Raiders sign Jarryd Hayne's cousin
The Mole

The Raiders have signed the first cousin of former Parramatta superstar Jarryd Hayne. Josh Thompson, a rampaging 114 kilo front-rower who is still growing at 18 years of age, joined the Raiders last week. He was signed to a scholarship by the Knights at just 16 years of age two years ago, but got homesick and the deal fell through.

“He is still young and raw but the ability is there and he is a great kid,” Peter Mulholland said.

Signing some oversize 18 year old giant worked out pretty well for us so far with Emre Guler, so yeah, why not take a shot

Are we supposed to be impressed about another no name signing by saying he is Haynes’ Cousin?

Thompson was identified by former NRL and club official Alex McKinnon and Knights list manager Troy Pezet during a seven-day talent scouting trip made to Fiji last year.

“I recall two things. One, how respectful and eager he was to learn. Two, how physically he moved so well for a big teenager,” McKinnon told Daily Telegraph.

Meet rugby league's next big thing: Jarryd Hayne's 114kg, 18-year-old cousin signs an NRL contract – and he's still growing

Jarryd Hayne's giant 18-year-old cousin is set to follow in his famous relative's footsteps and make his own mark in the National Rugby League. Josh Thompson has signed a contract with the Canberra Raiders for the 2019 season. The teenager already weighs a whopping 114kg - and he's still growing, meaning he will add some serious size to the Raiders forward pack.

Im sure he will be compared to guys like Haas and Guler, same age an body type. There will be speculation that he will be the next NAS or Burgi Twin, or maybe a Kikau due to his Fiji heritage. However, right now, Id take a more athletic Dane Tilse. I mean that with no disrespect, as Im just happy with an avg solid FG prop, preferably post his droppsies.

If he’s his cousin then they should share about 12.5% of genes. Any chance he got all the football talent and none of the knobhead?

Hayne’s ‘phenomenal’ cousin towing trees as he chases Raiders NRL dream

Josh Thompson — the 18-year-old first cousin of Jarryd Hayne — has signed with the Canberra Raiders.

“If you look at his Facebook profile picture, you can see him actually towing a tree up a footy field over the Christmas break in Canberra,” Peter Mulholland said. “It was 41 degrees and he found a tree and a piece of rope and decided to do some leg work with that. He’s absolutely phenomenal.”

I'd take a Petro Civonoceva type prop any day of the week and twice on Sundays, Matt.

Any doubts I had about him having some ticka is gone in that story. Seems a driven kid. I hope we can develop him , exciting prospect.

Of course you would, me too, but Im happy setting the bar lower than an International, at solid FG prop.

He was teaching the dog to play fetch??

I'm don't care how they get the fitness levels they need, but if young blokes can improvise with the aim of improving their strength and fitness I am all for it. We have had too many Michelin Men in our Club.

You just have to look at the bloke to see that whatever he's doing is working! Initiative, determination... what's not to like? Put him in the hands of professional trainers and imagine how good he could be?
