Can I question how much effort he’s putting into his technique?

Canberra Raiders half Aidan Sezer needs stability off the field to get the best out of himself in 2019

Canberra Raiders half Aidan Sezer needs stability off the field to get the best out of himself in 2019

Last season we didn’t see the best of Aidan Sezer. The 27-year-old spent the first two games of 2018 on the bench, watching on while Blake Austin and Sam Williams shared duty in Canberra’s halves. For the remainder of the year, the three battled week in and week out for the starting positions.

“My job is to be experienced. This is my eighth season in the NRL,” he says. “Directing the boys around, that’s all we need is a bit of direction. I need to be assertive with that and getting the job done because I feel like there’s always room for improvement.

Canberra Raiders coach Ricky Stuart says he'll choose halves who produce strongest defensive line

Aidan Sezer takes a step into the unknown for the 2019 Telstra Premiership season.

"I've got to make a decision on No.7 and No.6 and my whole focus will be around my strongest defensive line," coach Ricky Stuart said. "I'm not making attack a priority. We haven't practised anywhere near the amount of attack we've practised over the years. It's been defensive orientated this off-season."

Not much to see here, I read this as...
"...footy player standard comment, towing the corporate line, wasn't keen playing hooker, so I wasn't happy at home, towing the corporate tag line (family/ tight knit group), footy player standard comment, Jack in halves, blah blah blah, Sammy is a top bloke, blah blah blah, standard preseason selection comment."

That pretty much confirms Wighton to the Halves IMO. Would say it will either be Abbey or Simonson at fullback(if he gets his contract upgraded)

Lock In Wighton for 5/8 I say going off that . Cotric wont be moved from the wing.

Leaves Abbey or more likely Oldfield for fullback.

Some suggestions it could be even more left field than Wighton at five eighth.

Sticky stuffed the team selections during Hodgos injury , He has to get it right for the start of the year Playing a backrower in the halves is plain dumb regardless of their ball playing ability. Its great that we really focusing on the defence albeit many years late but we still do need to score points.

Not sure Whitehead at 6 and Bateman on the edge makes us stronger in defence because IMO it will leave us very short of experience and ability in the middle, where we are already really weak defensively.

I'd be happy with Wighton at 5/8th, Croker at fullback, Cotric to left centre and Oldy on the wing.

No matter how crazy you think Ricky is, there’s no way anyone could think he’d intend to play Whitehead at five-eighth for a season. No way.

Wait - we practiced attacking moves??

I know we are always up the top of the points scoring tally - but we haven't looked like a well drilled team since Ricky arrived. I love our free flowing style of attack, but our points come from individual brilliance most often, not from well drilled attacking plays....

Hard to believe the loss of one winger from a roster of 30 could seriously affect a well balanced squad.

I am one of the biggest defensophiles on here. But I hope they have been doing a fair bit of ball work or we will have high handling errors and be starved of possession. Emphasis on defence yes, little or no ball work meh.

Canberra Raiders on track to turn around close losses

Canberra Raiders prop Sia Soliola revealed the Green Machine have been simulating how to close out the final stages of games.

"Given the season we had the last couple of seasons and how similar it was, coming into the season ... is trying to replicate those scenarios out there at training," Soliola said. "That's probably the mindset that we're having at the moment, is how we can close out those games.

Ricky's analysed our pre-seasons more closely than anybody else in the game and has solved the riddle that he has previously said didn't know how to fix.

Canberra Raiders English NRL recruits impress

Canberra co-captain Josh Hodgson says fellow English internationals John Bateman and Ryan Sutton have already lifted training standards at the Raiders.

"They've both played a lot of games for England, won grand finals over there, so they know what it takes to win big games and what it takes in the lead-up during the week," Hodgson said. "I've been really impressed with the attitude of all the boys at the club. I've seen a big difference in the place during the pre-season.
