Just watched the stream. Lol@eels.

Only a trial but pretty dull game. I've been listening to Ed praise Horsburgh for a while now. I only saw glimpses of the Mounties last year but last night he looked like he is ready to step up. I thought he was the pick of the forwards. He looks to get involved in every single play, both in attack and defence. Willing to run those blocks/decoys, just looks like an out and out footy player, and appears to have a decent motor. Murchie looked good in defence but doesn't offer much in attack from what I've seen. Maybe he isn't being used properly?

Other than that CNK looked good for someone new to the club. If he trials well against the Bulldogs he deserves to be named Rd 1. I've always been impressed with Havili and it's good to see him looking a little fitter than this time last year. Needs to stop kicking the ball. I mean no disrespect but with Havili, Horsburgh, Murchie, Guler, Sutton and Lui and Sam Williams all vying for bench spots Luke Bateman has no business in the 17.

Agree. He was our most experienced forward out there last night and looked ineffective.

Canberra Raiders Sam Williams won't give up half chance without a fight

Raiders playmaker Sam Williams is hoping a strong performance in his club's last-gasp trial win over the Eels will work in his favour but acknowledges coach Ricky Stuart is likely to prefer a halves pairing of Jack Wighton and Aidan Sezer for round one.

"I think Aidan and Jack will get first crack next week in the trial. Ricky knows my game pretty well, he knows where I sit with everything," Williams said. "You obviously want to play first grade whenever you can. I don't know exactly where it's all at at the moment. It’s just important to come out on a night like this when you've got an opportunity. We came out and won the game and that's all you can control."

He gave away a few penalties to stop their momentum. Made 2 good runs and a number of back to back defensive efforts in the middle, but unless he's able to produce at a slightly higher level for 60mins he just doesn't offer the impact of someone like a Lui or Horsburgh for that bench spot.

When I saw the line ups for this game I was of the opinion of “ok we will get hammered, but let’s evaluate some talent” annnnddd then we won!

Just watched a replay on the big screen via my Apple TV.

I have to agree the second try for the Raiders was not grounded. The Sam Williams try was probably on the seventh tackle, given the refs incorrectly call no “six again” with an Eels touch. And the standard of score boarding... my gosh that was a bad error not giving Sam his third conversion.

The referee was in a good position to see. I only watched on the phone but the commentators had doubts, but they (the commentators) were from the Eels cheer squad. Some of the other referee calls were a bit ordinary. Some 'holding down' in the tackle, where if they are consistent there should be a penalty every set. And then the 'get square' penalties. But thankfully just a trial.

There was an awful lot of inconsistency. I fear what we’re going to see under the new edict of let the game flow, reward the attacking play, once the season starts.

#penaltybroncos for the first 35 minutes of each half and then 5 minutes of meaningless get squares.

I agree with you.

Wondering if the jersey numbers during the trial might give hints to where some of the players might start in the season proper, do players start the season with multiple jerseys with different numbers or are they made as they get selected?

5. Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad (Oldfield to start fullback, CNK on the wing?)
8. Dunamis Lui (starting?)

15. Corey Horsburgh (bench spot)
16. Emre Guler (bench spot)
17. Ryan Sutton (bench spot)
Would have won Boogs - 2016, 2017, 2018

Seems like us fans getting desperate for clues in the off-season :roflmao
BUT if they roll out in the same # next trial I'll wear the tinfoil right alongside you.

Just watched this game.

Definitely seems like Abbey and maybe Lui are on the outer.

Think promoting Simonsson over Satini seems like a pretty silly option considering Satini is now a hardened option and surely Simonsson couldn’t be considered as a fullback.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.

Simonsson would get a year to develop. He's already been labelled as "very raw" in an interview. Satini looked great on the wing.
