Canberra Raiders players defend coach Ricky Stuart
Canberra players have backed coach Ricky Stuart, saying there is nothing more he could have done this season.
"We were very unlucky with injuries and suspensions, (Stuart) did the best he could and the players he brought in were the right players," Rapana said. "We have belief in every player that comes in here and I know Ricky does too, that's why he plays them."

Jordan Rapana backs Nick Cotric to fire again on the Canberra Raiders wing
Canberra winger Jordan Rapana is backing fellow flyer Nick Cotric to once again flourish in the final three weeks of the season after being moved back to the flank.
"Around Origin time he was on the verge of playing for the Blues on the wing and we know what type of player Nick is when he's on the wing for us," Rapana said. "I think it will give him a bit of confidence this week and he's got a big job with Fergo marking up him who's been a good metre-eater for them."

'Unacceptable': Canberra Raiders coach Ricky Stuart opens up about finals miss
Canberra Raiders coach Ricky Stuart says this year has been the most frustrating period of his career, conceding missing the finals is unacceptable after failing to secure a top-eight spot.
"As the head coach and the guy who has to be accountable for it all, it's probably the most frustrating period of coaching I've ever been involved in," Stuart said. "The way we've been getting beaten is different to being beaten by three, four or five tries and you know you're not in the game.

After 5 years and getting player she wants and making the Finals once in those 5 years isn’t good enough. If the players act up don’t play well defend poorly it all comes down to attitude and that also comes from the club and coaching staff. The Raiders Club needs Don Furner and Co to go we need a clean out the club is still living in the 1990s. Tell me why is Stuart void from any coaching talk it’s like he is protected and his results are far worse then those coaching in the nrl now that have been sacked. Also Stuart in his past 10 years of coaching has made the Finals only once and that was in 2016. Not good enough Stuart can’t take this team to next level.Roger Kenworthy wrote: ↑August 16, 2018, 7:25 amInFernos_Raiders wrote: ↑August 16, 2018, 2:02 amThis Club won’t sack their golden boy Stuart even if we lose the last 3 games by 100,PerthRaider86 wrote: ↑August 15, 2018, 5:35 pm I just hope this is the toweling we need to get the ball rolling on Ricky's departure as head coach

to an extent yes injuries cruelled our season, Hodgson missing the first 15 games is huge because our 6 and 7 failed to cover the loss and the unexplained reason prevented using Garvey with Havili.
Losing Oldfield on the back of Croker and Wighton really did screw us due to the depth in our backs but the damage was long ago done with the 0-4 start and the failure to make amends through a soft part of the draw.

Canberra Raiders underachieve but hamstring by injury
Canberra Raiders prop Luke Bateman says they've underachieved in missing out on the NRL finals, but admits injuries and suspensions have taken their toll.
"We're pretty confident that we've got a good squad here and we can play good enough footy to be in the top eight so it's definitely a massive disappointment and underachievement in terms of where we see ourselves at," Luke Bateman said.

The injury list this year is not our problem. It’s our lack of accountability to control those things which we can control. We have spent years making excuses - 2017, everyone figured us out. 2018, injuries. The last decade - the refs hate us, the nrl hate us, no one wants to live in Canberra, we can’t recruit players... blah blah blah.-PJ- wrote: ↑August 16, 2018, 4:09 pmThe "unacceptable" comment would have sounded better coming from a board member or even Don.bonehead wrote: ↑August 16, 2018, 3:51 pm to an extent yes injuries cruelled our season, Hodgson missing the first 15 games is huge because our 6 and 7 failed to cover the loss and the unexplained reason prevented using Garvey with Havili.

Look at the panthers this year as an example. So far we are 23 rounds I to the season.
Their starting hooker played 9 games and has retired due to injury. Their starting fullback in Edwards has only been on the field for 8 games. Mansour has only managed 10, DWZ 15. RCG, 16 from 23. Cleary had a long layoff and has only started 50% of the games this season. Tyrone May has been busted, and only had 5 games. Waqa Blake has only played 11.
They are top 5 even with an injury list that is SIGNIFICANTLY worse than ours.
And that was seen as underachieving, so they sacked their coach.
Im sick of hearing Ricky make up excuses instead of owning the situation. This is HIS squad, trained and motivated by him. The training straff work under his control. Th salary cap is managed by him.
And we have underachieved massively for a second season in a row, and show no indication of doing anything other than saying - we have a good group of guys, we love playing together, when we get the rub of the green, no bad ref calls, no injuries, we can win matches.
Time to go Ricky.

Nick Cotric flies back to the Canberra Raiders wing
Nick Cotric was flying on the wing, to the point where he almost flew into the NSW State of Origin team. His Canberra Raiders teammates expect him to return there from fullback a better player as he goes head to head against Sydney Roosters "metre eater" Blake Ferguson.
"I think it will give him a bit of confidence this week. He's got a big task with Fergo, marking up on Fergo, who's been a metre eater for them and I think it will be a good challenge for him and one that he can do a job," Jordan Rapana said.

Agreed. The real kicker is that if the Board suddenly starts taking an interest in the football dept in 2020 and realise they have a dud leading it and decide not to renew Stuart it will be way too late. The other clubs would have picked the eyes out of the roster leaving the new coach in 2021 to start another re-building program all over again.InFernos_Raiders wrote: ↑August 16, 2018, 2:02 amThis Club won’t sack their golden boy Stuart even if we lose the last 3 games by 100,PerthRaider86 wrote: ↑August 15, 2018, 5:35 pm I just hope this is the toweling we need to get the ball rolling on Ricky's departure as head coach

We need a new coach for 2019 while there is still a cadre of talent in the club that a competent incoming coach can weld into a competitive force. If the Board doesn't step up now the drought will go on for at least another decade.

It's a simple game; tackle, back-up, pass, hold the ball! What did I say? "Hold the bloody ball!!"

Re: 2018 Rd 23 V Roosters: Teams and Previews *Teams p1*
How do other teams get more from their rosters ? Why are other teams coached within an inch of a play ? We throw it to a prop on the 5th... we ad lib and score trys yep that's good. Captain croker with his arm flapping is actually a toxic example. Play the whistle, stop the try. Want to win at all costs. **** what the ref says. Play hard. You are raiders !! Victim mentality has made our team lose. Yep Ricky can use it to motivate, but it has backfired. In my opinion....
Re: 2018 Rd 23 V Roosters: Teams and Previews *Teams p1*
So all the injuries and suspensions are responsible for the Raiders being the No.1 Try Scoring side in the NRL up to this point in 2018..... Why wouldn't it be? It is where the focus of an attack minded coach would be. But when we don't have the ball, we are as solid as a tissue in a hot shower. We are constantly run down after building leads - imo this is because we are 'Raiders fit' not NRL fit. Physically and between the ears we are not up to the task as a team.
I am bemused that even the players are buying into this 'injury and suspension' are to blame baloney. Why is the attacking record so good if there is even a scintilla of truth in that? They say the coach is doing his best. Sadly I think they are right. He is doing his best and it has produced one finals appearance in 5 years. Any business which spends millions of dollars producing failure most years should be questioning where the focus of those leading the operation is at. It is obviously not in the correct place over both the short and long term.
The Hall of Fame player is regrettably a Hall of Shame defensive coach.

Yep.
Austin, BJ and Rapa vs Matterson, Latrell, Tupou.
Sammy, Whitey, Cotric vs Cronk, Manu, Fergie.
Hmmm... might be 2nd guessing myself now. Pretty sure Sammy has been defending on the left.

The only two decisions he will have to make are a) whether to rush up out of the line to completely miss him; or b) quickly backpedalling towards his own goal line and being wrong footed. Should be a great contest.
