Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2019
Can you explain how then?
You can make an assessment based on the undisputed events that occurred around the incident, which in a criminal case is very little until the trial, but regardless the standing down of the player and any punishment is linked directly to the criminal charge.
Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2019
I think this is very reasonable. The concept aligns with the Hodgo rule where the club has to roll the dice as to wether to have their injured player return before round 12 or not. The club who has the **** playing for them will have insight as to the real severity of the offence and thus which way to go re taking the relief or notEl_Capitano wrote: ↑February 26, 2019, 1:34 pm How about if while the presumption of innocence is in effect, but for good optics you have to stand player down (I.e DeBelin) you can apply for dispensation and get it, BUT if the player is found guilty they lose the cap dispensation and have to get cap compliant again (shed players) this way it’s on the player/club to judge likelihood of conviction and decide if they want to roll the dice on their players good community standing?

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2019
Yep, got that. I was disputing FROG's statement about the Hodgson Rule being proportionate to the time off the field. It isn't in any way. It's basically just a token payment. Whereas they've completely covered the entire salary in the De Belin situation.Beejay wrote: ↑February 27, 2019, 9:33 amYes but players getting injured is a clearly defined risk in professional sport. The fact they are not directly playing for the club that pays them the 'most', but are playing for their Country or State, is the part that was unfair on clubs.Ruben Daley wrote: ↑February 26, 2019, 9:48 pmBut it doesn’t work like that. If Hodgson gets injured playing for England and misses sixteen weeks (or even all season), we get $350,000 to replace our highest-paid player in arguably the most important position. That’s barely above the average wage and nowhere near enough to entice a starting hooker.
Meanwhile, the Dragons can replace De Belin like for like. Nothing stopping them from signing Jake Trjobevic, for example.
Standing down a player who is pleading not guilty is completely different.

I think it is perfectly reasonable to hold institutions to account when the cultural norms of those institutions have played a part in the actions of one or more individuals.edwahu wrote: ↑February 27, 2019, 4:52 pmCan you explain how then?

Despite the fact that the game seems perfectly capable of staining itself...

I couldn't find anything but probably just speculation that he may be an option to be squeezed out of Cronulla with their cap issues, plus our search for a fullback?

I'm just speculating on the speculation and what I've suggested isn't too dissimilar to what Journos do.

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2019
I suspect
A) He’d never be allowed through the doors again after what he did to our club.
B) He’d never want to return to Canberra, let alone the Raiders.

It’s just one bloke on Facebook I can’t see it being true at all. I can see him being someone Cronulla squeeze out pretty happily but there’s no way it’s to Canberra for so many reasons.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.
Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2019
Even as a footballer I don't think I'd want him at fullback anymore.

I wonder if he is still a first grade standard full back anymore. He has not had a reputation for zealous rehab in the past, maybe that is catching up with him like it did with Carney.

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2019
He doesn't even WANT to play fullback anymore, he actually prefers the centres as it's less work and less pressure. I think that says all you need to know about the character of the man.
Having said all that, if Rick decides he wants Dugan back in the green, I'll 100% back him*
*until Round 8

He's still on fullback money though at the Sharks, isn't he?

It would be fitting if 50+ pages of off-season speculatuon in this and the 2018 thread ended with us signing shot to pieces Dugan

BJ Mole reporting the Raiders have Signed Dugan, Todd Carney, Steve Irwin and Ivan Milat to new contracts.
Unfortunately Todd Carney won’t be able to train with Milat due to a judges previous ruling.

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2019
Are we signing Milat to help with closing out games at the death??

Well despite what the track record says, I’m backing Stick to get the most out of Ivan’s playmaking talent. This is the year Stick signs a halfback and takes his game to the next level! The Rickman wrote: ↑February 28, 2019, 5:15 pmI think he's on-board to life the standard of player behaviour across the NRL.
Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2019
I couldnt get behind signing ivan. Was great in the early years but the refs started to put together a bit of a tip sheet on him and hes struggled with the judiciary ever since. Hes already locked up on a pretty long term contract anyway so unlikely we’d get a release
Dont delete this GE
Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2019
I'm sure Ivan and Steve Irwin will be in the ute circling the car park after training, both wanting to give Toddy a lift home.

Sharks are set to have 300k cap reduction per year for the next 2 years. For 600k in breaches.
We really should be cheating the cap.
