What do you guys think about trying this?Good Morning,
For the attention of match day/supporter liaison staff
I’ve been floating this idea with a few mates as part of another way of allowing fans to participate in the game and also spur the boys on and as far as I know, it's not done anywhere else in the world so we'd be the originators solely.
Throughout NRL/ARL history fans have always gone with generic chants when their team is putting a real push on the try line in the opposition half.
My proposal would be that instead of undertaking this generic chant that we actually start a "Viking Row" which would entail all us supporters facing the way of the try line were trying to score at and motioning a 2 handed row towards the try line at a pace, with every time we stroke we make the same guttural sound we do during the Viking Clap. Whether it speeds up in tempo or not is neither here nor there. Maybe a drummer, fan or provided by the Raiders could dictate.
From most indications I've had it's been positive, just wondering what the Raiders might think of it.
Just imagine it on TV and at the game, everyone rowing the boys over the try line...
To get it initiated during the game we could either use the ground announcer, Victor or it could become an organic reaction.
I really feel that this will cement us as a leader of supporter interaction/experience within the NRL.
Looking forward to hearing from you

Viking Clap - Mark II - Viking Row
Decided to send this into Raiders HQ this morning for thought:
Re: Viking Clap - Mark II - Viking Row
As long as its ge yelling “stroke, stroke”
Dont delete this GE
Re: Viking Clap - Mark II - Viking Row
People struggle to clap at the same time, good luck with this.
Re: Viking Clap - Mark II - Viking Row
While everyone launches into the Viking row, GE is left clutching his chest and pointing at the Defibrillator.simo wrote:As long as its ge yelling “stroke, stroke”

Re: Viking Clap - Mark II - Viking Row
It's a good idea. I agree it would be fun for the crowd- be a really unique and effective way to spur the team on (the sound and energy would be awesome)- and look cool on TV (a bit like a Mexican wave effect). It would work just as well in defense too to give the team a lift- the crowd urging them off the line to hit the other team.
May be hard get off the ground- it would likely be a dogs breakfast the first few games it was attempted. At least the Viking clap is before the game so they could teach it and get everyone organized and synchronized with the horn...
I have no idea how many Raiders fans/members actually read the GH though, or the FB page (I avoid the latter, there's probably a few who do the opposite and most wouldn't bother with either I'd guess but might still come to a game). So how to get word out? A demonstration?
If we save the Clap for pre game and spontaneous after great wins but fans get used to the idea of listening for the sound of the drum/horn and that mid match it signals the row, pre game it signals the clap it could work.
That way the club/announcer can gee it up with the horn similar to how they try to gee up the traditional chant and the crowd drummer (or PA) can drum the rhythm...
Interesting.
We'll have to be prepared to be mercilessly mocked by the rest of the NRL- I can imagine the gestures used to mock it But stuff the rest of them, what a breath of fresh air for a club to be prepared to do something original and different.

I like the idea. Not sure how you pull it off through.
Ive always wanted to try the NBA/ NFL 'defense' chant. Somehow incorporating the Shield wall. No clue how though.

Everyone brings Viking Shields to the game and put them up shouting DE-FENCE! Might make it hard to watch the game though.

I like it, if done well it would be similar to the Poznan
Some NRL clubs do something sort of like this. Around the 75th minute, if their teams getting a hammering, they turn their back and walk out. Chants are generally NSFGH

Was more thinking more like a clapper/ drum/ symbol type thing to make noise. All stand and bang it in unison a bit like the Viking clap with the 'Oooo' sound

Hey all..
Just on the Viking Clap.
I believe it started in late 2016 ??? Can anybody tell me exactly(what rnd in 16) it started and who we played that day...
And also, is there any teams that haven't experienced the VClap as a visiting side ?

1 million page views per month is very impressive. I wonder how that compares to other team supporter forums.greeneyed wrote: ↑June 17, 2019, 1:58 pmNow in our 15th season, we have over 3,400 members of TheGH.com.au and the site averages around 25,000 unique users and 1,000,000 page views per month.

For that to be a fair and balanced criticism of the draw you have to remove the 2016 and 2019 games, Peej

Ok, take out the 2016s and add those remaining 2019s and see how unbalanced the draw now looks-PJ- wrote:Well Rickhead..

Re: Viking Clap - Mark II - Viking Row
The club would do well to have half a dozen big ones of these made up... hand them out each week to members in the inner bowl... one week membership privilege, and make it clear that they're to be returned for the winners next week...
Can't be expensive... and would look great on TV.

Round 24 vs Parramatta. We had 18,000 there that day, and we won by a big margin. Brenko Lee scored four tries and all of them were off Croker flick passes and Parramatta just could not stop him.

Ah, I remember when people thought Brenko was good. I would have got a hat-trick myself outside Croker that dayraiderskater wrote: Round 24 vs Parramatta. That D- Fence thing is lame. I still vote for a green terrible towel (The BIG SNOTRAG?).
Re: Viking Clap - Mark II - Viking Row
I know it sounds like crud, but have you seen the Pittsburgh Steelers?
It's a towel because anything bigger would flog your neighbour in the stands, and we only want to ... I'll stop.

I’ve seen it. It’s bad there too.
