Canberra Raiders Ryan Sutton may be out for four to six weeks with calf strain

Canberra Raiders forward Ryan Sutton may be missing up to six games with a calf strain.

"We'd finished training and I took one little step and it felt like a golf ball had hit me in the back of the calf," Sutton said. "I got a scan and it said it was a grade-two tear. They've said 4-6 [weeks], but I'm already making a lot of good progression so I'm hoping to be back a lot sooner."

4-6 weeks in raiders speak is 2-3. My money is he doesn’t travel to NZ, and comes off the bench for the Roosters game.

Absolutely agree. Started the year expecting he'd be selected on the bench, but wasn't sure he was in the top 17 players on trial form. Now I'm very sad to hear this news. I'd be selecting him as starting prop.

Yeah i agree. I think him and Papa up front is how i'd be starting things.
He's been super impressive and his workrate around the ruck has been and will continue to be missed.

I did this exact tear last cricket season and it’s the biggest **** to come back from. He’ll be closer to the 6 weeks than anything earlier I’d say.

Ive had a 5cm Tear just above my achillies a couple of years ago at soccer.

And Unfortunately it is one of those injuries, that the only healer is time as you cant really over do the rehab until its healed, if you push it too much early, it actually stops the progress of healing. - I beleive my physio (who i play with on the same team) said to keep off it completely/wear moon boot for 7+ days IIRC

He's definitely better as a starter. He's floundered a but and never found his groove as a bench player imo.

Once Hors returns we'll still have a very good pack.

A bench of Sia, Havilii, Guler, Hors/Young looks ok.

Usually when players complain of 'phantom contact' behind the calf, it's a lower calf tear and these types of tears can be very tricky.
I'll be very surprised if it's not 6+ weeks.
The lower that 'tear feeling', the more it becomes an Achilles issue and should be treated with a lot of caution.
I have faith in our medical team this year, they have been outstanding.

Calves are notorious for just popping again and again if you push it too early. Even once you feel 100% right it will still give under fatigue.
