How can you say that? We have been beaten by every side above us on the ladder as well as Manly. With every loss pressure mounts and other teams take heart. Ricky's tactics need to be carefully examined!
It's a simple game; tackle, back-up, pass, hold the ball! What did I say? "Hold the bloody ball!!"

My understanding is it is part of the arrangements which give the media more access to players in the sheds post match.

Fantastic effort from the Raiders - I’m feeling good about this season. A lot of solid performances across the park but if we could teach someone else to play back up dummy half I’m happy to punt Havilli. Too many errors in him and he doesn’t offer enough.

The sort of game that could have gone our way with a bit of luck. For me I'm still really liking what I see from our boys and think there's a lot more positives than negatives in a performance like that. The draw is very favourable for us now until August, and with origin coming into the picture if we can keep producing performances like that in this period we will be in a very good position indeed coming into the end of the season.

He was outstanding - some real goers in that pack. Tarps might struggle to get his jumper back

I respectfully disagree, Havilli is excellent backing up, has a mean offload, can get down as a dummy half, and as far as effort goes he seems to be making a lot of post contact meters. Hes about as good a back up dummy half/ running back rower as you could possibly hope for. He also has what looks like excellent post contact meters.

This is absolute garbage! There’s been nothing wrong with Ricky‘s tactics in 2019, and we’ve gone pretty well against the best teams in the comp. If we keep playing the way we’ve been playing when it comes to the finals we’re going to be all right. In every game against the “better teams” we’ve absolutely can pay that and if we had kept their heads about us we probably would’ve won so there’s nothing to really be too worried about just Gotta keep a heads up and play that I was playing and I think we’re going to be a big shot count. And and finish stop dictation how do we stop this stop it stop stop stop dictating. Really needed to get the 2 points tonight instead of taking away a moral victory, given the quality of players we are missing a loss was always the realistic result but its still disappointing.
Except we're not falling down the ladder at all. Unless Manly win by 47 tomorrow (which isn't happening) or Cronulla win by 60 (which isn't happening) we'll still be 4th after this rd. With the cows and the dogs to come. Replicate tonight's effort we'll win both those games comfortably. That's the challenge. We keep replicating that desire and effort we'll be fine.

I was very proud of the performance of the Raiders against Souths. Both sides down on players but what a tough, tenacious effort from both teams. The Raiders are now a 'hard to beat' side. I've been waiting years for such a squad to be developed. Things didn't go our way at a couple of crucial times. One was near the end of the game when JC was stripped of the ball. That's footy.

The other is something I will have a rant about. Papa is going for the line after a 'Hulk' run at the line only to be stopped by the goal posts from scoring a certain try. Since the time we have abolished touching the corner post as being out, it has always amazed me that we didn't remove the goal posts from the field of play. There is no other place on the field where the players don't get to decide the outcome of matches. Goal posts are a target for field goals and penalties and conversions. Imo they should not be determining whether tries are scored or not. We have tactical kickers aiming for them to hinder the defence. We have goal posts acting as immovable defenders. Why isn't the skill level of the players enough to decide matches? Why do we need fixed objects affecting a fluid game? Get them beyond the dead ball line and allow the players to determine the outcome of matches. Rant over.

The test for the Raiders is to be up for next week. Even more than the last two weeks, how we back up will determine our seasons' future imo. Replicate the form of the past 120 minutes of footy and we will go well. The good news is we have another home match and a full 7 day turn around before we face the Cowboys.

I'm loving this club more and more every day after watching performances like that.

We are on track people..

If that intensity and attitude remains..all will be ok.

Special mention to Hudson Young and Corey Horsburgh..

I'm not too concerned about the result. We were in it and didn't take some chances.

It's the bully attitude I'm loving, these 2019 Raiders are a new beast...

pickles wrote: May 18, 2019, 10:23 pm I absolutely loved the way we played our footy tonight. Key players out and everyone ripped in 100%. We’ve made it through the hard part of the draw and need to make it count over the next 4-5 weeks and if we can reproduce that effort we will win most of them.

I am hoping that this experience at this time of the season will only make us hungrier and harder and give us the grit and determination we need to get the wins when it matters at the end of the season.

I hope the team feels the loss but holds their heads high. We are in the mix this year.
Yep. We are definitely in the mix and we were a bit unlucky (paps and croker both could have scored). Only thing that annoyed me a bit was the two 7 tackle sets we gave them (should have been 3, one bad call went our way). One was a really bad effort by Sam, just before their first try - we were rolling through them and there was no pressure on him at all. That unforced error turned the game.

The reality is that we've only won one game over the past month and it was against the worst side in the competition. We might be missing some important players but so were Manly, Roosters and now Souths and they all managed to beat us. We've reverted back to our old habit of losing close games but because of our decent start to the season it's getting overlooked, we are not that good and can still easily miss the finals if we don't turn it around quickly.

What a game , semi-final quality feel to it. Both teams played well. Some tough defence .

Sometimes you can play well and not win , that was one of those games.

Hudson Young , this guy has a big future , great performance. That hit late in the game to stop their forward dead cold was just brilliant and he took it to Sammy as did Horsburgh. On Sammy I can not understand how he didnt get binned.

I absolutely love CNK. This guy has heart and skill.

We need to repeat that performance in every game , we do that we win 99% of them

His dropped ball last night frustrated me but yeah that happens I guess. If Tarps and Bateman come back into that pack, two player need to drop back to the bench and two others need to shuffle out of the 17. It’s fair to think Kris will miss out but after that I’m loving what Young and the Horse are throwing up. Hodgo has shown you’d struggle to stop him with a shovel so I don’t think we need a specialist back up on the bench for him. Nice problem to have I guess. I’m loving how the team is shaping up. Seems odd to be so excited after 2 loses but I couldn’t be happier with how we are shaping up.

That is tough. Whitehead goes back to the left .

Sutton has been great and punching out big minutes in the 13 but you have to have Taps back in the team. So Im not sure if Bateman or Taps plays 13 or right side.

So Im pushing Young and Sutton back to the bench

Issue we have and its a good issue is that we have so many players that can play big minutes

Papa was huge last night and has been all season. Lui was great. He put on the two biggest shots of the game. Young was not far behind him. That hit on the line to stop a try was unreal. I’m loving the Horse. He was lucky early not to come up with a few drop balls but I loved his battle with Burges. I think it will be on the back of these young blokes that he go to the next level. We did well when a 19 year old Brad Clyde took over from a legend Dean Lance. I wouldn’t be surprised if Young and/or Horsburgh is in the 17 ahead of a more fancied player come September

Havili or Lui for me, and that’s a very tough call on either of them, as they have both been showing up this year.

With complete honestly, I Think Tarps will need to watch himself, his peak is unbelievably high, but with this much depth he needs to show it more often.

I said a number of times early in the year that signing Bateman meant I thought we were spending far too much in our backrow players - with Young developing like he is, I think we have X1 too many. Sutton owns the 13, Bateman and Smelly in the edges, Young would be great on the bench at low cost, so unless Tarps goes to the middle and starts with Pappa, I’m not sure where you put him.

I agree - Tarps’ best is very very good but I haven’t seen it for a while. His discipline can let him down at times. If Lui continues to play like he did last night I can’t see how we could drop him. I suspect it will either be the horse or young that drop out but if it were me I’d drop Havilli and be telling Tarps he needs to show a lot of he’ll be running onto balls off Sezer.

Good game of football, but the difference between us and the good teams above us is that when the opportunity presents itself, they take it. Two weeks in a row we have not been able to nail the clutch play when we need to. :hmmm

I’m not going to read the gameday thread until tomorrow sometime because it’s probably filled with bitching and complaining and blaming of the referees, but as raiders fans, we should all hold our heads up high

This team is finals bound, and destined for great things

How can you say that? We have been beaten by every side above us on the ladder as well as Manly. With every loss pressure mounts and other teams take heart. Ricky's tactics need to be carefully examined!
I don’t know I have I have a stop it stop it stop **** weird stop **** stop recording **** technology is taking over on us than you are

" we’ve gone pretty well against the best teams in the comp " is not winning. As Hodgson said on radio 106.3 after the game when the interviewer said "the Raiders' went close"; "being close is not going to win games". The Raiders lack someone who can step-up an win close games. When we got possession in the red zone last night with minutes to go, no one took effective control.
It's a simple game; tackle, back-up, pass, hold the ball! What did I say? "Hold the bloody ball!!"

I’m not sure you go from a bog average team to a genuine contender with the flick of a switch. Think of what we were serving up last year and consider how we are building this year. Agree we still seem a touch of Storm, Rooters and Bunnies but it’s a bee’s pecker and we are coming hard. Week on week seeing huge improvements across the park. A lot has been said about the pack but I thought Oldfield was great last night. Simmonsen was good Cotric showed great potential at centre and CKN continues to get better. Williams had a great game against quality halves and Jack hasn’t had a clanger in 3 weeks. There is a lot of room for growth in the team - continue like this and we are looking very good come September

We need to repeat that performance in every game , we do that we win 99% of them
100% agree with you LGM - brilliant performance and loved Young and the Horse. Can I ask you a tough one - If Bateman and Tarps are fit who shuffles out - Kris and ??
That is tough. Whitehead goes back to the left .

Sutton has been great and punching out big minutes in the 13 but you have to have Taps back in the team. So Im not sure if Bateman or Taps plays 13 or right side.

So Im pushing Young and Sutton back to the bench

Issue we have and its a good issue is that we have so many players that can play big minutes
Taps to the bench for mine. Sutton stay at 13 and Bateman to 11 and Whitehead at 12.

Bench would then be
Havilii
Sia
Tarps
Horse and Young (Horse plays against the big forward packs and Young comes in against the more agile packs)

But picking a mediocre at best 20 year old reserve grade centre and playing him at lock for the last 10 when behind is beyond reaching. I understand Simonsson was probably ducked from the dirty work and that there’s a few injuries. But that is boneheaded and lucky if it does ever ever come off. If you don’t have the player to do it you pick an extra forward.
Yeah I can't stand the outside back on the bench thing.

I agree and it's the point I've been making. There are some real whingers around here, but I get it - years of mediocrity makes it hard to be hopeful. But I feel pretty upbeat, given that even compared to the Storm game in round 2 you can see the improvement, and it's a young team with a way to go. The Roosters themselves were playing pretty average beginning of last season, and then came good later in the year. Things take a bit of time to gel.
