77th min TRY RAIDERS in the corner! They hit the lead through Tony Satini! Croker converts from the sideline.

Still free and Imo great from the NRL to see the trials, we are still amateur compared to American leagues however a great improvement.

No doubt mentioned earlier but where is Leilua and Oldfield for this trial?

Injuries, both good for rd1
Re: 2019 Trial 2 V Bulldogs: Teams and Game Day *Teams p1*
Sam is a much smarter footballer than Aidan its just such a shame his defence falls down a little.

If the league was still unprofessional we'd be champions, hence the glory days in the 90's.Northern Raider wrote: ↑February 23, 2019, 5:39 pm We look so much better against their NSW Cup players

So I don’t think Wighton is the issue in the halves. It’s if we go Sezar or Williams

And how do we make that call with our trial “strategy”?LastRaider wrote:So I don’t think Wighton is the issue in the halves. It’s if we go Sezar or Williams

Yep... took a bit of time to get his feet under him but came up with the goods in the 2nd half. I don’t see Ricky benching Sezer though.LastRaider wrote:So I don’t think Wighton is the issue in the halves. It’s if we go Sezar or Williams

Been previously mentioned, but with leilua, oldfield, Bateman to come in I don’t think things are looking bad at all.
For me williams was the winner over sezer, but it was against their reserve grade side, so take from that what you will.

Sam's problem is doing it for 80 mins, then being able to back it up the next week. At his best he's a genuine NRL qaulity half. Unfortunately its 1 game on, 2 games off.

Well 2 from 2 ain’t bad. Some rocky areas no doubt but still 3 weeks from round 1. Can’t argue with the results.

Exactly, the mind boggles with Stuart’s trial strategy. Run the guts out of the FG squad for 70 mins instead of playing them in both trials and having a good 30 minutes in each.gangrenous wrote:And how do we make that call with our trial “strategy”?LastRaider wrote:So I don’t think Wighton is the issue in the halves. With Havali’s versatility can we also afford to carry Williams on the bench?

We've been working on our last 20 mins. Hopefully when the comp starts the opposition will oblige by trotting out their reserve grade team at this point.

Williams is an ourstanding NSW cup player and that's all he has shown in the trials. Sezer will be the halfback as he can defend.

Agree about the quality of the stream. Having the camera basically on the 30m line stuffed me around a bit tho. I thought there were so many 40/20sJason wrote:I couldn’t get the stream to load on my smart tv, works perfect on the laptop though. I thought Tapine looked threatening on the right edge. He could prove very dangerous for the opposition this year, especially when he has Leilua and Oldfield around him instead of Kris and Simonsen.

Surprised to see so many people pumping the tyres of a Wighton/Williams halves combo.
Thought Sezer was good today against a strong wind with an incredibly inexperienced edge outside him. His combo with Wighton was a bit rusty but Jack definitely warmed up to his new position as the game went on.
Side note, how good is Corey Horsburgh. Has been fantastic in both trials and probably fits that small minutes bench role the best out of any of our middles. Hopefully he gets a crack.

Re: 2019 Trial 2 V Bulldogs: Teams and Game Day *Teams p1*
Things I'm taking away from this trial:
Wighton is starting again and still too new at this 5/8th caper. He is basically catch, pass or run, but could be another great running 5/8th in the mould of Campo and Austin, if he gets the support from a good half and hooker. Williams makes him look a lot better than Sezar who is working his **** off on organising. Sammy has bulked up in the off-season and all this could get him the starting spot.
CNK has pretty much wrapped up the fullback spot after just three games with us.
Oldfield will probably get a wing spot. Simmonson needs a lot more work and although I think this is the second week Santini has won us the game, he's not going to get the nod. Feel for Abbey because I think Bateman will get BJ's centre spot seeing as he is the England centre. No room at the inn.
Whitehead looks like he is playing well within himself and yet he is still causing problems for the defence. If he stays healthy, this could be a huge year for him.
Corey Horsbough is a player to watch.

Re: 2019 Trial 2 V Bulldogs: Teams and Game Day *Teams p1*
Well that was a great final twenty at least Our forwards looked heaps better and Wighton finally clicked into gear as well. I didn't mind the looks of Horsburgh actually, I think he will see some more footy this year, hard to get down and has an offload. Not sold on the dual captains thing, seemed they both came in every time anyway.
We could say the forwards looked better because the Bulldogs gave up a bit but it could be the smaller forwards and the fitness level just really shines in the final twenty? I'm hoping it's the later, would be nice for the final twenty minutes of games to be fun to watch instead of an anxiety filled hell of waiting for us to give up a 20 point lead.

Re: 2019 Trial 2 V Bulldogs: Teams and Game Day *Teams p1*
I don’t think we can. Havili’s versatility is excellent though as it allows hodgo to play 80 mins if he needs to while havili slots into lock. I don’t however think that’s enough reason to carry a 2nd utility on the bench with our smaller pack this year.edwahu wrote:What for though? Re: 2019 Trial 2 V Bulldogs: Teams and Game Day *Teams p1*
Horsburg has looked the pick in both games out of himself/Lui/Hunt/Guler/Sutton. I don't expect him to get the nod though.
Team did look slicker with Williams out there- was that just against the reggies though? He played without headgear too which was interesting.
Played good: Sia, Tapine, Cotric, CNK
Showed a bit at stages: Hunt, Croker, Hors (limited minutes), Wighton, Williams
Rest were just ok.
Mainly pleased Jack looked more settled in the second half. CNK has been safe at the back, can return a ball and ruck out effectively without getting monstered and maybe just as a bit more flash with those feet than we've seen at stages.
Was hoping we might see more from Guler- he's steady but not been outstanding. Looking like Horsburg might have the higher ceiling of the two but not seen nearly enough of either.

Re: 2019 Trial 2 V Bulldogs: Teams and Game Day *Teams p1*
I dunno. I think it will come down to which player Wighton feels more comfortable with. Based on what I saw, that will be Williams, even though the Doggies had replaced their stars with NSW Cup players who weren't putting the same amount of pressure on him.Danaman137 wrote: ↑February 23, 2019, 5:45 pmYep... took a bit of time to get his feet under him but came up with the goods in the 2nd half. Yeah your probably right but he is a better thinker than Sezer and he and Jack just seem to know each others game well (used to kill it in 20s)Northern Raider wrote: ↑February 23, 2019, 5:47 pmSam's problem is doing it for 80 mins, then being able to back it up the next week. Jack needs the ball early with a bit of space and Sam seems to know that.Aidan seems to give the ball as an after thought sometimes.

Re: 2019 Trial 2 V Bulldogs: Teams and Game Day *Teams p1*
I will say, it has been a lot of fun to do exactly to them what teams have been doing to us all years last year, twice in a row. I would have preferred a strong start and for that to carry on, but it does ramp up the excitement factor for that last 20
