Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad says Raiders can do ‘something special’ this season

Canberra Raiders recruit Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad says his team have the belief that they can do something special this season and be a genuine premiership contender.

Gotta love CNK. I think he's already right in the mix as the best Raiders fullback since Mullins. Very early call, I know, but that's how excited I am about him and his prospects.

I agree with you GE. He has so much improvement left in his game too. And what a story given he came from the scrap heap virtually.

He's not better than Shif.

He's David Milne with more heart

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

He's absolutely not even remotely similar to David Milne. You just continue to prove how little you know about rugby league.

Schifcofske was very safe and scored a heap of points. The shuffle drove me mad! Run straight and hard! And that is what CNK does. So, yes, I think he's already challenging Schifcofske as a better fullback. And so much scope to develop further. Time will tell.

I think he's in line for third best at the moment behind Schif and, as much as it disgusts me to say this, Dugan.

Depends on which Dugan. The effort Dugan was very good. Soft serve Dugan was a liability.

CNK is actually a pretty similar player in attacking style to Milne. Game based on footwork, speed and sniffing gaps with virtually no ball play.

That being said though he’s worlds ahead. Puts his hands up for the tough stuff and you can’t even compare everything other than attacking style. Defence, safety under the kick and positioning is just different worlds.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.

I see what you mean. His ability to read and be there for a kick is outstanding. Probably the best I've seen at the club in a long time. Maybe Shif was that good.

In terms of courage and taking the hard metres on kick returns- it simply must be inspiring to play with him your team. He never jogs it back.

Hands are good- he bobbles a lot of kicks or catches them awkwardly actually but no knock ons- twice off a pass/grubber I've seen him carry/catch a ball and get it to hand by going between his legs and still not drop it in the incoming tackle.

Ballplay- yeah he's got "sticky hands". The play stops with him 90% of the time. Luckily he has some footwork and acceleration that enough of those times he's carved into a gap to make it worthwhile. We'll either accept and adjust our play to cope with that, or hope it improves.

David Milne was absolute trash defensively, he was never in position and rarely made a 1 on 1 tackle

CNK is not even in the same postcode in that respect

Dear god the days when we were arguing about whether Pelo had anything to offer as a FG'er or whether Brad Abbey was the answer if he could just put on 5 more kg...

Praise Charnze.

He's got a long way to go for mine to do for this club what Schif did
That guy CARRIED this organisation for years. CNK is a 8.5 or more / 10 in every facet of the game bar one. But it's a very important part of a fullback's game.
Im excited to see how he goes developing that last piece of the puzzle.

Yep, I'm keen to see how he goes in 2020, but he certainly has been improving every week, leading key stats, and working hard every game. #notscaredtoadmitamancrush

Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad's reveals the tough challenges in his life on his way to the Canberra Raiders No. 1 jersey

We’re a big family. I’m one of 10 siblings and there were a lot of challenges we had to go through together before I got to that moment. And 2010 was as down as it gets. That was the year my brother Tyson passed away, my mother was in prison and the rest of us left Auckland for Australia.

He’s a ripper. I agree with Piggy that I’d like to see his link pass game develop but I suspect it will. Early this year I thought he was going into contact a little high and would make 10 yards before being walked back 7 at times. I’m not seeing that in his game of late. I think he has a big work ethic and is a fast learner. He’s going to be a goodun!

Someone mentioned Matty Elliott style recruiting hoping for a Diamond in the rough...well we certainly got our Diamond!

Last year the Raiders had 10 opportunities all season to escape the ingoal. We got out once.

This year, we’ve had 9 opportunities, and got out 6 times.
