It has been discussed in a couple of other topics so I'd like to know the opinion of 'The Greenhouse' on our best backrow configuration when at full strength.
I meant to put 'Other (specify)'.

Re: 11, 12, 13
Tapine and Whitehead in the second row, Bateman at lock.
I want Sutton in starting prop as well as part of that deal.

11 whitehead 12 bateman 13 sutton
Tapine on the bench coming on at around the 25 mark for sutton and pushing bateman to lock

Sutton into the front row rotation, Baeteman and Tapine on the edges, Whitehead at lock for me.
Starting pack - 8. Papalii 9. Hodgson 10. Sutton 11. Bateman 12. Tapine 13. Whitehead
*not fussed about sides for the edge players, figure out who's ideally suited to which and make it so... and i guess by that i mean which side is Tapine best at because i think JB can play either side as effectively.

There really doesnt seem to be any glaringly wrong answer to this which is testament to the quality of these players.

My biggest issue is that i just really dont like tapine next to williams in defence

I love it, I think Lui would be good as an impact player off the benchPigRickman wrote:Sutton into the front row rotation, Baeteman and Tapine on the edges, Whitehead at lock for me.

Yeah that's a pretty fair point and one i hadnt considered. Bateman and Whitehead are good foils for him on that front, because their motors are so good.
You're also right in that, this is a poll about which is the best answer, where the problem really doesnt have bad ones... how to get Tapine, Whitehead, Sutton and JB into the line up is a first world sporting problem to have.

Bateman has to be lock. Such an advantage to have him roaming both sides of the ruck in attack and strengthening our middle defence.

I think the coaches probably agree with you. And like someone said above the good thing is there probably isn't a 'wrong' answer.

That was my reasoning in the other thread too. His work in the middle actually eases the pressure on the fringes.

Re: 11, 12, 13
I'd have Tapine at second row at least to start with but if he was proving to be a liability there defensively I'd shift him
Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2019
I think Whitehead is the last of the 3 backrowers id play in the middle.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2019
Just get Tarps watching video of Tapau - solid, fast, step, offload. For me that’s the style we should be aiming at with him.
The edges get isolated more than the middle, and I’m FAR more comfortable with Whitehead and Bateman owning the edges.

For mine there is a right answer for attack and another right answer for defence.
At this stage I am going to go with defence;
- Papali
- Hodgo
- Tapine
- Whitehead
- Bateman
- Sutton
Attack is Tapine on and edge, Bateman roaming lock at Sutton at prop.

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2019
He played about 3-4 games there and was absolutely outstanding in every one of them. Weird take.
Edit: Is this a Simon Mannering issue? I can see why it might seem Simon Mannering to the middle on face value and i know you and i were both very staunchly against that.

Re: 11, 12, 13
Lock me inn for that starting side simo, but I personally hate the idea of shifting players positions mid match. Switch out Sutton and Tarps, leave the other poms on the edge.
Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2019
Whitehead was outstanding in the first one, at lock, against the Sharks... and it tailed off pretty quickly. Which is why he hasn't played lock since. He's a great player on the edge.
Re: 11, 12, 13
I would worry about Tapine and Sam's decision making together on that edge. That's going to be my deciding factor in the end. We were so good defensively for a few weeks there I'd like to get back to it. I've liked what Sutton has done at lock but he can do the same job at prop and Tapine gives us more speed, offload and attacking threat roaming around at lock than Sutton's solid hit ups- which suit prop just as well.
Lui has been playing up at higher revs this year so might be just as good coming off the bench to maintain the energy levels.
8. Papa
9. Hodgo
10. Sutton
11. Bateman
12. Whitehead
13. Tapine
14. Havili

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2019
that's not how i recall it. I thought he one our best in all his games there and that he hasnt played the middle again since because it fit best for the team. I agree he's a great edge player, and i think if circumstances required it, he'd be a great middle forward too.

I remember it the same as 'greeneyed'.
Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2019
I remember being for it last year. It worked at first and he was good. I think it just nullifies his attack too much compared to the other 2.PigRickman wrote: ↑May 21, 2019, 9:20 pmHe played about 3-4 games there and was absolutely outstanding in every one of them. Weird take.

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2019
yeah that's probably true, but i thought his ball skills around the ruck created a lot of opportunities for us. How it weighs up against JB or Tapine, yeah... im not married to either. But one thing im certain of is that if Whitehead's role required him to be a middle, he'd be very good in that role.julian87 wrote: ↑May 21, 2019, 9:32 pmI remember being for it last year. Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2019
He'd be good, but wouldn't be as good as Bateman in the role of lock. And he wouldn't be as good at lock as second row... whereas Bateman would be just as good, if not more effective for the team. IMO anyway.

I agree that of the three, Bateman is best suited to lock. I also think we lose the least that way if you weigh up all the positives and negatives.

Re: 11, 12, 13
I thought the back half of 2016 was by far his best stretch for us. The only year he has been a regular starter was last year where I think he also struggled in patches, especially with discipline.Raiders_Pat wrote: ↑May 21, 2019, 9:41 pmI know he didn't start the year in the hottest form but some people seem to have very short memories around hereRoger Kenworthy wrote: ↑May 21, 2019, 9:38 pm Tapine has played his best footy for us from the bench by quite a stretch.
