Injury cover
With the great news that Bateman is back sooner rather than later, I’m interested to hear who people think are the three key players we can least afford to get injured going forward. Obviously Bateman is a star but in fairness we covered him pretty well. It would be horrible to lose him or Whitehead but not necessarily season ending for us in my view. I think my top three would be:
1. Hodgo - so much runs off him. Havilli is good cover but we lose too much.
2. Wighton - I can’t see us winning a premiership with Sezer and Williams in the halves.
3. Papa - there is front row cover but losing Papa would make things tough.
I feel like we have reasonable wing cover, CKN is becoming a key but Raps can cover there if he falls over.

Re: Injury cover
I actually think we are a lot better placed to cover injuries and suspension than we have been in previous years.
Losing players are a given and champion teams have an ability to replace a suspended Lomax with a more than handy Paul Osbourne in a GF.
I think raiders are well placed with only concern in a couple of areas for me and that’s why I’m curious to see what others think.

Re: Injury cover
Our depth is solid right now. Decent talent with flexibility means we have multiple options for all positions. Fact is though the more injuries you get the more you depth is tested. NRL squads are a finite commodity.

I think so as well, which is a MAJOR departure from where I thought we were in the preseason.Billy Walker wrote: ↑May 23, 2019, 11:25 am I actually think we are a lot better placed to cover injuries and suspension than we have been in previous years.

Bateman, Sutton, CNK, Horsburgh, and Young haver all turned out to be guns, meaning players like Murchie, Guler, Bateman V1, Collins, Oldfield and Simmonsen are more than capable of filling in when required.
At the start of the year I though our front row stocks were thin
Re: Injury cover
Haha. I had the exact same response! Perish the thought
Re: Injury cover
I thought the discussion was going to be what areas do we require depth in. I think we still have our number 30 position on our roster to fill. What position should fill that spot?
Re: Injury cover
It's the Wighton and Hodgson. We dont have a good back up hooker option who can play LONG minutes at the position and our halves are bad enough as is, we're already engaged in a civil war over who sucks more between Sezer and Williams, having them both in the line would be problematic
and frankly there are VERY few clubs that have good depth in those positions
Elsewhere i feel comfortable with our squad depth, it's a nice blend of vets like JJ Felise and Oldfield, and young guys looking to break in. Lots of versatility too

Re: Injury cover
That was my feeling as well. Wouldn’t like to see anyone injured or suspended but can cover most but a loss at 9 or the halves would possibly stretch us too much.PigRickman wrote: ↑May 23, 2019, 12:56 pm It's the Wighton and Hodgson. If we were looking likely at the back end of the season and did cop a loss at 9 or in the halves do we have to make do with what we have or is there scope to release a player and buy in a replacement? Is that why spot 30 remains free?

Gee it would be nice to see the ricks and simo just have a nice open discussion about these things instead of trying to silence the people.
1. Hodgo
2. Wighton
3. Papalii
Especially those first 2.

Stop yelling.
Re: Injury cover
Think of the children..
But seriously Havilli proved he was capable last year replacing Hodgo, just isn't as dynamic
Sezer can easily replace Wighton if he goes down, but we will lose a lot with Jack's D and running game
Papa's the main one, we'll lose a lot of our grunt and probably get destroyed in the metres game

Re: Injury cover
Not sure I’m responsible for Hodgo’s injury.
Perhaps Ricky would have been lost at the selection table this week if he didn’t read this thread and ramp up the contingency planning last week.
