It was Groundhog Day in Round 16 against the Brisbane Broncos with the Raiders leading for 70 minutes, before again losing in the final 10 minutes. It leaves the Raiders six competition points adrift of the eighth placed Broncos. The Raiders must win a highly unlikely seven, maybe eight, of their remaining nine matches to challenge for the top eight. It will have to start with an away win against the Bulldogs in Round 17. Who should line up for the Raiders in that match? Tell us your team here and see how you go in comparison to the official squad when announced. We will include the official line ups in the first post of this thread as soon as they're available.

We should win this one.
Dogs r out of the eight.
If we loose this...Ricky should b called in to explain to the board.

With Hingano out we should be eligible to bring in a replacement. I'd be throwing Tyler Cornish a deal and chucking him in to see what he can do.
Surely Guler or Murchie debut as well.

Yeah, don’t think it works like that when you have 3 uninjured halves...edwahu wrote:With Hingano out we should be eligible to bring in a replacement. I'd be throwing Tyler Cornish a deal and chucking him in to see what he can do.

Who cares? This result is now utterly meaningless.green eyebrow wrote:We should win this one.

Ricky should already be called to explain to the board. Why is there no progress in addressing fading out of games after 2 years. Unacceptable.
Re: 2018 Rd 17 V Bulldogs: Teams and Previews
It does work that way since Hingano was injured in a rep game. We can replace him. Doesn't matter who else is in the squad.gangrenous wrote: ↑July 1, 2018, 11:23 amYeah, don’t think it works like that when you have 3 uninjured halves...edwahu wrote:With Hingano out we should be eligible to bring in a replacement. I think the only restriction is he has to come from our system since it's post June 30. I'm assuming Mounties counts as our system.

True, forgot he got injured in a rep game.
Ha, what a farce when you can replace your 4th string half because he’s an international rep and you want to drop your 2nd stringer

This isnt a long term solution and its not ideal but I would rather Whitehead at 5/8th next week over Williams and Austin.

Whilst I agree, I think with no Rapana and Wighton the best move is him to centre to tighten up the 3/4 line.

Murchie on the edge could work. Personally, I think we need to play Williams. Williams may not be as big, fast or athletic as Austin but he is a better footballer and that's what we need in the defensive line.

Oh, right.
Well I guess I’d start Lui and bring Makatoa on to the bench.

HAS to be Williams over Austin. Austin should only ever wear green again if we have two more injuries to halves this year or he represents Ireland.
Get. Him. The. ****. Outta. Here.
Williams might have “missed tackles” leading to a try or two, but Atleast he doesn’t shoot out of the line or take less runners infront of the player with the ball.

With Hingano injured in a rep game can we promote O’Hagan to the top squad and give him a run?
It is a nothing game against a bottom rung team who is also depleted by injury in the forwards. Perfect game to debut him.
Whilst we are at it time to start giving Knight priority minutes over Paulo and Boyd and getting Murchie and Gurhler some experience.

We could but it's a bit early for him. He hasn't even played senior Mounties. We wouldn't want to Lachlan Croker him.RTW wrote: ↑July 2, 2018, 1:56 pm With Hingano injured in a rep game can we promote O’Hagan to the top squad and give him a run?

It's a shame Bambling left back to QLD, he would've been worth trying now.

Yeah agreed you don’t want to use him/burn him out but we are out of the hunt for the finals and playing a pretty ordinary team. He is no younger then Brodie Croft was when making his debut (Possibly a bad example as he has been dropped).edwahu wrote:We could but it's a bit early for him. He hasn't even played senior Mounties. Re: 2018 Rd 17 V Bulldogs: Teams and Previews
Poor reads are so much worse than a missed tackle. At least with a missed tackle you can slow them down enough that good cover defence can mitigate the damage. A poor read or poor decision is much harder for the cover defence to clean-up because the line break happens at speed.CJ42 wrote: ↑July 2, 2018, 12:17 pm HAS to be Williams over Austin. Re: 2018 Rd 17 V Bulldogs: Teams and Previews
Exactly right GEM, neither are good defensively but Atleast Williams is standing in the right place, sure he becomes a target but only to be run at, not a target hat creates a literal free passage with no contact to the try line. It’s like Austin was marking Moses and he was the Red Sea on Saturday night, and for most of this season.

Brad Fittler compares Canberra Raiders star Josh Hodgson to Cameron Smith
Rugby league great Brad Fittler has compared Canberra Raiders hooker Josh Hodgson to NRL superstar Cameron Smith, following his latest heroics on return from major knee surgery.
"He is just such quality. He’s got like a Cameron Smith aura on the field, total control of the ruck and he just gets everyone guessing," Fittler said. "Look at the hooker, he’s the first person to get the ball, so if everyone plays off him then it questions the defence every play and that’s why Cameron Smith is so good."
