2019 Fans' Choice Player of the Year



The Fans' Choice Player of the Year has been awarded since 2004 with an impressive roll call of winners, including Ruben Wiki, Alan Tongue, Terry Campese, Shaun Fensom, Jarrod Croker, Josh Hodgson, Jordan Rapana and Nick Cotric. Josh Papalii won the award for the second time in 2018. An individual trophy, sponsored by The Greenhouse, is presented to the winning player at season's end.

We have built a great tradition with this award at The GH, and you can be part of it!

Who will be the winner in 2019? It is you who will decide!

In the Fans' Choice Player of the Year, you can register your votes here for the top performed Raiders player, on a 3-2-1 basis. The rules are you can only allocate 6 points or less each round, and can split them any way you like, but no "half" points are permitted and no player can be awarded more than 3 points.

So, you can give the best player 3 points, the second best 2 and the third best 1, in the traditional way. Or you can give two players 3 points each. Or you can give 3 players 2 points each etc. No half points are permitted.

At sometime after Tuesday each week, all the points awarded by everyone to each player each round will be aggregated and then the top three players will be awarded 3, 2, 1 points.

Only votes made by Raiders fans in posts on this thread on The Greenhouse and in response to the post on The Greenhouse Facebook Group will count.

In this thread, feel free to speculate on who will be the player of the round prior to the match.

But 3-2-1 votes can only be made AFTER completion of the match in this thread.

3. Jack Wighton: if there were any doubts about Jack’s shift to the halves, he quashed them pretty quickly. Anyone EDIT can easily see that extra defence and enthusiasm in the frontline is a massive bonus to the whole team’s attitude and structure

2. Josh Bateman: boy, he came with a huge wrap, but didn’t he deliver! You’d have to be EDIT to not think this guy is going to make a massive different to our pack, and our team, and propel us headfirst into the finals in 2019

1. Josh Papalii: while EDIT were lamenting our loss of size up front, those with confidence in our coach new that guys like Paps and Soliola could take the fight to any pack in the compl and our big boy Josh certainly didn’t prove us wrong tonight!

This was a forward battle, and i think Papalii dominated the middle. He was tremendous IMO.
Hodgson was brilliant in the conditions, and Bateman was superb.

3. Bateman - Colossal performance from a guy who has never played in the NRL before and didn't play a trial.
2. Papalii - Strong up front.
1. Jackie Boi - Went pretty good. Looked like a 5/8.

Honourable mentions:

Hodgson - Good involvement and control.
The Horse - Made some mistakes, but like Bateman, had really good involvement and impact while on.
CNK - Not sure he's the right guy to play FB long-term, but did his job tonight.
