I’ve actually highlighted that earlier somewhere recently, actually. Maybe in this thread. The trouble is... we have the experience of the past two seasons to learn from, and it appears we are not, not at this stage anyway. I think we took that Orange trial in 2016 seriously. I don’t think that applied in the past two years... and it showed in how the team started the season. Last year we knew we had a major issue... how to deal with the loss of Hodgson for the first half of the season. We spent the first month of the season experimenting with combinations in the spine, to the team’s great cost. They were experiments that should have been tested in trials, but were not.

I'm still furious about two years ago when Stuart essentially came out before the trials and said "trials aren't important, we need to just make sure we're hitting our straps when the finals roll around."

And how did that work out for them? Then last year we repeated the process for exactly the same result. This season it appears Ricky is paying lip service to the fans to slience everyone blowing up about trials by playing another trial, but then he's named hardly any of the first graders! He really is a stubborn, stubborn man.

Haha yeah, like when we beat Roosters and Souths in those two meaningless games at the end of last season. That didn't make me happy, that just made me even angrier!

Have arrived at St Marys. Staying the night at the hotel. Could almost watch the match from my window unobstructed from one end.

Just sitting having a drink at St Marys Leagues. Looks like a tin shed that grew like topsy from the outside. Huge and some pretty nice bars and restaurants inside.

I’m heading to Sydney tomorrow for a gig, if I had of thought about it I would have asked if I could have hitched a lift in your copter and gone to this with you GE.

Loved the opening of the ladies game, Preston Campbell playing didg for the women was awesome

The other thing hung people forget about 2016 is that we played like crap for the first 10 or so rounds. Then we went in that unbeaten streak to surge into the top 2. Playing 1 trial that year didn’t mean we started the season in good form.

Royce on the Hunt for second Canberra Raiders game

He knocked down the door to make his NRL debut in 2017, but Canberra Raiders prop Royce Hunt admits it's been tough waiting to play his second game.

"It's been a bit hard, go out every weekend and play hoping to get a call up, but that's the way footy is," Hunt said. "I'll just hopefully get a go and get a shot this year."

that's one or 2 games too many at the start then.. just ran out of steam at the end and didn't make the Grand Final

Would have thought CNK would get the start at fullback. I’m sure he’ll get plenty of time there though. Wasn’t excited for this game but am now, just keen to see the boys in green have a run around, it’s been too long.

I suggested to my wife we go out to dinner. She declined. She did say I could pick what we watched

So I’ve got the trial on an iPad on the coffee table and will put the Big Bash semi-final on the tele.

I may need to sleep on someone’s couch tomorrow if that’s cool.

3rd min Raiders held up in goal! But the Sam Williams kick to end the set to the corner produces a 20m tap for the Eels.
