CNK has some upside, I’m not cricitizing the signing BUT... from the eye-test I remember him being rather small? Do we know if he’s a big enough body to potentially play FB? Not to mention he’s played a whopping SEVEN games in the top grade, all of them on the wing.

Nice. If Wighton ends up in the halves, I want this guy given first crack at the 1.
Though I am suspicious that perhaps that's a case of the alternative options being none too inspiring either. Either way I think it's decent use of the Rapana fund. Does this mean he can't return before round 11 or 12 even if he's fit?

Tidy signing given our lack of depth. Seen most of his games in first grade, good footwork, runs hard, certainly can do a job for us.

Ah, even better. Interested to see how that pans out. We could end up with decent depth after all.zim wrote:The rapana fund wasn't used.Jake wrote: ↑February 8, 2019, 3:24 pm Nice. If Wighton ends up in the halves, I want this guy given first crack at the 1.

I like this signing but if he was brought in to replace Wighton at FB rather than as our Rapana cover, I'm not sure it's a great move - I could be wrong if he turns out to be a great player, but we really needed to bring in a proven first-grader like Edwards if we're serious. Interested to see the club's next move in recruitment going in to the coming season but I can't say I'm all that optimistic.Jake wrote: ↑February 8, 2019, 4:08 pmAh, even better. Just imagine the raps this kid would be getting if he was a raiders Jnr and how much everyone would of been screaming to give home a go before some other club picks him up......Raiders_Pat wrote:I like this signing but if he was brought in to replace Wighton at FB rather than as our Rapana cover, I'm not sure it's a great move - I could be wrong if he turns out to be a great player, but we really needed to bring in a proven first-grader like Edwards if we're serious. Happy for him to have shot at fullback but if this is the last recruit, surely Rapa is going to be headed to number 1, once fit. Presuming Jack goes ok at 6.

Re: Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad signs two year deal with Canberra Raiders
Updated Canberra Times article well worth a read...
Canberra Raiders sign NZ Warriors outside back Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad
Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad's signing on a two-year deal is another brick in Canberra Raiders coach Ricky Stuart's plans to build a lime green defensive wall. That's the reason behind the plan to switch fullback Jack Wighton to five-eighth - provided Stuart can find a new fullback to do that defensive job as well.
The 23-year-old is an option at fullback, where Michael Oldfield, Brad Abbey and development player Bailey Simonsson have been training this pre-season. Because of Stuart's defensive mindset, Oldfield appeared to be the frontrunner before Nicoll-Klokstad's arrival on Friday.

Re: Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad signs two year deal with Canberra Raiders
I don’t mind this signing if he’s on the right money. If it doesn’t work it doesn’t work but he had decent raps as a junior and we desperately needed a fullback option.
Just on this whole subject though I think Stuart missed a trick last season not using Rapana at fullback.

well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.
Re: Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad signs two year deal with Canberra Raiders
Also I’m miffed at people suggesting Oldfield at fullback. I don’t see that being a viable option at all. I’m glad we’ve got him to start the season on the wing but he’s no NRL fullback.

At least Cappy would’ve had a good look at CNK at the Warriors and had a good look at the current Raiders squad to know where CNK would fit in and what his worth is.

Warriors fans have gone ballistic on Facebook. They are just waking up to the fact he’s been released
Re: Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad signs two year deal with Canberra Raiders
I saw him play a few games on tv and to be honest I thought he looked really good, smart, solid and dependable - may have been two years ago. Did he play against us? I reckon he may have. Has a weird face but so what.
I also like what appears to be his life standards - they may not be mine but I reckon he's a scandal-free zone!
And, I think he should be called CHuNK. Or at least the obvious anagram, which is Lord Kink Zones Catchall, a pretty fair fullback.
Perhaps Tackle Loons, Drank Zilch, is more promising. Given the circumstances.

Never heard of him.
Matt Elliott style recruitment en masse in the hope that there's a diamond in the rough. Pretty rare that a player of his age bursts through to make a huge impact in a key position. Looks like he can sniff out the tryline though.
Fair point that McFadden probably knows a bit more than me about him though.

Re: Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad signs two year deal with Canberra Raiders
The fact that he has openly come out and said he wants to play fullback indicates to me that the Raiders used that carrot to lure him across.
I think a lot of us were happy with the thought of going out and luring a young talent and give him a shot like a Caleb Aikens at Penrith. At first I thought this is what we had done but as S82 inferred it is concerning that he is 23 not 21.

7 NRL games and 7 tries, not the worst ratio I have seen. Very earlier days. I feel this is a decent pick up.
Re: Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad signs two year deal with Canberra Raiders
It's basically Abbey signing v 2.0. Which is why I think 1 year deals would be better for these guys.

Rapa was 24 and had scored five tries in five games when we signed him.

He was stuck behind some very good players at NZ. I still think Rapa is a much better option at fullback and I hope that's the plan, should none of the four names mentioned excel at number 1.

Re: Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad signs two year deal with Canberra Raiders
Yeah I think the strongest lineup with the current squad full strength is
1. Rapana
5. Oldfield
CNK first drop reserve to cover any injury to the backline with minimum disruption.
Other signings could possibly change this
