By the way, the program seems to have been revamped, with Brett McKay taking over the whole program, so (thankfully) it looks like it will be much more like the program that Tim Gavel ran.

Ricky Stuart interview:
Good week on the South Coast. Good to get a break from the normality of training at home, we've had four nights, great for the team to get away, wonderful place, staying at Tathra. It's good for the mentality of the players, we've lightened the load a bit this week. Good to get away together, no cliques, they all get on well. It's the closest group in five years.
The team is prepared and ready to play. It's been a hard off season, it had to be. They're prepared mentally and physically.
There are a whole lot of extra responsibilities we've put on the leadership group this year. Not just off the field, on field too. It is not just the captains, it is the senior players.
Three or four focus points, a couple in defence and attack. If we can achieve those four points, we'll be happy. We will have three preparation weeks going into the first game. We have four players from the starting 13 out injured. Now's the time for our depth players to prove themselves.
We're not going to win every close game, but we need to win the majority. We've done a lot of scenario work for those clutch moments.

Most of the close losses came from what should have been unbeatable leads. It wasn't as if we were in a grind of a game . We should have put the foot on the throat and finished the games.

Agree. There were a lot of games where we seemed to change our focus once we got a bit of a lead.LimeGreenMachine wrote: ↑February 23, 2019, 11:11 am Most of the close losses came from what should have been unbeatable leads. Interesting..... is there a bit more to this the last few years then?

I think Blake Austin would have had an influence in this regard. Not saying he was the only culprit, but there was clearly no love lost between him and BJ or with some of his actions in games we were still in, when he personally wanted to shoot for the stars only to hit the fence. The placing of a player in a power slam position clearly vertical and dangerous and an attempted chip/chase which was chipped straight to the opposition as the minutes were running down in a close game late last year spring immediately to mind. Glad his ego's gone.

Brett McKay is really good value and improving all the time. Much better than some of the other options 666 has tried.greeneyed wrote:By the way, the program seems to have been revamped, with Brett McKay taking over the whole program, so (thankfully) it looks like it will be much more like the program that Tim Gavel ran.

No he didn’t. But I think I saw Jordan Rapana on an Instagram story down here yesterday. If the injured contingent has come, they’ve come late. They were in rehab at Raiders HQ during the week.Rick wrote:Has anyone seen if BJ traveled with the team to Bega?

I went to school with Bazza. He was a Bulldogs fan. He loves league, but trends towards union now. I often wonder how that happened. But it was super league. Like a lot of people my age.BJ wrote:Brett McKay is really good value and improving all the time. The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

I remember Blake last season at the Sydney members meet and greet before the Bulldogs game and he looked like a total outcast. I felt really sorry for him I spent the most time talking to him.
