Yeah I think the strongest lineup with the current squad full strength is
1. Rapana
5. Oldfield

CNK first drop reserve to cover any injury to the backline with minimum disruption.

Other signings could possibly change this
Agree with this. Rapa would be devastating at fullback and Oldfield will score heaps outside of Leilua.

CNK does look promising though. Nice to have him and Abbey there to choose from.

The fact that he has openly come out and said he wants to play fullback indicates to me that the Raiders used that carrot to lure him across.

I think a lot of us were happy with the thought of going out and luring a young talent and give him a shot like a Caleb Aikens at Penrith. At first I thought this is what we had done but as S82 inferred it is concerning that he is 23 not 21.

He has been stuck behind the likes of RTS, Fusitua, Mamalo, "The Beast" Manu Vatuvei etc. Been a tough gig getting a run in the outside backs at Warriors lately.

So, think of him as a 22yr old with an extra yrs experience 😝

So this IS a Caleb Aikens type pick up.

Whenever he got a chance he went pretty well imo, he’s still a relative unknown and a bit of a punt but I reckon he can do a job.

Also came out of the Storm system. Played U20s there. We always talk about how good the players are from there

Canberra Raiders recruit Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad steps straight into training

It's the step that's got Jordan Rapana excited, with the Canberra Raiders winger likening new arrival Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad's footwork to Roger Tuivasa-Sheck and Kalyn Ponga.

"I got to play Cook Islands international with him so I've known Charnze for a while now," Rapana said. "A great player, absolutely massive addition to our squad. He covers anywhere in the backline. He can play at fullback. Personally I rate his footwork as another Tuivasa-Sheck, Kalyn Ponga type step, light on his feet, really good attacker, really looking forward to watching him run out in green."

I think it seems pretty likely he’ll get a crack at fullback off the bat. I think Oldfield is a great winger but I don’t know about him in the middle.

From the, admittedly limited, highlights I’ve seen of CNK the thing that I like the most are his feet and his positioning. Auckland fans seem genuinely unhappy that he’s gone, and I’ve not seen anyone who’s said they’ve seen him play a bit suggest this is a bad pickup for us, or that he’s only useful as depth.

I think he gets the ten weeks or so that Rapana is out to nail down the #1 jersey otherwise that’s where Rapana will be training when he gets back to contact work.

Pretty stupid name. Charnze.

He'll either crash or burn. Let's hope he burns.

FTR i'm not a fan of Jack at 6. Dude was horrid in his last stint in the 6.

This will be a crap season when we've got a makeshift 6 and B grade fullback.

Oh well. Worst case we send Jack to 1 and Sam 7.

Very tough post dubby... Charnze is a good name, IMO, and I don't think we should hope any player doesn't do well. He is a good young player, and seems like a good young bloke too.

One thing to add after the Fan Day today... Josh Papalii and Aidan Sezer both are credits to the club.

They are just genuinely nice people, go out of their way to say hello and be friendly, have a chat. For all the criticism Jack Wighton gets, he's another player who I've always found is genuinely friendly and goes out of his way to say hello.

Just came back from playing sport and seen my phone has been messaging itself.

I like his footwork and looks like a natural footballer who just knows where to be (where I think Jack doesn’t know where to be)

I like the signing for the competition for fullback as I really don’t like (and never have) watching Sam in defence.

I So I would do anything (including Jack at 5/8 with his poor decision making last time) to avoid him leaving his centres in a no win situation.

I would also leave whitehead on jacks side to be the ball player, and let batemen be the little terrier that he is in the middle and do a mountain of work with good line speed.

I believe this strengthens our overall squad

Charnze wouldnt be in my top 20 of bad names.
It's fine.

I'll bet some of these other cultures probably think Nicholas and David are **** trashbag names too.
The List - K.Love, Keno, Zippy's tennis angels, LA Lakers, Noah, Boozer, Lucy's horse tips, Colts, Lucy, Kevin Proctor, Dr Zaius, TR, Tinfoil hatted Gangers & Woody, anyone in Raiders HQ who can point to QBN on a map....

With Buttriss passing him the ball and a three-quarter line featuring Allwood, Tupou and Robinson to work with.

Yeah I’m not sure Wighton is going to be up for the move to 5/8th in a play making sense
But I’m also not sure his level of performance with a busted Campo and Buttriss in the spine with him is worth putting any stock into

Busted Campo isn't much different from Sezer TBH. Big upgrade from Butts to Hodgson though - hopefully that helps.

His success at 5/8, or not, is on the coach. Wighton clearly has a pretty good football brain, he has the ability to play wing, centre and has learnt the new role of fullback - pretty well considering. There is absolutely no reason he cannot adapt to 5/8. Ricky needs to let him play within his limitations and develop him.

IMO Ricky failed this aspect with Austin. Austin had a great season then Ricky tried to expand his repertoire too much, too quickly and it killed his game.

Wighton cannot be expected to lead the team around or be a tactical kicker. His kicking should be limited to hoyking it down the field, when required. He should continue to focus on the teams strengths which is good, early ball to the edges where our strike is. Our 2nd rowers are two of the best attacking weapons in the comp. Throw in BJ who is uncontainable on his day and a 1st class finisher in Cotric and I know some people don't rate him, but Croker has some great footwork if given some space/early ball. Wighton doesn't need to be a focal point.

Can Wighton do this, can he perform this role? I say yes. Can Ricky do this, can he perform his role? I really hope so, I have doubts though.

I like Wighton but I don’t think he has a good football brain at all. Can’t agree with you there.

Too often he has done the opposite of what was required in the closing minutes of a tight game.

Yeah I tend to agree. He is a very good player, but he doesn't have the football brain like Cronk, Thurston, Maloney have. These are the guys that make a good team a brilliant team. They're rare, and very valuable.

Jack Wighton is not one of these players.

My case in point was that game in the dark vs Dragons and that bloody stupid pass

Context is a wonderful thing guys. I did say he doesn't need to be a focal point, he needs to perform a particular role and I think he has the ability and nouse to pull it off. By suggesting he has a football brain I mean he is a football player first and foremost and an athlete secondary. He is lucky enough to have the athleticism to get the most out of his ability. Which is the opposite of the majority of players these days.

Again he doesn't need to be a Cronk. Our defence sucks and has for too long to dwell on. It's our Achilles and needs to be fixed. You fix your areas of weakness and play to your strengths, which I touched on earlier.

So what has your opinion on his name got to do with anything or is it just a chance for you to giggle like an 11 year old and draw some attention to yourself it might be time to grow up a little.

Back on topic thanks this is a football forum (are the cries we hear)not a name judging competition but the thing is if he scores a couple of early try’s or looks like he might be alright you will be one of the first to be sucking up his ****.

Am I allowed to take on a big time MODERATOR like that ?OH no I will be facing my punitive punishment soon enough I suppose.

It’s no wonder the forum numbers don’t grow because it’s one rule for the chosen ones and another for the commoners.

Pathetic doesn’t quite do it justice and I’d like to see you express your opinion to his family face to face because I’m betting you go to water quick smart.
