Sam Williams on ABC Canberra Grandstand after 11am

Post by greeneyed »

Don't forget ABC Radio Canberra Grandstand with Brett McKay Saturday after 11am Saturday. You can listen live: http://www.abc.net.au/canberra

You can SMS the program with Raiders comments and questions on 0467 922 666.

Or you can call on 1300 681 666 (at the cost of a local call).

Or send him a tweet @BMcSport on twitter.

Sam Williams will comment on how he feels about rugby league’s off field woes. It’s a pre recorded interview... so it might not be much.

Sam Williams interview

Really frustrating as a player, having such negative portrayals of NRL players, disappointing that as an NRL player could be perceived as a grub. As a game we need to get on top of it, something's got to give, its disappointing, I know what we've got here, we can look at ourselves in the mirror and know we're good people.

We're one of the first eras of professional sportspeople with social media and phone cameras. If you share something, it's going to get out. Hopefully the penny will drop.

But a very good point though. It must be tough for someone like Sam who is such a quality person but be thrown in the same boat as a heap of rat bags.

Sammy is a top fellow. I’ve had the chance to have a chat to him at a couple of the Qld Members functions and you couldn’t meet a nicer bloke. He’s a credit to himself and the club.

He really is. I know some Cooma people who know Sam and his family well since he was a boy. He's always been a good egg.

Every time I've met him, I've come away thinking that he's a top bloke.

Yeah, I met him in Auckland before the 9s a few years back when he’d just come back to the club the first time, and he was a really nice bloke

He’s a top bloke is Sam.
At the members night in Sydney last year he was so good with his time with my son. He took him into the players massage room, meal room etc and just showed him around and took the time to ask him about his footy etc. A great bloke and the type of guy you’re happy to have you son see as a role model. If he gets a chance this year I hope he can take it.

In some ways sam burgess was right , nrl players as a whole are better behaved then 10 years ago.
And i have had multiple players from our club stop and say hi at away games and in public if i have had a raiders shirt on

Problem is the 10-15% who do the wrong thing do worse crimes then 10 years ago and don't learn.

And the NRL have rewarded these players. Why isn't sia the face of the 2019 season? Or another player who is squeaky clean?

Instead every year the guys with the best redemption story get all the glamour jobs

Even post footy career the majority of the players in the media are bad boys
