Sleep in saves Fielden from disaster

Post by greeneyed »

Today's ST says that 25 year old Bradford front rower Stuart Fielden was saved from disaster in Thailand, as he decided to have a sleep in. He and a friend had gone to Phi Phi on Christmas Day, diving, and liked the place so much, they had planned to go back on Boxing Day. If they had gone, they would have arrived at the time the Boxing Day tsunami struck the island. They didn't and were lucky to get away from the disaster unscathed. His hotel was 5 minutes from the beach and it wasn't flooded. He said on the morning of the disaster he felt his room shaking... he never dreamed it was an earthquake. The next thing they knew, people who had been caught in the tsunami but had escaped were turning up in their hotel foyer.

Fielden has been linked to the Canberra Raiders in the past and he again admitted that he has not ruled out testing himself in the NRL given the success of Adrian Morley.

Very very lucky. Good to see he hasn't ruled out the NRL yet. :)

I'm sure it probably still shocks him that he is alive.

Really hits home that through all of this discussion, it is only a game we talk about.

When does his contract at Bradford end?

I think it is pretty much a given now that he is not going to get out of his contract early, but perhaps when it is up...
