We are making a concerted effort to move away from a big pack and I actually hold high hopes for next year as I think our defence will improve considerably.
Was Boyd a Stick or Furner move? I feel like I remember back when Stick coaches NSW before jumping to Parra, he was being “Revolutionary” by selecting a smaller, more agile forward pack.

Maybe he’s rehashing this idea?
Possibly, I think the success of the Dragons at the start of the year helped along with NSW.

However, I think Stuart was just fed up with our poor defence and weak output from our big guys who couldn’t knock out 100m consistently per game. Our first 3 hit ups are almost always from our backs, the front row was lazy.

Sutton has been dominated in most instances. Bateman looks good.

Yeah not Sutton's best stint of footy in the first half. Hopefully he turns it around in the second half. Bateman seems to always look good he's a quality player.

Bateman played well imo one of the best on ground. Sutton didn't have his best game hopefully they both play well next week and can go out with a premiership.

I noticed a St Helens bloke kicked 3 field goals in their loss. Maybe we could sign him for special teams?

Not encouraged by these posts re Sutton
I dont watch ESL and am unlikely to start now... but guys who have come here and been successful as forwards in the NRL have apparently been pretty dominant footballers.

So Sutton struggling at ESL level doesnt fill me with confidence. Bateman being a stud over there however does bode well. Excited to see what he brings to the table for us.

I know this thread is about his role in our squad, but if Sutton isnt a good FG, our middle is going to be ROUGH next year. Papalii will be moving up front full time but is Bateman a genuine middle option?

Sutton isn't that bad from what I have seen. Somewhere between Luke Bateman and Lui in the depth chart I'd think.

Bateman can't play the prop type middle but could play the Radley type role which seems to be making a comeback. He will play well anywhere I reckon but we will need more than just Papalii to compensate in the middle if Bateman does play lock.

sutton had his moments but he also does a lot of things right and has a high work rate for a forward who looks like he can lose some weight and gain some fitness, i'm sure wigan would not have played him for those high minutes if he was that bad, it is hard to please on here but.

with an nrl off season i think he will be fine, seems to have good attributes, remember he's only 22 and wigan tried to convince him not to leave yet so they think he has what it takes. his prime is a few years away i'd say.

he'll be fine.

Seen a bit of that Wigan vs Castleford game. Bateman looks good. I think hell be fine.

Not sure what's up with Sutton. Has he been out with injury? Not as bad as made out here, but he almost reminds me of Jordan Turner. Almost. Just looked a bit unfit.

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

I think he'll improve. There's enough there to suggest he'll go alright. Just needs some work.

I remember watching Hodgson thinking he was nothing special either!

Let's hope so.

He's here to do a job.

If he doesn't aim up I might have to dust off the boots..

My gut feeling is telling me Sutton will be a Jordan Turner 2.0.
Why hasn’t he represented England yet?

He is only 23, Turner was 28.

There are better front towers in front of him but Hodgo hadn't played for England either and nor had Whitehead at that age.

He won't be that bad as long as expectations are realistic. The club calling him the replacement for Boyd/Jnr was silly.

my thoughts also, he’s a guy that Has looked promising in a lesser comp, he’s not going to come over here and be a standout top of the line prop, I reckon he can come and perform a role for us though, his work rate seems good and he’s apparently An improving footballer.
