I hate to say it there’s no chance in hell that Stuart will drop Austin. In the Press Conference you can see he just doesn’t get it or he is just stubborn and doesn’t want to look wrong.
It boggles the mind how Stuart picks the team and his game/bench management is another story.

Now that our season is pretty much over I expect our performances to drop off badly.
Dogs will beat us 32-12.

Last time Sezer and Williams were paired in the halves Sezer had a blinder and Williams got hurt. Ironically that was also against the Dogs.

Unbelievable that Austin is still in the team, even as #14, after so many months of ineptitude in defence. He should be in Mounties but we have a coach who is totally clueless! I hope Ricky "forgets" Austin is on the bench like he did with Knight last week.
It's a simple game; tackle, back-up, pass, hold the ball! What did I say? "Hold the bloody ball!!"

I was pretty close. It's a good bench but obviously from my earlier post I would have left Austin out of the side. Really liking Havili at lock.
Wonder why Lui keeps getting a start over Soliola. Maybe trying to balance things out so we don't lose as much when the first interchanges happen.

Really hoping Knight gets some game time.

I will reserve judgement on the Austin to the bench selection until I see how he is used.

If it is to replace a half then it really does show that Ricky is incapable of learning from past mistakes.

If it is to play a brief stint at lock and add a bit of spark to the team I would be happy. I am not concerned about him defending in the middle for a short stint as his decision making is the major flaw in his game.

I like that starting 13. Hodgson and havili starting will cause havoc for the dogs in the middle. But I fully expect havili to go to the bench and a forward replace Austin.

Austin coming on in the second half to tighten our defence when tired. I like it.

I’m at a bucks party on Saturday, I’ll have a look at the Sunday paper to see how big a lead we give up this week.

Canberra Raiders drop Blake Austin to bench, recall Sam Williams for Canterbury Bulldogs

The Canberra Raiders have dropped Blake Austin for their clash against the Canterbury Bulldogs, paving the way for forgotten half Sam Williams to play his first game in three months on Saturday night.

Raiders coach Ricky Stuart reshuffled his team after another heartbreaker last weekend, which has left their season dangling by the last thread.

"Wighton has pleaded guilty to assaulting five men in a late-night brawl in Civic earlier this year."
This seems to change every time I read about it. My grandchildren will tell stories of how the Hero of Orange took on an entire bus load of villains without spilling a single drop.

Hot tip: it'll be 26-24
Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate.
John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.

Wonder what Austin was told re the demotion to the bench?

He should have been dropped from first grade... not involved at all.
Hes taking someones spot that will listen and not put himself before the team.

It opens the door for him to come on and be ok, maybe make a break, maybe score a try...then hes back in the week after.

No !

But would he create havoc with his decision making there too?
I re watched the game, yeah I know, I need help. He was directly involved with 3 tries against us in some form, to compound that he failed to find touch off a penalty, then kicked out on the full off a line drop out, then the short kick off wasnt so short.

Thats some seriously bad skills for a full time professional player.

It grates me how he struts around too!

That Bulldogs team is total rubbish!
Who’d have thought at the start of the season that they’d end up with Lewis and Marshall-King as their halves?
I know they won last week but seriously if we lose this match we really suck.

Like Havali at Lock. If Austin is used at lock to target tired defenders late in the half / game then I’m happy with that also.

Austin shouldn't be in the team after last week. To me this was a very clear opportunity for Stuart to show his objectivity as a coach. I just really struggle to see how austin can maintain his spot after last week and given his history of poor defence this year. Starting or bench, doesn't matter.

I hope Austin can turn it around and I hope he is able to get a contract with another team next year and returns to his best. I do feel sorry for him but he is simply a huge defensive liability at the moment.

There’s clearly not a strong accountability culture at the club, and this is why they are where they are.

For what possible purpose? Havili is obviously the back up dummy half so any injection of Austin unless it is due to injury will weaken what ever position he slots into.

Canberra Raiders rookie fullback Brad Abbey to face old club in second start

Canberra Raiders fullback Brad Abbey admits the circumstances surrounding his debut weren't ideal, but he's determined to make the most of his opportunity.

"The circumstances were not the best but I definitely just wanted to take it with both hands and hopefully [play well enough] to stay there. It’s good I get a full week this week and I can't wait to go back to Belmore. I've got a lot of mates back there and it will be good to have some banter on the field."

Eh I don't mind so much. Ricky seems incredibly unwilling to make a change and as I said before the presser looked like he was hinting that Austin would be dropped due to his defense. That it was only a bench demotion sucks, but a man in the desert, baby steps and all that.

I can’t believe what I am seeing from Super Coach Ricky. Austin at 14 is a joke.. I can already see what is going to happen. Austin will be on after 30 minutes to replace Havilii and will play the remainder of the game on the field. Austin will then cause friction between him, Williams and Sezar like it did in the first 4 rounds as Austin will be trying to show he is the number 1 man, spruking himself to other clubs. I’m just over it, we are going to lose this week... I can already see it!

Im not convinced that Williams will be any better than Austin defensively but he couldnt possibly be worse. And you absolutely could not pick austin again to start after last weeks performance.
So Sam gets his shot.

Havilii at lock is interesting. Not sure about it but certainly open to the idea of it

Williams’ defence has been no better. That’s the problem. But surely a player with three try causes in a critical game lost by four is dropped.
