... or at worst, pay him in line with his ability (below average NRL centre).

Nearly a decade in the top grade and still defends like an amateur. Makes embarrassingly bad reads for someone who should be better, given their experience level.

The club should leave emotion to one side for a minute, and assess things objectively. Can you construct a premiership winning side whilst carrying his defensive liabilities and significant cap hit?

I reckon the other 15 clubs would have a different answer to the Raiders...

No use discussing this when BJ is out for a year.

Terrible terrible defender, almost always comes in near the line and slides backwards when the play id further up field. This was pointed out by Gasnier last week - we see it week after week, after week.

He who must not be criticised is having an absolute bludger of a season.

This is the difference between top clubs and us.

They systematically weed out anyone earning more than what they put in and get maximum value from their cap. We consistently overpay a run of the mill centre and make him our captain.

Yeah, he didn't have a great game tonight, but he did come up with a massive play that contributed to the win and stuck his hand up to admit it.

He's having a blip, he's not been the only one, he'll come good.

I definitely think he is a great club man and deserves a walk up start in our team.

Unsure about his captaincy credentials or representative prospects though.

I thought he started the season really well but has since fallen off a cliff.

With Cotric and BJ the best 2 centres at the club, it would make sense to move Croker on.

Cotrics had two games at centre and BJ is usually abused for being rocks and diamonds.

Toots isn't holding us back from a premiership.

That only works when you can replace Mitchell Pearce with Cooper Cronk.

Nah, Croker is loyal... and thats rare these days. I wanna see him break the points record held by one of the grubbiest players in the game in Cameron Smith.... only 200 more points needed to crack the 2000 :cmon

It's easy to be loyal when every other offer is 100k or more less than you're on.

He's dropped 2 try winners in 2 weeks- didn't Boogs cop a hiding for that, Eddie Lee? But they got the shaft. Defence is middle of the road after all considered, so is attack. Kicking is good but we have x2 similar kickers.

Today he was average but found a way to win with the strip. I'll pay that. But I if it came down to paying Cotric, Rapana, BJ or Toots he'd be last and lowest. Because he had winning plays in his hands/5m vicinity and couldn't get himself there the last few weeks too.

Our halves couldn't setup a **** in a brothel but it's all on our centre for a bad call in defence... Pretty sure most of the team had a bludger out there for the majority of the game. How many more of these threads is some drop kick going to start up? You could at least dig up the last one and resurrect that, that everyone can just quote the same tired Bull they yelled last time instead of giving it another go from scratch.

Sack Croker...

Post by LastRaider »

Yeah next year Cotric has to move to his position and Croker needs to move to wing if he is to stay a part of the team.

Croker has been poor now since 2017 and now his kicking is dropping off, he isn’t bringing much to the team.

He is a dead set liability! I said two seasons ago we will never win a premiership with him in the centres. The fact NSW would bring a guy like Morris out of retirement ahead of picking Croker shows what anyone not wearing green googles thinks of his abilities.

People seem to love him for his individual stats- well I’ll wager no one has captained a raiders team to more losses than he has!

Get rid of him and do it soon. I’m happy to find a centre pairing out of Kris, Cotric and Oldfield.

Sorry but really?? Really??
The club is in fifth place despite a crippling injury toll and rep duties unlike we have seen for a long time.
As a team we are defending better than we have for years (average improvement of over 7 pts according to Fox last night) and your solution is sack the second leading point scorer, our (only) captain??? For who?! Another rookie plucked from who knows where? Like they will do a better job?? Come on.
I understand frustration with toots. He has limitations like all players do. But overall what he brings to the team in terms of points, experience, leadership and attitude is far far ahead of what we would get from any reserve grade top 30 player mid season or rookie with promise.
We are in the top 5 for the first time in 4 years. Enjoy it; understand the ups and downs and support this team and blokes like Croker who have been there, loyal and committed to the club through some absolute horrendous times and who like all players have deficiencies and limitations.

Disagree- players step up when giving a chance. Look at the depth of fullbacks Storm have since Slater retired. They didn’t buy Tedesco they gave young blokes a chance. I’m glad we didn’t wait till we had established front rowers to replace Paulo and Boyd. You move them on and find Hors and Young. We can continue this stupid quest to help Croker achieve individual records or be smart and move him on and develop a real centre with a proper body and NRL level skills.

He was centre in the statistically best defensive edge in the competition in 2016 and that was playing with Edrick Lee outside him. He is out of form but he has shown he can defend very well.

This is the GH. We need a regular 'Sack [insert name]' thread. Everybody is bored with the Sezer/Williams argument. With so many players out Croker is the next obvious target.

I tell you what though, he needs to fix his defence by finals time otherwise that is where we will lose the game

That's absolutely right. The same way people used to say he should be kept because he isn't a rat bag. The truth is if Croker walked down Main St belting people left right and centre there wouldn't be a pile up of clubs looking to rehabilate him, he'd be off to the ESL with a 50% pay cut.

To that point he is a great ambassador and representative of the club. He's the ultimate professional from what we see. I'd be inclined to keep him around. More than happy for him to get first dibs on the left wing spot next year if his form doesn't improve.

I couldn't believe some likely Origin teams had Mbye as an option in the 14. He's living off reputation although I have no idea how he got this reputation in the first place.

I just assumed Milford would get the spot. We'll see how he goes then - he has never stood out to me at club level.

What a silly thread.

I have said before that Croker is not a rep level centre, but he is very solid and reliable at NRL level. He is a little out of form at the moment, but he has enough runs on the board to get back into form in first grade. In that last play from the Dogs last night - you can see him sprinting across from the left side to try and make a tackle on the opposite side of the ground.

Not only that - he was literally the last person to leave the ground last night. It was crazy - we were finishing our beers and watching him, he want to every single Raiders fan and left the ground around 45 minutes after full time. Such a good bloke.
