If another rainbow hit us in the **** and Raiders won a premiership in the next couple of years it will be in spite of Ricky’s coaching tactics, not because of them. Basing it on what we’ve seen for the last 5 years.

Canberra Raiders express interest in Kiwi superstar Shaun Johnson
@jez
A major source of frustration for any Raiders fan this year was our ability to find a loss when leading late in the match. Many on here lamented our halves ability to control a match or close out a win.
This year in the games that mattered most for the Warriors against the Panthers Johnson went missing. In the first two test matches NZ lost very late in both games after leading. Is that then Johnson’s fault like it was Seders fault when we lost?
Johnson is undoubtably talented and has a natural flair for the game. Hence an exciting career highlights package is easy to put together but he doesn’t have the ability to control a game like a Cronk.
I have no doubt that Johnson would win us more games but I don’t think he will ever be a premiership winning half.
Having said all that if we did sign him I would be excited like all Raiders fans. However I have made it abundantly clear where I believe the major problem with this team is and Johnson doesn’t fix it.

Re: Canberra Raiders express interest in Kiwi superstar Shaun Johnson
I agree. It's a moot point as I think that, between our cap issues and his personality, there is no way Shaun Johnson is coming to the Raiders - but in any case he really isn't the type of halfback this team needs. His salary would also cripple the rest of our squad, like it has at the Warriors.
In saying that, there isn't a huge amount of depth in the experienced halfback stakes. With Thurston retiring and Cronk on his way out it's most likely we're going to have to take a punt on junior talent and hope that Stuart can get Sezer to reach is potential - which is immeasurably better than most other options out there.
What I would do to get someone like Gareth Widdop into our team...

Kudos to the Dragons for striking when they did to sign Widdop. Would love our Club to make a similar brave call on a young player. Drinkwater or Hughes from the Storm could be the next Widdop perhaps?Seiffert82 wrote: ↑November 24, 2018, 8:00 am What I would do to get someone like Gareth Widdop into our team...

Time will tell if there is a real chance of getting Johnson to the Raiders. I hope they do all the due diligence. They need a current health check up. He played 19 matches last year and 18 the year before with the Warriors. While the highlights packages are very entertaining there is never a low lights package to balance out the view of a player.

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Drinkwater at 21 was very very good in the Q cup this year and is probably at the best club in terms of developing him into a representative level first grader.
I would happily bet that provided he stays relatively injury free in his career he will play for NSW at some stage:

In Johnson news ...
'I get to spread my wings' - Shaun Johnson hints at leaving Warriors in social media post
Warriors halfback Shaun Johnson appears to have vented his frustrations at the club, amidst his ongoing contract stoush.
After signing a two-year, seven figure deal extension last year, Johnson will come off contract at the end of the 2019 season, with the Warriors telling the star halfback he's free to look for another club rather than re-sign. Earlier this month it had been reported that the Canberra Raiders were interested in acquiring Johnson's signature, before the club played down the notion of bringing in the Kiwis halfback.

SJ has clarified his position:
"Firstly there is no contract for me to sign past 2019.
Secondly if you saw the article that came out a few weeks back..In a round about way they said they are in no rush to re sign me. Since then they have told me again at this stage they wont be offering me anything.
That means I get to spread my wings and see what's out there so right now that's what I'm doing!"

Get to it and sign him.

This is worth the roll of the dice. If he’ll come, we need to try to make it happen.

I've added a poll. I'm in the camp of saying yes of course, would love to see him here.
Also put a poll on The GH Facebook page... it is going gangbusters! 200 votes in the space of 10 minutes.

Looking back at this, “I get to spread [the balk to] my wings” is a clear reference to the game’s two best wingers, Jordan Rapana and Nick Cotric
Re: Canberra Raiders express interest in Kiwi superstar Shaun Johnson
Shaun Johnson for 20 weeks a year = major upgrade on anything we had for 25 this year.
