Who will be the Canberra Raiders Nick Cotric or Emre Guler of 2019?

Who will be the Canberra Raiders Nick Cotric or Emre Guler of 2019?

It was a surprise to most Canberra Raiders fans that Nick Cotric, just 18 years of age, debuted on the wing in Round 1 of 2017 - with regular 2016 winger, Edrick Lee, released to the Sharks just prior to the start of the season. He went on to play in every game of the season - and won the Dally M Rookie of the Year, the RLPA Rookie of the Year and shared in the 2017 Canberra Raiders Fans' Choice Player of the Year. He finished just one point away from the winner of the 2017 Meninga Medal, Junior Paulo.

Emre Guler, aged 20, made his NRL debut in the Round 23 victory over the Sydney Roosters in 2018. He didn't make the same impact as Cotric in his debut season, playing the final three matches of the season - all off the bench. But the Junior Kangaroos and Blues representative looked right at home in first grade.

So who will be the Canberra Raiders' Nick Cotric or Emre Guler in 2019? Could it be Corey Horsburgh?

Tell us what you think.

Corey Horsburgh (Canberra Raiders)

THE Redcliffe junior has been compared to Queensland forwards Corey Parker and Josh McGuire for his on-field work rate. A fiery middle forward, Horsburgh hails from Caboolture and has plenty of experience under his belt, having played with the Cowboys in the under-20s. He has also been selected in the Queensland under-20s for the last two years. Now with the Raiders, there is a bright future ahead for the 20-year-old.

Horsburgh is the only realistic candidate imo. Probably more Guler than Cotric given Ricky's handling of middle forwards.

Raiders aren't going to unearth a Cotric or Guler every year

I think a Guler every year is a reasonable expectation.

Cotrics maybe one every five.

Guler is our "Cotric" for 2019. 3 games is hardly a "find". Looking for him to make an impact this year.

If there is a injury or 2 in the back line prior to Rapana coming back I reckon Sebastian Kris will raise a few eyebrows if selected.

Plenty of names that promised heaps but ultimately disappointed.

No list that invokes the name next to 2003 is a good list.

That name is a curse and this thread should be locked and banished and sent to broncoshq

To be honest, most of that list had pretty good FG careers, considering most players don't "make it".

Interesting to see Sammy Williams on the list. I hope he has a good year. I know some Cooma people and they say he's a real good egg.

On future prospects- I assumed Abbey was a 25 year old journeyman (old face?). I read he's only 21 the other day, in which case with another 5-6 kgs on him I wonder if he'll turn out to be a decent FG'er.

1. Dugan
2. Hoppe
3.Phil Graham
4.Jason Croker
5.Vainikolo
6.K Walters
7.scumbag
8.Davico
9.Priddis
10.Boyd
11.B Kennedy
12.Tongue
13.Clyde

This makes me sad. No room for Cotric. Toots gets the centres because he's versatile. Tongue and Clyde can do each other's work. Boyd ahead of Vaughan only because Boyd's a Kangaroo.

With a bench of

14.Ryan O'Hara
15.Westley
16.Vaughan
17. Carney

Or you could put Vaughan in the back row and bench Tongue. Drop Westley and pick Corkery for his versatility (he played some fairly inept back row). Just pick Cotric instead of Carney because Toots could move to 5/8....

This is a good team, I reckon!

Yeah I agree. And I quietly suspect he'll be good too.
