So you want to know the stat for who takes the first hitup after the kick return, when the kick was near the sideline and there was a decent kick chase ?

Yep id like to see a stat that probably doesnt exist. Is that ok? Its specific but quite a common occurrence and it can make a madsive difference on a “working the ball back out” set

Do wingers actually earn more than centres?

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2019
Croker is one of the best in the game at this imo. Gets moving quicker than most, spots off side players well and routinely gets to his stomach and earns the team a holding down penalty.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.
Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2019
Yeah if there was a stat for penalties earned he would've led it last year. It was weird to see him get so many last year after years of the refs ignoring him getting run off the ball every bomb.
Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2019
Captains in the NRL are awarded penalties by the refs above the statistical norm. This might ensure some extra penalties around the ruck for Hodgson this season.

He's also learnt how to fight / milk more effectively on the ground. There's an actual change in technique there.
Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2019
Oldfield is a big enough body and decent runner, Croker is wily enough at it, Cotric can do it all. Hopefully BJ gets involved there to take up Rapa's slack. It's an area I think we are reasonably well served in actually compared to a lot of teams.
Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2019
Most definitely. You actually have to make it look like you are trying to get up. Rather than Netflix and chilling on the ground with a defender.zim wrote:He's also learnt how to fight / milk more effectively on the ground. There's an actual change in technique there.

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2019
Croker needed to move to the wing 5 years ago, it's just "one punch too many" I think.
We have forgotten the emotional toll it would have taken on Sticky to move on players like Campo, Shillo, Fensom, etc.
They all had to go, but they were all lovely club-men, that stuff is soul destroying.
I think Croker will move eventually, but, I think Rick's burnt out on those huge (emotional) decisions for now...

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2019
Moving Croker to the wing and Cotric into the centres sounds like a great idea. That way we can completely **** up the one established combo left in our backline from the past 3 seasons. And when it all turns to **** we can turn around and blame the coach.
Rapana -> Rehab
Abbey -> Fullback
Wighton -> 5/8
Cotric -> Centre
Croker -> Wing
Oldfield -> Wing
Williams -> Left Right Out
Make it happen Sticky.

Raiders player signing speculation 2019
The two topics are linked. Need to know what positions / signings we need to speculate on! Otherwise we will end up with another bloody international 2nd Rower or another cousin of Jarrod Hayne!greeneyed wrote:OK... this is the signing speculation thread. You’re right Rick, it’s a great discussion, just trying to steer people to the most relevant threads.

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2019
DWZ was in the captain's call with Todd Greenberg. If he's captain I'd say that's pretty much a lock for fullback. Surely Edwards or the bloke below him can see the writing on the wall.
Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2019
Why can't a winger be captain? I know it's rare but I don't see why it can't happen.
Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2019
Agreed. You could easily make your co captain a winger

I remember him being captain at some stage. Maloney was injured for a few rounds.

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2019
Haven't seen a lot of Edwards, but general ideas on him I picked up scrolling through a Panthers forum seems to be
Strengths
Running the ball back / running metres in general
Support play
Weaknesses
Not a ball playing fullback, which is a big one in modern league
Injury Prone
Seems quite good in most areas of his game
Most Panthers fans seem to prefer Edwards at fullback, but the biggest reasoning on that seems to be because DWZ is a much better option than Edwards in the outside backs.
one impressive stat is that from his 25 appearances he has a 68% win record

Would have won Boogs - 2016, 2017, 2018
1 part green, 1 part machine

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2019
So Cotric would be a better version of Edwards... and it's easier to find a budget price decent winger than it is to bring in a decent FG fullback...

I don’t think Cotric will be a fullback. Centre, eventually even back rows a possibility. I would leave him and Crocker exactly where they are for this year.

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2019
I remember one of Edwards first few games he ran for over 300m. Was very good at returning the ball and exploiting gaps in tired defences.
Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2019
Sounds like the kind of player we need. Kick returns has never been wightons strong point. Nor is his support play. Let's hope it happens!
Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2019
Lurker suggesting we are in the market for a half and a full back. Also suggests the Raiders were indeed keen on Edwards but Penrith wont release him.
Hands off
The Raiders are desperate to purchase a halfback, a fullback or both before the season gets underway.
However, their search has so far proven fruitless.
There was interest in prying Penrith fullback Dylan Edwards out of the club and down to the nation's capital.
However, the Raiders have politely been told 'hands off'.
