Canberra Raiders V Wests Tigers
Friday 7 June 7:55pm
Western Sydney Stadium
Gates open: 5:30pm
NSW Women's Premiership: Wests Tigers V Cabramatta 5:45pm
Tickets: Click here
TV coverage: Nine, Fox League Channel 502
Radio: ABC, Mix 106.3
The Raiders broke a three game losing streak in Round 12, a narrow 12-10 victory over the last placed Canterbury Bulldogs. They again play in Sydney in Round 13, against the Wests Tigers at the brand new Western Sydney Stadium. The Raiders will have their State of Origin representatives available... but they will have played just two days earlier. The other positive is that both Joe Tapine and John Bateman have now made successful returns from injury - but Canberra still has the likes of Josh Hodgson, Jordan Rapana and Joey Leilua on the sidelines.
So who should line up for the Green Machine next weekend? Tell us your team here and see how you go in comparison to the official squad when announced. We will include the official line ups in the first post of this thread as soon as they're available.

I am guessing with the Origin boys back we won't be allowed to play Starling. Maybe Rapana but guessing not, will be an interesting 21 man squad Ricky picks considering three players need to get through Origin.

I would go Sezer at 14. He has played a bit of hooker before.

Must be some chance Rapana is back.
Re: 2019 Rd 13 V Tigers: Teams and Previews
I reckon Cotric will have a ton of work to do Wednesday and would be the most likely not to back up.

Re: 2019 Rd 13 V Tigers: Teams and Previews
We are doing pretty well this year considering we don't have a 1st grade standard halfback... Once we get that sorted we will be a top side
Re: 2019 Rd 13 V Tigers: Teams and Previews
I would split Tapine and Papalii up in the rotation. We lost the middle battle when we had Sutton, Soliola and Young up the guts imo.
Sutton not as effective as a bench prop either it seems.
CNK
Simonsson
Croker
Cotric (Kris)
Oldfield/Rapana
Wighton
Sezer
Lui
Havili
Horsburgh
Bateman
Whitehead
Tapine
Starling
Papalii (Guler)
Sutton
Soliola
Can’t see Young dodging suspension.
Papalii bench is solely post Origin. If he’s good to start then I’d bench Tapine and have him and Sutton start where Sutton has been more effective.
Oldfield v Simonsson is a really tough one. Oldfield is an old pro and hasn’t put a foot wrong. BS has also been sensational and seems a bit more naturally suited to the left once Rapana is back though imo. With Leilua out and our attack being one dimensional I think when Rapana is back he needs to be gone the locense to roam. Whitehead/Bateman and Cotric can slide
One out when he does do.
We miss Leilua immeasurably. The chances he creates in attack despite his half just can’t be replicated so until we have a good half to partner Wighton we need to manufacture something imo. The other option is Bateman roaming but that’s harder to do from second row which is more rigid in the structure.

well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.
Re: 2019 Rd 13 V Tigers: Teams and Previews
I'm guessing it won't happen but Hingano deserves a shot, the other two haven't got what we need. He wasn't given a go in the halves and deserves a shot.

To be honest, I wouldn't have Starling in my team but I wouldn't mind seeing him getting another run. Neither of the halves impressed me but of the two I'd have to pick Sezer. I also wouldn't mind it if Starling dropped out for Sezer at hooker and Williams to remain at halfback. Whatever the case, these three make up the weakest point of our possible 17 imo.
Oldfield has been really solid but I think I'd prefer to see a bit more of Simonsson to see how he can go. I have Horsburgh starting in my side but wouldn't mind seeing him switched with Lui for better balance in the rotation.

I have to agree with this. I don't see it happening either but neither Williams nor Sezer are putting their hand up. Give Hingano at least a game or two to show what he's got.
My ideal team would actually be the team I named above but 7. Hingano 14. Sezer, Starling out.

If Rapana is back Simonsson gets the left wing spot for me. Younger and more upside than Oldfield.Raiders_Pat wrote:I wouldn't mind this at all if Hodgson wasn't injured. I'd be playing him in place of Starling, who probably won't get the exception anyway.Raiders_Pat wrote: ↑June 2, 2019, 12:22 pmI wouldn't mind this at all if Hodgson wasn't injured. He managed 62, you'd think 65 or 70 is possible maybe 80 if possession is good. Bateman and Simonsson can cover 10 or 15.Raiders_Pat wrote: ↑June 2, 2019, 12:33 pmI'm not sure if Havili can go 80mins at hooker thoughedwahu wrote: ↑June 2, 2019, 12:31 pmI'd be playing him in place of Starling, who probably won't get the exception anyway.Raiders_Pat wrote: ↑June 2, 2019, 12:22 pmI wouldn't mind this at all if Hodgson wasn't injured. As mentioned earlier, I'd prefer to see Hingano get a run at halfback but I just don't see it happening. So the above is my next best team.

Re: 2019 Rd 13 V Tigers: Teams and Previews
Alternatively Bateman can shovel at 9 for 15-20 mins before you introduce Havili. That could work as it’s when the defense tires a bit that Bateman’s footwork and nous becomes more valuable anyway.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.

Have to have the Raiders at long odds for this with the outs. If they can find a win it’ll be huge.

Re: 2019 Rd 13 V Tigers: Teams and Previews
Oh god, I hope Papa at least can back up strong from Origin. If he can't, we are beyond screwed.
The question mark will be over how the three Origin players back up. We have evidence that Papa can, Jack probably won't get many minutes in Origin so he should still be fresh. Cotric is the big question mark. He's looked a bit tired towards the end of matches in the last few weeks.
Just don't let any of them get hurt. We don't need any more injuries.

I'm starting to wonder if the Raiders have been cursed by the footy gods, punishment for too much success, too early!

God, we desperately needed that ugly win against the bulldogs, but need to be about 200% better against the tigers, as they always show up ready to play and will be tough

Really starting to run out of troops with Young and Horsburgh out. If Rapana is back I’d love to see Oldbeard go into the 2 and Simonsson come off the bench into that middle of the ruck position about the 65th minute like they intended a few months ago
