Canberra Raiders re-sign Corey Horsburgh to end 2022

The Canberra Raiders have re-signed forward Corey Horsburgh on a three-year deal, which will see him remain in Canberra until the end of the 2022 season.

Horsburgh made his debut in round one this year and has been impressive in his 10 appearances for the club so far this season.

Horsburgh said he’s excited about re-signing with the Raiders and looking forward to continuing his NRL career with the club.

“It’s really exciting for me to be able to sign a new deal with the Raiders and I’m looking forward to staying in Canberra,” Horsburgh said. “The club gave me the chance to make my NRL debut this year and I’ve also had the chance to play more matches than I was expecting which has been a big bonus for me.

“I just need to keep improving each chance I get at NRL level and hopefully I can become a regular first grade player for the club.”

Raiders CEO Don Furner said Horsburgh had shown great commitment and improvement this season and has proven he can be a long term NRL Player.

“Corey put in a really strong pre-season and forced his way into the team this year with strong commitment to his training and a good attitude,” Furner said. “He’s proven he has the ability to make it as an NRL player and we’re excited to watch him develop over the next three seasons.”

Nah he’s great to have in the rotation, one off game doesn’t change that for me.

Heaps of time to develop. He'll spend some time at Mounties from time to time, but he's got great potential.

Grew up just north of Brisbane though so not sure how much the Cowboys invested in him before they released him.

Whilst I can see why some people are not 100% sold on him I think he will play Origin before that contract comes to an end. Tomorrow night may spell the death of a few QLD forwards Origin careers.

He came up through their system and we reaped the end benefits of it. But he did play some juniors for us before moving into mounties.

I sorta agree.

I don't think he'll amount to much. Another Redwards.

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

I disagree Fergus.

Horsburgh is young, strong and aggressive. But let's not get carried away.

Let's wait and see.

FWIW I hope he is awesome

I’ll be absolutely STOKED if he does, to be perfectly honest

It’s very, very rare for me to not like a raiders player, and I dunno, there’s just something about him that I don’t rate

But as I’ve said again and again and again, I genuinely hope he proves me wrong

Good potential.

He Needs to do brain training under fatigue to improve his ability to stay focused under pressure. Also Corey must develop some techniques to keep his head in the game when being baited by the opposition.

His natural strength and skills will take care of the rest.

That last game in Darwin he literally had his jersey pulled up a couple of times so it was sitting halfway up his body. His numbers weren't great, but he definitely showed a lot of guts there.

as per every other signing, I can't get excited or un-excited because I don't know if he was signed at $105k, $150k, $200k, $300k or $700k per season to know the value of this signing.

What do you think he’s worth? Factoring in current form and potential..

$250,000

hard for me to say, the salary figures that make it to the press are usually for the higher echelon players.. and even those can't be taken as 100%. Going by those it's easier to compare say Ben Hunt to Ash Taylor for value, whereas Horsborough should more so be compared to players like Young, Guler, Murchie and those mold of players from other teams.

looking at the contracts of our current squad I probably wouldn't have Horsborough in my first 17 until 2021, he'd probably be 18th man but receive a fair bit of game time that way, so I dare say $250k might be on the high side over the next 2 years, but be good value for the 3rd ?

...anyways look forward to seeing the red headed horse rip in

Just as long as we're thrashing those Dragons or the Storm or the Broncos or the Panthers, doesn't matter where they're from, it might be West Tigers, the Cowboys, Cronulla or New Zealand, but if I don't take a breath I reckon I just might be keeling over soon...

No more though.

I hope Don's not signing on potential though.
