You’d expect most teams to beat a half-less Titans, however I was pleased with keeping it to 0 and the game management by the playmakers at the end

I know that there are much tougher opponents to come and it is early days but in my opinion that was the most professional performance from the Raiders in at least 2 years.

Re: 2019 Rd 1 V Titans: Game Day
Woo! Good to get a win first up, doesn't happen often for us.
First time we've kept a team to nil in six years, if the Fox commentators are to be believed. Quite happy with the defense, could be a little critical of all the dropped ball but there was a lot of rain.
Melbourne next week, wonder how that'll go...

Couldn’t agree more, Azza. In simply awful conditions they looked completely professional and very well polished, carrying on from all the positive stuff they’ve done in the off seasonAzza wrote:I know that there are much tougher opponents to come and it is early days but in my opinion that was the most professional performance from the Raiders in at least 2 years.

Re: 2019 Rd 1 V Titans: Game Day
I am happy with that performance.
I'm not getting carried away here, we beat a 8-16 team sans it's first choice halves.
BUT.
It was pouring rain.
We had 5 debutantes. 2 of which I hope never see FG again.
J Bateman looks good. Very good. I'm a fan.
Horsburgh showed enough. Here's a future star.
CNK and Simmonsen are ok. Here is Milne and Purtell.
Loved we kept them to nil.
Hodgo was amazing.
Jack has a great long kicking game but nil short.
Sezer.....he just has to do better. That was mounties level.
Papalii is a beast.
Smelly is a legend.
Croker was good.
Ned was quite but still class. Ditto Tarps.
We've got a way to go but I'm just enjoying this moment.

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Immediately obvious what the mobile workhorse forwards/strong outside backs combo gives us... compared to the last few years
Re: 2019 Rd 1 V Titans: Game Day
Dubby, you hope 3 of our debutants never see first grade again? You can’t be serious. Besides Bateman, I’m struggling to figure out which 3 you think we’d be better off dumping and for who next week?

Re: 2019 Rd 1 V Titans: Game Day
The defense was amazing ( admittedly they had essentially both halves missing but can only play what’s in front of you )
Papalii and Sia were awesome
Bateman looked more then solid, very very happy with this signing
CNK looked the goods especially with his defensive positioning
Sezer and wightons kicking game was extremely impressive ( kicking to corners controlling the game ) as was the kick chase which twice forced drop outs from croker and BJ making massive efforts.
The fatigue and defensive work looks the goods on the back even that they thought of the 1 point with 6 min to go.
Take away the first 15min of the second half which the whole game turned sloppy ( conditions based obviously ) was very very impressive

I wasn’t happy with Sezer through the middle 40 minutes, but he was really controlled through the last 20 and well supported by Wighton and Hodgson in controlling the end of the game.

Re: 2019 Rd 1 V Titans: Game Day
I'm reserving the excellent mostly because I'm not entirely convinced that all of our ball-handling problems were due to the conditions, but that's certainly up there with one of our best-fought games of the last five years. The Rickman wrote: ↑March 17, 2019, 7:08 pmI would honestly say excellent, considering that score, and those conditionsraiderskater wrote:Well that was...I mean, I won't say excellent, but there was a lot to like.

Re: 2019 Rd 1 V Titans: Game Day
Yeah...give this trio time to click...and I might even be sold on the switch up.
I did about lose my **** when Sezer put in the long touchfinder...and then Wighton did too...and then Hodgson with the deep kick that led to a repeat set...then we kicked a field goal...I was losing my mind a bit.
But best of all, we looked calm and collected (mostly) and didn't freak out when the clock hit 70 minutes.

Bulldogs and Titans will be looking each other up in the schedule, to see where their W is going to come from this season
Re: 2019 Rd 1 V Titans: Game Day
The defense from the halves should get a wrap. They were both really good. Its much easier for the team to play and not get gassed if the edges aren't leaking.
I have to say that I was very impressed by Joeys temperament

Re: 2019 Rd 1 V Titans: Game Day
Can’t really criticize any player at all.
Probably won’t be mentioned much but I thought Simonsson did a very, very good job. No mistakes, rolled his sleeves up and great finish for the try. I was very worried about him in first grade at this point but his first game he couldn’t have done any better imo.

well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.
Re: 2019 Rd 1 V Titans: Game Day
I know his name is mud here right now and he'll need to string together a few more games in a row to get out of the bad books, but im genuinely surprised Sezer is getting flak here.
His first half was average, but his second half was REALLY strong and this isnt the sort of games halves shine in.
I thought both he and Jack did extremely well. They played to the conditions, tackled their **** off, they had some bad moments but over all they had more good than bad.
Also he nutted that FG haha
