2019 Rd 9 V Roosters: Game Day

Re: 2019 Rd 9 V Roosters: Game Day
It’s genuinely remarkable to me that people can see the JWH tackle and be like “finally! A penalty!” And then minutes later say the refs have got it in for us because of the Oldfield tackles
It encapsulates perfectly why I think you’re just **** ****

If Easts score first we will cop a hiding. I can see the headlines now:
Brave 14 man Roosters Smash Illdisciplined Raiders

We’re 18 behind a side that still has Cronk, Keary and Tedesco. It’s no cakewalk
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.

Re: 2019 Rd 9 V Roosters: Game Day
Pretty awful half of football from the Raiders and the refs.
They are missing an entire edge though so this game isn't cooked if we can turn things around. Lots of motivation for Croker and perhaps even Wighton with the left centre position almost certainly vacant.

We’ve got to fix the **** discipline in the second half.
We’ve dropped the ball on attack and conceded enough penalties that they should be up by 50. We are somehow still in this and they’re down to one reserve and have backrowers in the centres. Just hold the bloody ball and play smart footy.

You’re making too much sense Piggy - but it doesn’t fit into the narrative that everyone hates the raiders...PigRickman wrote: ↑May 12, 2019, 3:05 pmNothing. Oldy could do nothing, just as JWH. It’s no illegal but since McKinnon they’re going to call anything like that. Right or wrong, they call it time and time again. Whether you think that’s right doesn’t matter, they are consistent with it

Re: 2019 Rd 9 V Roosters: Game Day
I don't think either JWH/Oldfield tackles should have been penalties. Sometimes players just accidentally end up in awkward positions. The bad ones are where players are grab from behind and the tackler will just drop to the ground cranking the attackers head forward.

If we fix our discipline, up the tempo, we should win this, the horse and Hudson are first grade standard. Love their work.

Other teams should start to fear us now, how many stars have we taken out this year ? I love the hardness from this team

Exactly. Unless there was some indication of intent or negligence penalising it achieves nothing.gergreg wrote: ↑May 12, 2019, 3:11 pm I don't think either JWH/Oldfield tackles should have been penalties. I’m not one to whinge about the refs. But my gosh, that first 20 left me wondering what they were doing. I don’t have any qualms with the try’s but during regular play has been abysmal.

I think the onus needs to be on the tacklers to make every effort to avoid putting a player in that position. Agree no intent in either tackle but comfortable with both being penalisedgergreg wrote: ↑May 12, 2019, 3:11 pm I don't think either JWH/Oldfield tackles should have been penalties. There is an 'awkward' looking tackle every second set.edwahu wrote:Exactly. Aim the attack at those forwards sitting out wide. Take advantage of that.
Tighten up the d in the middle and get some discipline back.
Sting in defence, trust each other.
We are not done here but we need to be heaps smarter...

I’d prefer them both to be let go, but that’s just a preference. And I can see why they go the other way re: player safety
Ultimately all I care about is do they call it consistently. And in this case they do, and the incidents like Bj’s a few weeks ago are rare

Geez CNK continues to improve - really does the hard stuff well but would love to see him ball in hand in open field a bit more.

Raiders out on the field. Now the Roosters. Roosters kick off. Back underway.

Re: 2019 Rd 9 V Roosters: Game Day
I know where you are coming from and I think both were correct calls. It’s just that there were two others on CNK and H Young as well that weren’t called.PigRickman wrote:It’s genuinely remarkable to me that people can see the JWH tackle and be like “finally! But surely even you would have some concerns at the referee Sutton’s inconsistency today. He’s unhappy the Raiders formally complained about his performance at Brookvale and he’s showing who makes the decision.
Also, Have you ever seen him talk to two players at once about a decision. Don’t know why he picks today to suddenly apply this ruling.

Re: 2019 Rd 9 V Roosters: Game Day
Aside from the the problem the 2 Suttons are causing us we have not come to the game with a defenCe mindset. Simple mistakes 2 out of the 3 times we have been in the Roosters red zone are unforgivable. However, we have taken 2 off their best players out of the game so with more thought and commitment we may still pull this out of the fire !
It's a simple game; tackle, back-up, pass, hold the ball! What did I say? "Hold the bloody ball!!"
