Canberra Raiders Jack Wighton signed a contract to stay away from Canberra CBD
Late last year, a few days after escaping a jail term, Jack Wighton called Canberra Raiders football manager Matt Ford. Wighton asked for a contract to change. It gives the Raiders the power to rip up his $500,000-plus contract at any time.
“I got myself officially barred from the city region of Canberra. I signed an agreement just so I’ve got no temptation to go in there (city). If they (Canberra) catch me in a club in the Civic area, my contract is terminated. It’s over.

Well good on him taking a big of responsibility. Takes some kids a while to grow up, maybe this was the wake up call he needed. Certainly a step up from Carney's response to his last ****-up in Green.

Now lets remove that clause before Politis invites him there for a coffee.

Certainly an interesting one. Agree it shows great intent on Jacks behalf but hope the club works hard with him over the next few years to position him with the self accountability he will need post football when he can’t outsource his personal accountability. He is obviously trying hard to do the right thing and good on him! Hope the club supports him in this quest well beyond his career.

If only Todd Carney and his management had thought long term, they may have realised the career that Carney’s drinking habits would throw away.

Need to ban him from him from all suburbs South of the lake. Nothing good ever happens there.

I have to hand it to Jack. He clearly is well aware of how badly he ****ed up and seems quite determined to show that he deserved that second chance. You can see it in his playing and you can see it off the field too.
I hope it continues for the rest of his career, which is hopefully long, bright, and lime green.
When the news first broke, I was ready to add his name under Carney's, Dugan's, Ferguson's. His response shows light years more maturity - and light years more loyalty to this club - than any of theirs.
