Hmmm I would have said for Young on the edge but Ricky seems like his edges to play 80 minutes.

So I guess Tapine spells Lui at prop?

Great to see Young hold his spot and hoping Tarps is under big pressure to perform and responds well.
I'd argue the opposite. On paper they're a better side

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Joe Tapine back seven weeks early to bolster Raiders

The Canberra Raiders hopes of snapping a two-week losing run is set to be bolstered by the return of Joe Tapine after the New Zealand international was named to make an early comeback from injury.

"I know we probably haven't got a couple of wins of late but our performances have been up there. There's still plenty of areas to improve on and I'm sure we will rectify some things for this week but we're just plugging away. That's one thing we've got to focus on this week, is to not feel too down on last week," Michael Oldfield said.

I think when fully match fit Tapine wears the 13 Jersey going forward.

Can't agree with this. I'm all for Tapine coming back through the middle for his first game or two or to cover for Papalii there during Origin. But at full strength he should be given first crack on the edge. He's a weapon there and I wouldn't be moving him unless form dictates otherwise.

Very surprised that Tapine is fit enough to play. Still, always good to get an International back rower back on the park. Playing from the bench so may be eased back into FG. Big body so will add some size to the side.

Well the coaches showed their hand earlier in the season with Bateman the back rower moved to the middle wearing 13 so perhaps you are right. I am just indicating my personal preference really.

Leave him there and have Bateman at lock with Sutton moving to front row and Lui to the interchange.

At full strength I prefer Tapine at second row and Bateman at lock. I see the arguments for Bateman having better lateral movement but his movement in defence in the middle of the park is also extremely valuable, it puts much less pressure on the edges.

Going position by position I’d take Lolo over Sutton and Morgan over Williams. Maybe O’Neill has Croker covered but that’s arguable. Who else would you swap? I think we have them covered most positions. I wouldn’t take Asiata over Jack or Hess over Whitehead. Cooper’s more experienced than Young but I’ll back Young to do a job. Kahu and Fedt have got nothing- Granville isn’t near Hodgo - how have they got us on paper??

Bateman was so good on the edge though. I think I'd have Tapine at lock. Sutton to front row.

Bateman is so good full stop and the fact that he's said himself that he wants to play at lock, I'd rather him play where he prefers. Tapine on an edge gives us a bit more of an attacking threat. Since we're lacking in a quality half and we lost Leilua, we need more attacking options to give us an edge against teams like the Bunnies/Roosters/Storm.

One thing I've noticed - while he was playing in the middle at the start of the year, he led our line speed well and we were really good around the ruck. Some games in recent times we've had big patches where we've been quite lazy in the ruck and given up a lot of metres. That's where I think Bateman at lock is very valuable.

He's good anywhere but I think he's such a skilful player he actually creates more attack that Tapine out there. He's got speed, he can bounce of tackles, throw a pass, kick, he's a schemer. More multifaceted than Tarps.

Tapine provides a mismatch there in a lot of matchups though

Yes but you need the ball players to set him up carefully for it. We're not good at it.
Somehow Bateman is just an oddball human mismatch all on his own.

It's a win either way though. Can't argue his energy and mobility would be good in the middle.

2 losses, must bounce back in this one, Tamololo will be a handful but the Raiders have handle big boppers well, Such as Broncs, Eels, Rabbits, Panthers

Benji Effect this week goes to.......Jake Granville, but I dont think he will be playing this week, otherwise it has to be Morgan, he is really out of form, but if the Raiders play Poorly he will DESTROY!!!

Gotta stick to our gameplan for this one. If we play like we did against Manly, the Cows will sneak up on us as they have absolutely nothing to lose.

They have a pretty decent forward pack, so if we hold them in the middle and keep our fair share of possession, we should get the W. Just gotta play as a team and ensure our two centres get plenty of ball in the attacking 30.

That's a strong team the Cowboys have named, Asiata is a sneakily good five-eighth and could cause some damage behind that forward pack. Really need a win here and it won't be easy.

In regards to the whole Bateman-Tapine thing-as long as both play we are stronger.

Boys will have to be up this week. A few out of form Queenslander's will be looking to press their clams for an Origin spot..... This could be a pretty dangerous game for us.

No, because the nrl are clearly making allowances to keep the best players in the game to play against us. Having players like jacob granville tearing us apart will mean their refs dont have to hate us as much to give the pride of the league cowboys the win

This is a vital game and a win is essential. I doubt the boys will be able to play with the same intensity as they displayed in the last 3 halves of footie against a so-called lesser team. However, NQ are no pushovers so they will need to be close to their best to come out on top. Control the 1st half and hopefully run away with it in the 2nd half.
Ricky needs to come up with better options in the op's red zone. Their red zone plays are too predictable, usually Hodgson to a flat-footed forward. The halves need to get more involved. Failing to score tries from red zone possession has been a problem for many years and maybe why we persist in taking PGs when we have attacking momentum.
It's a simple game; tackle, back-up, pass, hold the ball! What did I say? "Hold the bloody ball!!"

PG's are being taken by all teams more often this year- probably as a result of the glut of red zone penalties teams are willing to give away. Interesting to see if the crackdown Annesley hinted at changes this.

I wonder how having Cotric at right centre will change up our red zone attack. It used to go something like Hodgo runs 3-4 crash balls (sometimes with an attempted run around in there) and if we go left, it is a structured sweep play and if we go right its just give it BJ, often flat footed and see what happens.

I rewatched the Parra game the other day- our red zone play stunk. We had about 20 sets and the two we scored off were a Hodgo to Papa crash ball and a Hodgo kick into the legs that bounced out for Whitehead to soccer on and score. The other one we should have was Jack tore them open on the left, slices in to score and somehow puts in down on (Gutho's?) foot for a no try instead. Hodgo seems more willing to use Jack now and our red zone is a little bit better.

We can get an extra go in with our edges if Hodgo does his little run around as an eyes up play- it gets us across the other side of the park after one edge has had a go and if Whitehead or Tapine etc run an inside line off it then it's a threat in itself if he decides the runner is on.
