 2nd row.
My 2 cents anyway

If Hodgo is going to get a rest its not until the last round of the regular season, he needs to be out there tearing it up and giving us a platform to work off, rest him with 20 to go if we look like we cant be beaten
Re: 2019 Rd 21 V Roosters: Teams and Previews
No brainer for mine. Cotric and Leilua in for Oldy and Simonsson. Not sure how it's even a debate. Yeah it's unlucky for Oldy and Simonsson but how good is it having depth like that to call on! Won't surprise me if they ease Joey back in though.

Canberra Raiders may keep Joey Leilua on ice for Roosters clash
Raiders centre Joey Leilua is eyeing an early comeback from a neck injury which has kept him sidelined for 14 weeks, but teammate Aidan Sezer expects the club to show caution.
"Everyone knows BJ's influence on that right edge, he's one of the best centres in the game and it will be a great inclusion if he's fit, but I think the club won't want to rush him back. They'll want to get him 100 per cent right," Aidan Sezer said.

I work at Jarrod’s old school in goulburn. Apparently the club has donated 250 free tickets to the school to celebrate his game this weekend. Fantastic gesture from the club
