Majority on NRL players shift positions during their career. Prop or lock is definitely the best spot for both Papa and Sia at this stage of their career.Canberra Milk wrote: ↑March 12, 2019, 4:02 pm A clunky looking team to me, for the obvious reasons:It could work, you never know with sport, but I'm not sold. Jury out on whether CNK is a winger or not- again, most (I have not stats on that but at least half I can think of) NRL fullbacks come into the team first as a winger..
Halves- that is the big risk. Not sure what makes Sezer a 5/8? It's not his running game.

Also, Sia Soliola hasn't been a secondrower for about the last three decades.

Due to necessity, an over abundance of second rowersThe Rickman wrote: ↑March 12, 2019, 4:15 pm Also, Sia Soliola hasn't been a secondrower for about the last three decades.
I specifically mean that they play better elsewhere. With the exception of CNK perhaps, I haven't seen enough. Papa had a big year at lock. But prop and lock are not the same thing. Nobody would seriously consider playing Taumololo at prop for example. Elliott Whitehead spent time there but could no way play prop. If you have one traditional "battering ram" prop then maybe the second can have more flexibility to vary they game, but two non-typical props, I'm very hesitantMajority on NRL players shift positions during their career. Prop or lock is definitely the best spot for both Papa and Sia at this stage of their career.
Sezer yeah well that's a long and tired debate. I certainly wouldn't have him as the only/chief playmaker and in that sense not a 7 to me

Re: 2019 Rd 1 V Titans: Teams and Previews *Teams p1*
Anyway most of the defensive blame last year was on Boyd/Paulo (too big, create defensive issues from outside men having to cover their slow lateral movement... also tired too quick and run out of puff, hence the fading at end of games) and Austin (can't tackle/defend)
In theory both problems are solved
We'll be a bottom-of-the-8 team at best I think, managing my expectations in advance

Josh Papalii props up Raiders pack for Shannon Boyd showdown
Canberra Raiders star Josh Papalii will line up in the front-row for the first time in four years as he looks to deliver on added expectation in a showdown with Shannon Boyd.
"It’s a massive challenge for our forward pack, not being as big as previous years. In saying that, we have picked up some international players in [John Bateman] and [Ryan Sutton] from England. I can’t wait to go out there and watch the boys play in the lime green jersey and hopefully do well."

Very happy with that side. Going to be a huge test for our forwards but I think if we can match them in the middle we will be able to score points against their edges.
Big congratulations to Horsburg for beating out a very competitive field for the last spot in the 17.

8 current International Rep players, not including former rep player in Sia and the injured Rapana, thats a pretty good team.

Five new faces poised for Canberra Raiders debut
Rick Horsburgh may well have dropped the phone when his son Corey rang to talk footy and casually revealed he is one of five new faces poised to make a Canberra Raiders debut in their season opener.
"I think my dad would be more excited than me, he loves it that much. It will be really special for my family," Horsburgh said. "He played a bit of footy growing up, he says he went alright but I never got to watch him. I ring my dad probably once a week and footy is all he wants to talk about. He loves it.

I wonder if this is Sticky making a statement early. Guler looked great last year, and average in the trials - this might be the message to the forward pack, ‘there is depth this year, and unless you are putting in solid work, you won’t get a look.’ For a young buck, it might be a great thing.
Re: 2019 Rd 1 V Titans: Teams and Previews *Teams p1*
First team list of the year, and Rick delivers! He’s clearly showing signs of learning from the mistakes of previous years.
Now I’m just waiting to see Horsburgh actually get off the pine - then I’ll be totally convinced of the #Rickdemption2019

Stoked Horsburgh has been named. Let's hope he gets more than 5 mins game time!
Only change id have made is to put Guler ahead of Sutton. Appreciate sentiments that Gulers trial form wasnt that great but neither was suttons imo. I just hope it doesnt adversely affect his confidence.. hold on, perish that thought.. #inrickywetrust

I guess we'll see how well they go on Sunday.

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Yeah, I like it. I’m a fan of Guler but not in the same way I was a fan of Papa after a similar number of games. I think it’s reasonable for him not to be picked if his preseason wasn’t as good as others’.Coastalraider wrote: ↑March 12, 2019, 5:50 pmI wonder if this is Sticky making a statement early. It’s great that Horsborough got the nod so that Guler, Hunt, Collins etc. all now see first grade is there for anyone who puts in - but also have the fire of thinking they’re as good or better than some of the guys ahead of them.
I’m not an anti-Luke Bateman guy but it’s refreshing to see him outside the 17.

I think that's about as good a team as we can name, but geez we're lacking size up front. The Titans forward pack is a huge strength, I don't know how we're going to be able to stop their go forward. The team looks alright, but yeah I'm a bit concerned.
"Look sorry if that came across wrong, I was just referring to the jokes we were making about all the desperate guys who chase you. Hope to catch up some time, but if not best of luck with everything."
